Goh Ballet Academy

Probably great as a vocational school for the kids, but skip the evening adult classes and go to Harbour Dance for the live accompaniment, more selective levels, and better instruction.

Wow… I just came from here and it was just horrid and embarrassing. I went in because I want to start taking ballet as a hobby. I attended the «Adult Beginner 1» drop-​in class, after reading on the site that it accommodates people with no previous ballet experience:
«What is the difference between your Beginner 1 and Beginner 2 classes?
Our Beginner 1 classes are developed for those who have had little to no experience in ballet. This class is focused on introducing you to the different ballet terms and movements, while providing opportunity to promote flexibility and musicality.»
When I went in the room, I asked the instructor if I was in the right class, if it was Adult Beginner 1. She looked at me stone-​faced and said, «Well, it’s not BEGINNER beginner– we’ve been going on since September…» And I just stared at her blankly, because this was NOT what I was expecting. She assigned me a spot at the bar and started the class. I couldn’t follow any of it– no one with NO previous ballet experience could have– and I could just feel the dancers were staring at me like I was incompetent. It was so embarrassing and futile that I just left, only a few minutes into class.
What the site says about Beginner 1 drop-​in is greatly misleading. I would definitely not go back.

I go to class here. I have taken ballroom, Chinese, hip hop, jazz, lyrical, and ballet. I love all of the different kinds of dances. I just LOVE dancing becuase it is like heaven; like I landed where I should be. It’s like my place in life! Also, if I compare the Goh ballet to my previous dancing school, Goh ballet is so much better because I learn so much more. I realized I missed out in a lot of stuff in my previous dancing school.
This year, for festival, I got to do set solo! Set solo is when the teacheres pick a couple of dancers to represent the school at festival. Also, from all schools for set solo, we dance the same dance! I also got to do a jazz solo and a lyrical solo! I never have imagened to get to represent the Goh Ballet in my age group and have two more solos, plus a ballet group dance!!! I LOVE DANCING!!!
