Not bad for its price. This is a place you’d hit up for quantity over quality. Quick service for a hole in the wall. Highly recommend you get platters for parties and if I’m not mistaken, you also get 10% off if you order 24 hours ahead.

I have to give credit to the Unilocal app, as there was no way I was going to find this place and be surprised. Looking for a place to have an affordable meal around this neighborhood that served Japanese food I had some places I knew from previous visits, but never ever thinking of this part of Burrard. Walking toward this location I was a little skeptical as there were a few restaurants here on Saturday afternoon that seemed to have closed for the day, or are just closed during the mid-shift and then it was there. The place wasn’t busy at all, maybe someone picking up takeout and a small table of two, but that was it. We sat down, the three of us, and wondered are we in the right place… well I can say after leaving here, we did come to the right place, thank you to all who reviewed. We sat in this small restaurant, that when you walk in seems more like a take-out sushi joint, and sat ourselves at one of the tables. The lady that was working here quickly provided us some menu’s, the normal flare of sashimi, maki, cones, combos, specialty rolls, appetizers, and bigger dishes like udon and soba noodles, quite the selection from this small little place. As the people running the joint were behind the front desk after leaving us alone to figure out what we wanted to order, I started hearing Mandarin… ok so this is a Chinese making sushi joint… more skeptical, then we decided to order a few things. From a few of their specialty rolls, one which was more on a take of a normal scallop roll with more stuff, to something that was more special than a regular BC roll, we even ordered the regular salon, tuna, cucumber maki combo, and then needed an order of yaki soba. To start with, the rolls that we had, each was done quite well, and none was ‘over-riced’ like one place that is up on Davie…(ahem). Each piece had great balance, from the protein fillings to the rice ratio, let alone how the rice was, from 3 people who were double guessing ourselves to ordering more food I really enjoyed all the flavors, especially ordering the regular chopped scallop roll after having the special one, and for a place that serves budget Japanese food you are getting good quality. Talking about the yaki-soba, it came out on a hot plate, steaming away with sizzle noise. It was pretty tasty, a tad on the sodium salty side, but it was a good balance of shrimp, onion, bean sprouts and cucumber, a good filler. After looking at everything we had to eat, we called the bill over, and it was very reasonable. For the amount we got, and the quality, I would definitely consider coming back here to eat, or even ordering takeout. You won’t be impressed at the place when you come in, but that maybe a good thing, as you will be impressed after you have eaten here.

Before the new management this was my & my boyfriends go-to sushi place, at least twice a week we would eat here. Last summer I ate here almost five times a week, the staff knew me very well and would let me into the building if I ever locked myself out, because we all knew each other. I ate here at least once a week for over two years, because it was in my building. Daikichi sushi used to be my everything, my ultimate bad day comfort food, my too busy to cook food. I gave this new place three chances. Now they’re increased their prices and drecreased their portion sizes, for a product that is only marginally fresher. They’ve changed their miso soup recipe which isn’t much better, taken away the nigiri sushi in the bento box and replaced it with the worst gyoza I’ve ever eaten, rubbery and bland. They now use the same seasoned sushi rice under the chicken teriyaki. It used to come with a steamed broccoli and carrot garnish that it now does not. Their vegetable yakisoba has almost no vegetables in it. They’ve taken away their cheap combos too. Sometimes there’s a guy there who speaks fluent english and knows the new menu very well, but theres also a new girl he’s training who is actually really bad. Her english isn’t good enough for me to say the menu items, and she doesn’t seem to know english numbers enough to use that system over the phone. She forgot one roll entirely last time. I won’t say I’ll never eat here again, because the convenience still can’t be beat, but now it’s well worth it to walk to another sushi place.

Came here on a Friday night on a whim as I used to live in the area. Apparently it’s under new management. It’s mainly a takeout joint but we ate in. Table seating for about 10 and seating along the window for about 4 and along the sushi bar(cannot see the chef) for another 4. Ordered an assortment of things from rolls to ramen to «cooked» dishes. The sushi is actually pretty good. We had some of the fancy rolls and they were good. Somehow there’s a uniqueness to the flavors. Not your typical Korean-sushi drizzled in sauce. The spicy agedashi tofu and the chicken karaage were really good. The prices are actually really good and the staff were very friendly. Not much else to say I suppose. Giving it a 5 based on the fact that in the area, for the price(and given it’s neighborhood focus) it’s one of the better sushi places. I do a lot of ordering in for my office and I’m definitely going to try a larger order from here in the near future.

