Most bizarre experience EVER.
A couple weeks ago, my friends and started out the night here early. The barstaff was cute and friendly and we liked our drinks. It was dead inside, but they told us to come back later, assuring us it would pick up at night.
We came back. It was still relatively empty. Before we even ordered a drink, a woman on a small tricycle rolled on over to us. She wore a cat mask, fishnets with a thong, and had Raggedy Ann hair. She got off the bike and told my friend to get on. For some reason my friend complied, and this strange woman took her on a ride around the dance floor, running into some dancers. She returned my friend to us, and we had no clue what to do.
So we hurried out in terror. What was going on here?!
I have to assume that she was an entertainer hired by Ginger 62? But I will never really know. I don’t know why anybody would hire that for their business.
Either way it was an experience. I will always remember the crazy thong bike lady taking my friend on a joyride through the dancefloor.

This club is exactly what you want or everything you hate, depending on what you’re looking for. It attracts an older crowd (late 20s/​early 30s), so it’s a little more sophisticated and has fewer 19-​year-​olds embracing their legality. On the other hand, if you’re such a 19-year-old…you might want to look elsewhere. There are a bunch of cougars around, though, so if that’s your scene you’d enjoy it here.
I came here for a friend’s birthday, so we had a table with champagne service which was nice. Of course, since you’re in a club, the tables aren’t exactly conducive to conversation. When we first arrived, there was a live band playing. But once the DJ came on, the music was fun and danceable, and was mainly house and techno. Drinks go for standard prices, with Long Islands for $ 10 (served in a large mason jar; I enjoyed that touch). However, I didn’t find them to be particularly boozy. All in all, made for a decent night out.

the girls get free passes from promoters, often slip past the lines, but guys wait in line and pay full cover, getting frustrated and impatient.
What that means for the poor ladies, is big trouble– for these guys want to ‘get their moneys’ worth’
Make matters worse, meathead bartenders overserve– and its usually the angry men who do the most drinking!
good times? mebbe for the police who love for an excuse to crack skulls…
meh. no thanks.

The ambience of this place is very cool and quite unique to anywhere I’ve been before. I attended a work party here so the whole place was closed off just for us. I didn’t order off the menu but I had a lot of the appetizers and 90% of them weren’t very good at all. Everything was tasted like it was soaked in ginger. Perhaps I should have gotten that hint from the name but it seemed a little too overboard. If drinking is your thing the bar looked very extensive but I personally didn’t partake in that area so I can’t comment I that directly. A day later the food isn’t sitting very comfortably so I won’t be headed back.

This place is not what I wanted.
Cover has to be paid for nothing. Music sounded like the same all the time. The dance hall wasnt packed, kinda empty even though it was past midnight.
If you want to enjoy fancy environment, it could be good place to go and open up the bottle of champagnes. But i am not willing to go with my suggestion.
But bartenders seem to be nice! We got the nice services from them!
And there is a free photo machine inside and you can select an option to send the pictures you take on your email address, which is good, as long as you are not too drunk to type your email address.

Haha I’m embarrassed to admit this, but my girlfriend googled «Asian night club 2013 Vancouver» and Ginger was one that showed up. As we were walking through Granville, a random lady handed us comp entry cards and we remembered our friend’s google search results HAHA we headed over. Nice club… Probably the best décor and most well-​kept club that saw throughout Vancouver (which isn’t saying much, but still). Free photobooth was pretty cool. There’s a «VIP» area in the back… where we coincidentally ran into our Asian guy friends from SoCal. LOL. Overall an OK club… somewhat wanabe Vegas status, but can’t even compare so they shouldn’t try too hard.

I volunteered for a fundraiser at Ginger62 recently. I somehow lost my keys and a woman’s keys for whom I was house sitting. Barry and Jeff were so helpful and understanding. I do not frequent night clubs for a few reasons but one of the main ones is I don’t like the way people that work at nightclubs treat their guests. Barry and Jeff are gentleman of the truest sort. Thank you so much for all your help in that key escapade. I feel like any other place on Granville would have been super snotty to me. You two and your staff really made a very complicated and stressful situation much less so. Thanks again.

i’m usually not a fan of clubs on granivlle, but this one is simply the best. good house music all night long, the crowd is usually on the older side (late 20’s and up), and the photobooth they have set up in there is just so much fun!
i’ve never had a bad time here and if you appreciate good house music, then you’ll definitely appreciate this place.

