Established in 2006.

Since opening in February 2006, Farzad’s quickly established itself as Yaletown’s neighbourhood barber shop. Described as classic and elegant without pretension, Farzad’s exudes a warm, friendly and always welcoming vibe. The shop has two full-​time barbers, Farzad and Noriko, and both are regularly booked up 3 — 4 days in advance so we do recommend calling ahead to book an appointment.

Farzad has worked as a barber for 30 years and his passion for barbering and zest for life are apparent from the very first time you meet him. Farzad learned the trade through years of keen observation, dedicated apprenticeship and hard work, all of which have contributed to the vision of his own barber shop in downtown Vancouver, open since 2006. Never content to sit back and rest on his success, Farzad has always considered himself a worker and a barber more than a business owner and in my opinion this makes him the best kind of business owner. Farzad never loses sight of where he came from, where he is going and, most importantly, where he is today.

I had to laugh at some of the reasons people wrote for giving one and two star ratings. I guess it just shows that no one can please all of the people all of the time… although Farzad comes close!
I tried Farzad a few years ago, after getting tired of spending a whole hour in a stylists chair every time I wanted a cut, and have been seeing him every 3 weeks ever since. Farzad gives a consistently great haircut, which is why you can’t expect to just walk in and wait for an empty chair. All his appointments are on the half hour, so if you don’t see a client in the shop, it’s because one just left and another is about to arrive. This goes on 6 days a week, from early morning till early evening.
Farzad is a no-​nonsense, real barber. Yep, he moves that chair around with purpose, and slaps that hot towel on your face without ceremony. If you expect to be pampered like you’re in some kind of spa, you’re in the wrong place. Talk sports, travel, motorbikes, cars and heaven forbid, politics. Either way, you’re in and out in a half hour with a professional haircut at a reasonable price. PS — Farzad also gives a GREAT shave, try one!

Highly recommend this place, getting an appointment isn’t as difficult as one may think. Norkio was the one who had cut my hair during my first visit and she is great!
Perfect cut, performed a really nice fade, and cleans up the neck with a straight blade, a small massage during washing of the hair and a hot towel to clean your face. This is all done in a pretty quick manner and for a very attractive price!

I don’t understand how this barber shop has such great ratings tbh. I felt as though I wasn’t being fully attended to. He kept getting distracted by his surroundings and when he engaged in conversation with me it was more like a q&a than a conversation. It was very awkward.
Also I felt kind of manhandled and like things were happening without warning. It just felt like a bumpy ride from start to finish.
I did, however, enjoy the hot shaving cream on my neck and the hot towel would have been nice if there was more of a warning. It kind of just felt like it was slapped onto my face.
He seems like a nice guy, don’t get me wrong. And the receptionist is incredibly nice. (I felt like she understood the haircut I was after more then he did.) Anyway, it seems like people really like this place, but I’m not really feeling it. Give it a shot or don’t. It’s up to you.
PS the lights are obnoxiously bright when you’re getting your hair washed
Edit: This is 12hours after getting my hair cut. I noticed that the long part (I have an undercut) of my hair looks really strange. Like, very square and unnatural. It doesn’t look blended at all. Very disappointed and putting my star rating down from 2 to 1.

Farzad is by far the best barber in Vancouver. When you go regularly to Farzad’s Barber Shop, you are not treated just as a client, but as part of the family. The customer service is excellent and Farzad meticulously practices his craft with an eye to detail. I was walking out of the shop the other day after paying for my cut and Farzad said «Sam, come back here!» He had noticed a little spot on my haircut that he didn’t like, so he put me back in the chair for a micro-​adjustment! He wouldn’t let me walk out of his shop without being proud of his work! I wish all businesses had such a commitment to quality customer service. And Farzad’s would not be Farzad’s without Shelley! I so appreciate her bright, friendly, presence and the texts she sends reminding me of my next appointment. I will never get my haircut anywhere else in Vancouver! I can’t recommend it highly enough!

I have taken my husband here twice for a full head straight razor shave. Farzad is awesome! He’s enthusiastic about his work, the atmosphere is great! (Very manly– motorcycle and Canucks jersey, bowler hats. Very classic!) Farzad knows his stuff and he’s very friendly. His wife is very sweet too. Prices are excellent for the superior service and high caliber of experience and knowledge. And he’s spot on for time. You will get a professional shave and not be disappointed!!!
Make sure you’re on time for your appointment– he runs a very busy shop and so you want to be fair to Farzad and everyone after you.

