I have been reborn! I’m sure that’s what most people say when they’re dunked in warm water, and clas in all white. My experience was a bit more subdued and did not involve a pastor. I went after a night of little sleep and much physical activity, and found myself here for a float with my partner in the middle of a Saturday afternoon. NOTE: We did not float together. One person per pod. The place was empty, and I liked the serenity. Each room consisted of a pod, a shower, towels, wax ear plugs and Q-tips. Each float is 90 minutes, and the pod can have colors or be pitch black. TIP: Make sure to put the ear plugs in, or else you’ll be cleaning salt out of your ears for three days. With the state I was in, it took no time at all to relax and fall into a deep sleep. Make sure to relax your neck and let yourself fully recline; you will not drown(unless you try, but then we have bigger problems to Unilocal!about). I woke up to soothing music playing through the pod, and the salts on the skin made me feel slippery and slimy… much like being born I can imagine. I wriggled about to open up the pod door and washed myself until I was no longer covered in salt water. I felt fully rested and ready to take on the evening and whatever it had in store for me. Highly recommended, but only go after strenuous exercise, being hungover, or have nothing on your mind. I would not advise going before work or an big event.

I went here for my first-ever(and soon after, second) float, and had such an incredible experience! After hearing about floating from so many friends, first in Toronto and now over her in Vancouver, I knew it wasn’t a question of IF but WHEN I would get into a tank and experience sensory deprivation myself. Float Yaletown is a very beautiful facility, with well thought out details. I am so grateful for all the natural products that are available for use(shampoo, conditioner, body lotion), as well as the fact that their towels don’t have that chemical smell/feel to them. I love it when businesses choose ethics over cost, and second my want to choose organic and eco-friendliness whenever possible!(The pods and rooms are really well set-up, and you can keep the lights on if being in the dark feels like too much for you. I loved the absolute darkness though, we barely get that in our current world anymore!) The staff here is so welcoming and friendly; I felt very well supported on my first visit, and got explained how everything worked very thoroughly. I really appreciated the comment made just before I entered the tank: ‘If you feel like sharing how your float has been, we’re here to talk. If you don’t, feel free to walk out. We won’t take any offence’.(I did end up chatting for quite a while, and got explained a lot more about the tanks and how the company has come to be, which was lovely!) It felt nice to be able to take as much time as needed/wanted, to get back to… earth? Ha. I don’t think I really did, after my first float, though. I felt like I was floating through life for the entire day; super ‘single-focused’ and zoned in, on one thing at a time. It was life turned into this massive mindfulness meditation, and it was beautiful to teach a restorative yoga class later that day and notice how present I could be with the students! My second float was a bit different than the first, naturally. I was really exhausted upon arrival, and all I wanted was to get right into the tank. The staff on duty let me right in and as I knew how everything worked, I could — after a shower — hop right in. It was nice not to have to make small talk at that point, and to have a bit more of a conversation after the float. This time I already knew what position would feel more comfortable to my body(I starfish, with my hands interlaced behind my neck). While I felt like I was floating on the ocean during my first visit, this second time I felt like I was just lounging on the couch — no movement whatsoever. When I finally snapped out of that, I felt something strange on my arm. and realized a crust of salt had formed there. Haha. I think I went really far away :) I highly recommend Float Yaletown to anyone who is curious to try floating, in a safe, ethical, and aesthetically pleasing environment. I have told many friends about the facility, and will continue to do so. It is beautiful to see how this business is so into co-creation; Vancouver is so awesome in that sense, everybody is very supportive of small businesses and building awesome experiences and offering high-quality services together. I can’t wait to be back here and bring my friends!