For all the night club /​bar /​options on the Granville strip, this one is definitely one of the better venues. I have been here three times and on each occasion I have enjoyed myself and it exceeded my expectations. However, this south Granville club is not without its flaws.
Pros:
— Door staff are polite and the promoters are usually pretty good, especially early on in the night (come before 11pm before it gets super busy!) I came here on a Sat night with a birthday party group of about 12 people and although we were late for our guest list due to a delayed dinner. The promoter still honored our guestlist and we got in free no problem so big props
— Great ambiance, upscale bar, a bit of Yaletown feel
— Well dressed people for the most part, although I’ve heard on certain nights the douchebags come out in full force (I have yet to experience this)
— Slightly older, yuppier crowd, less 18 – 22 year old college kids probably due to $ 12-​$ 20 cover depending on the night
— Drinks are average price and par for the strip ($ 5 – 7 beers, $ 7 highballs, etc)
Cons:
— Not a huge fan of the music, lots of rave /​techno type stuff when I prefer more 90s hip hop /​RNB rap
— Dance floor is quite small! I like to salsa dance and this is definitely not the place to do so with the size and tunes they play
— Fri /​Sat night don’t expect to be able to sit down unless you get bottle service with groups of 4+ people
— The crowd can be pretty hit or miss. Some nights it’s full of well dressed, interesting people who are unpretentious and other nights it feels like Granville Shore Night

I was highly entertain with a male that was yelling at the bouncer and telling him to suck his dick. I was shocked that the bouncer had kept his cool and the guys girlfriend took him away but it was in interesting 20minutes before we went inside. As I’m from America the guy would of been either on his ass or arrested with a black eye. The layout of this place was great, I was help by the bartender and first place my CC worked. Price on drinks was ok. Music wasn’t to happy with but it was still a great time.

Ginger 62 was the second place to hit up for my roommate’s friend’s birthday.
Things I liked:
— the floor plan/​layout; the place looks absolutely amazing and while it was crowded, there was still space to move around and not feel claustrophobic
Things I didn’t like:
— the staff was incredibly rude. I understand that hospitality can be a particularly frustrating job but that doesn’t mean you need to shout at paying customers. Piss off.
— the crowd; maybe it was just the night I went but the people there were snobby and stand offish. There was also the occasional older loner who stood in the corner watching young couples gyrate to house music
If the staff’s attitude improved and there was some diversity in the music, I could see this place picking up. Maybe.

Came here last night, no line up. politely told the girl with the clip board that we were under guest list and stated our friends name. and i kid you not this is how the conversation went.
in the rudest, bitchiest tone of voice possible she says
” what list, what list did your friend sign up under, did she do so under birthday, did she do it online, i could have her name on my phone, it could be on my email. i have a million lists! your friends name is what? no i don’t have her on here“
there was no line up anyways so we said its okay we’ll just pay for our cover
than the crazy gal starts shouting at us
” you can go in. GO go right on a ahead, go in, I don’t care, you could be promoters you could be on the guest list, but go on ahead in if you want to pay cover, i don’t care WE MAKE MORE MONEY THAT WAY!!“
we were so choked we started backing away to leave and she shouts that she was just kidding, don’t take it seriously…
WHAT THE HELL JUST HAPPENED? we weren’t intoxicated obnoxious or rude, we literally just said Hi, we are under so n so’s guest list. and she started freaking the f out at us… I understand people have bad days at work sometime but that chick is just plain crazy.

one of Vancouver’s best clubs!!! Where else can you find ‘fantasy characters’, themes, photo booth, house music, and awesome bartenders all in the same place??? I love the décor around the place, how the place is laid out and everything! When you first walk in, you’ll feel like you’re in a lounge, but as you walk further in, you’ll begin to see a mingling area, dance floor, and a vip /​DJ area! I love the music, and as I get older, I find most other clubs to be too ‘young’ for me. Ginger has a good crowd, and perfect for me!
Don’t forget to take some funny photo booth pictures! If you don’t remember the night, at least you’ll have ‘proof’ of what happened the next day — haha!
I also love the Back Bar — bartenders back there are super friendly and will even take photos for you and your friends!

Ginger is one of the few clubs that I may go to on a random weekend night. The décor is rich and luxurious with a slightly ultra modern but bourdior-​esque vibe. Sometimes they have a burlesque dancer perched on the embellished swing or another will be enticingly show off her moves on the mini nook of a stage.
The crowd is great and is made up of non-​pretentious folks who love house music and dancing (and probably a bit of drinking, as well). The staff are the best. They make sure to keep the rowdies away, since there are tons of other places where those people in the «hot mess» category can congregate. The doormen, specially Z, are always respectful and professional; I have only seen them act like perfect gentlemen.
James is the friendliest and sincerest bartender. He always remembers what I like to drink, not because I drink a lot or because I go there tons but because he has an incredible memory.
So, while I don’t go clubbing a whole lot, anymore, Ginger continues to be one of only two places that are the exception.