I have been going here for the the past 4 – 5 months. Always all excellent service from start to finish. After not shaving for a month I decided to treat myself. I was hoping to relax with a nice shave. I went to farzad and was told to come in a week because it was all full
Even though there was only one customer in the shop. I even asked shall I come in an hour and he said no come in 1 week .I think it is great that new places are opening up on mainland. As this guy may need some competition to keep his arrogance

Moved to the West End a month and a half ago and was looking for a new place to get my hair cut. Last week I read the feature on Farzad’s in VancityBuzz and figured I’d give it a shot. Couldn’t have been more impressed. Farzad was amazing: friendly, easy-​going, and an outstanding barber. Maybe it’s luck, maybe it’s skill, but with only a few questions my hair ended up being exactly the way I wanted it. Typically I’m used to easing into a relationship with a hairdresser, and even after multiple visits at past places (a barber in Marpole, among them) it was never guaranteed that it would be perfect. This cut was flawless, and it somehow passed in a blink of an eye while we discussed neighbourhood development and gentrification.
For $ 35, you’ll get a standard hair-​cut of your choice, a straight-​razor neck shave, a shampoo and wash, followed by a hot towel and a mini head massage. Pricey? A little, but that’s purely cultural. Growing up, I was used to visiting cheap, independent salons for years and getting $ 15 haircuts that were good because I had gone for so long and I knew what I liked. I spent much of this year backpacking around the world and if there’s one thing you notice about many European countries, it’s that hair cuts are serious business: all barbershops have the same services that Farzad has, for about the same price. And at $ 35, that’s just about right for an upper-​middle tier barbershop in Vancouver. As others have said, you could be paying almost double for a trendy barber, or triple at a salon for the same product with none of the service.
I might try MVP down the street for comparison, but I’ll be coming back here again. Thanks Farzad for a wonderful experience.

By far the best barbershop in town, there’s a reason why they always come number 1 on Unilocal.You get a haircut, get your sides trimmed, the go over it with a straight edge blade, wash and condition your hair, place a hot towel in your face and style it. Doesn’t matter who you go to, Farzad and Noriko both do an amazing job every time.

This review has been long overdue.
Farzad’s is one my favourite local business in all of Vancouver. It is an institution.
This is a place for men who take their hair seriously but prefer not to have to get their haircuts by someone that is more of a hipster than a barber or by anyone that insists on calling themselves a hair stylist.
The price is reasonable. My haircut is $ 35 without tip and I’m happy to pay it with a tip. It’s not the cheapest haircut in town. But in Vancouver, you can pay twice the price and get the same haircut as you would at Farzad’s. Plus, I doubt that you would be able to get a better haircut in Vancouver anyways, so for $ 35, its a steal.
They have two barbers, Farzad and Noriko and you can’t go wrong with either. I’ve been getting my haircut with Noriko for about 3 years now and every haircut is excellent. She is the model of efficiency and craftsmanship. My haircut never takes longer than 25 minutes and in that time I get a rinse, haircut, head message, and she styles my hair as well.
The décor is excellent and the service is friendly and welcoming. if you have an appointment, Shelley, the manager, will even text you a reminder!
If you want to get a haircut, book ahead of time, at least a week. They are great at what they do, so inevitably, they will be busy.
I’ve taken my best friend here for a shave for his birthday and he still talks about it two years after the fact.
I can’t say enough good things about this place, you will just have to go in and experience it yourself. You will not be disappointed!

I used to live upstairs in the same building as Farzad’s Barbershop, and can remember when he first moved into the neighborhood. With salons and barbers all within a stones throw, he seemed to be taking a reasonably large risk however when he opened his new shop up to the public, the dark wood trim, black and white tiles, and beautifully appointed shop was easily the new standard in the neighborhood for barbershops.
The presence of sweet motorbikes in the shop never hurt either. ;)
Farzad’s desire to deliver excellent and friendly service has never tarnished over the years and I have become a devoted customer.
You can’t go wrong visiting this shop for a haircut, trim, or shave.

Being new to Vancouver, I wanted to find a good nearby barber and I’ve read great things about Farzad’s Barber Shop here on Unilocal so I thought I should give it a try.
One day I popped into his shop and he said he was fully booked for the day. Fair enough, my mistake.
A few days later I tried calling him to reserve a spot, and he demanded that I give my credit card number over the phone.
I responded «I’m sorry but I’m not comfortable giving my credit card number over the phone.»
To which the person on the other line responded in a rude manor: «Well I’m not comfortable taking reservations without a credit card number.»
The rudeness left a bad taste in my mouth. Would have been a better experience if he told me in a polite manor.

Best modern or classic trim or shave in town. I moved to Vancouver several years ago and my search for the perfect barber ended when a friend recommended Farzad’s Barber Shop to me.
Right from the start, the Yaletown barber shop is very inviting, warm and friendly with the three staff there. Farzad has decades of men’s hair-​cutting experience, and has a talent that’s a lost art at many barber shops: shaving with a straight razor.
You’re guaranteed a world-​class haircut, straight razor shave around the neckline and a shampoo rinse and style to finish things off. All this done with quality equipment and salon-​grade shampoos.

First time there today and I must say I LOVE my hair! The Japanese girl, who’s name I forgot to ask cut my hair and I love it! $ 30 for a great clip/​cut/​wash/​style is quite a deal for a great cut.