Before we ever planned our club run to Vancity, Ginger 62 has always been on the map for their line up of supreme EDM talent in the area. On this particular weekend, we lucked out and caught the Ginger 62’s 10^th Anniversary night on a Saturday. The featured DJ was Norman Doray! We just had to do this experience the right way with bottle service in the VIP.
Unlike Vegas, in Vancity you can take your sweet time on most typical weekends if you have table reservations. We were having dinner till 9pm, and my buddies were panicking because we had to be at the club normally in Vegas. However in Vancity we had an extra 2 hours to kill so we manage to take a stroll down Granville street. This is the area which is considered the «strip» of the town where all the night life is. Following a little cardio of watching schwasted club goers on this street after dinner, we came up to the doors of Ginger and I gave them my name on the reservation.
Without wait, we all lined up and walked in. I managed to even sneak an extra person in on our table because they were super chill. No upping your min bullshit out here. Just get in and buy a bottle and have a great time! As I was walking in with my hostesses, I was offered a complimentary coat check where all I needed to do was tip. The night before at another club, I believe they charged for this service. Needless to say I gave them a sweet tip regardless.
Walking through the lounge area, there are tables setup with a couches and a side bar. The music is banging in this area, but its more of a walkway for people to meet and greet, rather then a rage dance floor. A fun experience here is the Ginger 62 photo booth! You can jump in and take some real time club pics and upload them to FB or Twitter right away and its completely free. I thought this idea was very neat.
Our table was setup behind the DJ booth. We had to walk pass the main dance floor and up some stairs. The DJ booth area is elevated, and behind the booth is about 6 – 8 tables setup. We quickly browsed through the menu, and without a question we wanted to ordered the Belvedere bottle and have it on full display. Once you place an order, the bottle is then emptied out into multiple double shot –shot glasses and place on your table. Then the empty bottle is placed on lamp above your table. Since you can’t have a bottle on your table, this is a good way for the VIP clientele to show off what they have ordered.
Once Norman got on the stage, and we were almost completely schwasted is when the fun began. We raged out behind the DJ booth and everyone working in there was all high five distance. I never had such a personal DJ to clientele experience in the states. The party is on and cracking till 3am, and when Norman closes his set, so does the club. From 2−3am is when the club starts to empty out. I thought this was kind of odd since nobody in the states leaves when a headlining DJ on, especially on this special occasion. Needless to say, we got extra room on the dance floor and were able to show off some shuffle skills.
Shuffling in Canadia was one of our goals, and we accomplished that with full force. With venues like Ginger, EDM in Vancity is definitely going to take off as other places uses this joint as a role model. I know this place is definitely going to be on my schedule on my next north of the border trip!

Hard to believe Ginger’s been around for 10 years already!
Ginger is a great little club. It’s definitely a more upscale venue, and the crowd that gets past the ropes is generally reflective of the image they’re trying to maintain. The décor exudes a boudoir/​burlesque vibe, there’s ample seating spread out through the club for sore dancing feet, and a good sized dance floor that’s almost always packed with beautiful people.
However, even Ginger has it’s off nights and there have been a few times when the place was overrun with Surrey bridge and tunnel crowds, wannabe gangsters, and Asian guidettes.
Fun times are to be had a Ginger, and I’ll definitely be back for more.

Ginger 62 has been somewhat hit and miss for me in regards to the music. However, I went last Saturday 13^th August with 2 friends and it was THE BEST music ever! I even carried on to the djs after party I loved it so much.
I love the fancy decore. I love the vip section behind the dj bouth. I love the size (not too small not too big) and all in all I love to dance at ginger.
Good times

Under-​served, bad music, and repugnant clientele.
A shame, because the décor is neat; swanky-​burlesque feel, complete with dancing girls on display, and lots of non-​reserved seating. We were entertaining a group of cousins from out of town, and it was easy to book a large group.

But, If you like upscale lounges with good music, and a dressier crowd, don’t waste your time.
Note to club-​goers: You can do better than blue jeans (especially ladies!!) and bad shoes. Tasteless.

What I hate about nightclubs (not only Ginger) is that you make the guest list… but still have to wait at least 30 minutes in line… only to find out that there is NO ONE inside… what is that? … and I never understood how Vancouver can charge such an expensive cover !!!
Anyways… I think that cash machines should dispense change, similar to the ones at Safeway… because the bartender at the bar definitely did not know how to count my change… and it was not rocket science. Three of us girls bought drinks and my girlfriend had put in a big enough tip for the three of us… I bought a beer and was going to tip originally, but the chick didn’t even give me back the correct change (DON’T SHORT CHANGE ME!). I was pretty ticked off. and she had walked off so quickly. but my girl stood up for me and chased her down and made her give me my money back. She looks at me, and squeels at the top of her voice, pretending to be apologetic.
Her colleague goes up to her and she’s pointing at us with her dirty looks… sorry lady but it’s your fault, don’t think I don’t know your scheme.
The music is actually okay and there is a live drummer which is super cool. but watch your money at the bar.