It looks like the restaurant has changed owners, did some minor renovations, and changed their menu. I recently ordered take out here without knowing so ordered items from the old menu. I ordered a salmon sashimi, a toro sashimi and a toro combo to share with my friend. The girl on the phone asked when I would pick up my order and I replied, «in 20 minutes». I arrive about 30 minutes later and the girl at the cashier tells me that my order was not ready. I noticed the small changes in the restaurant and didn’t recognize any of the staff members that used to work here.(The restaurant is really small, fits about 10 people and always had about 3 staff who appeared to be family members so it was not hard to remember them.) A guy approaches the cashier area I was in and says to me «you know we have a new menu right?» Ummm…No, I don’t. Because when I called in my order, no one told me this was the case. This could have been mentioned over the phone when I placed my order! The prices were different, portions were different and my combo didn’t exist on the new menu. I appreciate that they made the combo for me any way. Another 10 minutes and my order is finally ready. My friend and I headed back to my place and when we opened the takeout bag, there was only one pair of chopsticks and no napkins. Fine, I had extra chopsticks at home and napkins of course, but this shouldn’t be something missed. The salmon sashimi was good, fresh but smaller portion than it was before and the same price. The toro sashimi was a bit of a miss. The pieces were tiny and the texture wasn’t quite right. The toro comob comes with four pieces of toro sushi and a BC Roll. The rice to fish ratio for the sushi is not right. There’s a giant piece of rice and not much toro at all. As for the BC Roll, the sauce it usually comes with lacked any flavor at all. The roll was not assembled well at all neither and every piece fell apart when you picked it up with chopsticks. It saddens me that this place has changed owners and the quality and customer service has gone down. I really enjoyed getting the occasional takeout from Daikichi, but now, I’m not sure I want to come back. Very disappointing.

Amazing and cheap! The chef is so good with my seafood allergy and washes everything before making my veggie sushi! Love love love!!!

Good sushi for an absolutely great price. You can get 3 sushi rolls and a miso soup for 5 bucks. Not a very special place though. If you’re looking for something fancier, you should go to Japanese run Sushi Coen next door.

I was impressed with the freshness and good prices of the sushi at this place. It’s a small restaurant that has a bar and 3 tables. I recommend taking your sushi to go and eating it at your hotel is you’re staying close by.

A classic Vancouver«cheap sushi» experience. Simple menu, great deals, fast service. I get take away from here multiple times per week and have a hard time going anywhere else. The ambiance for a sit down meal isn’t exactly inspiring, but if you can live with that, you’ll be happy.

The boyfriend and I come here all the time, the sushi is always fresh and delicious but I must say I’m getting awfully tired of waiting a minimum of 30 minutes to as much of an HOUR for our order. There’s is only one chef, ever, and being in the service industry myself I can understand to a certain point but this is getting excessive. Hire more people, prioritize orders that are sit-in or you’re going to lose our service.

Well I am sad to have to say this place was a let down. I was going to go to Shi Zen Ya but a friend said he preferred this place. It’s a small cute sushi bar ran by Chinese owners which is neither here nor there. As I sat down I asked the waitress/owner if they had brown rice. She said it was a dollar extra. When I asked if I could get the beef teriyaki with no sauce since I have a gluten allergy she said yes but the brown rice would be an extra $ 3 for the bowl. This was fine with me. I then told her I was waiting for 2 friends. The restaurant was empty but she kept harassing me asking where they were. In her defense the restaurant only has a bar and 3 tables but I waited less than 10mins for them. After we ordered and the food came my beef teriyaki had sauce all over it. When I told the waitress she returned it only to bring me another bowl with sauce on the rice and not the beef. I decided to just eat the beef even though I paid an extra $ 3 for brown rice covered in sauce I asked her not to put on. The beef was so salty I immediately had a stomach ache. Needless to say I didn’t eat the rest of the food and went home to a terrible upset stomach and diarrhea. I gave this place 2-stars because maybe the sushi is good… maybe. And I feel bad giving any restaurant 1-star(which in my experience it deserved).

1. Edamame — Good. Not soggy and a good amount 2. Agedashi Tofu — Sauce base was too sweet. The tofu part was good. 3. Daikichi Roll — avocado and tempura yam. This was good, but don’t just order this. You’ll get sick of its consistency and sweetness. Overall, we ordered 2 appetizers and 3 rolls — total was around $ 25. Awesome prices! Service was minimal, but the location is small so you don’t need that much. Go around 4:30 for quick seating.

Convenient and easy, it’s become our local sushi joint. Haven’t been disappointed with it so far, aside from the California rolls. It’s just cut imitation crab, other places at least shred it but here it’s just a whole stick cut into maki rolls. The filling for the spicy rolls are very generous and it’s hard to pass up the speciality rolls, Maple and Canucks in particular. Plenty of cheap and cheerful options that are sure to have you stuffed for under $ 7! Surprisingly the yam tempura rolls are delicious as they’re made fresh to order. Main draw back is a pick up order takes over 30mins to be ready. Very basic interior, but I come here for the food and for what it is, it’s pretty darn good.

Compared to the other sushi joints in Vancouver, this is really not worth your time. I’d hate to stereotype a Chinese-run sushi place, but it takes respect and attention to detail to make good sushi, and I haven’t found one in Vancouver that actually gives a crap about making decent sushi — it’s usually more about price and amount of food. I ordered a spicy sushi combo at $ 10. Rice — overcooked, very vinegary. Tuna — tastes quite frozen, with a colour closer to dark purple than pink. Scallops weren’t fresh either. Brown rice at $ 1 per roll is kind of a ridiculous price point when you consider that most rolls are $ 3 – 4.

I live in Calgary and as a result I don’t have high standards when it comes to sushi but man… This was the best sushi I’ve had in quite a while. Everything was delicious from the miso soup to the fried yam and the lovely fish. Right textures and flavours all around. I just can’t believe how cheap it is. You can easily eat a whole meal for less than 7 bucks here.

This is a tiny sushi restaurant that was pretty good! They have a lot of combos which get you a lot of sushi for low $$. I got the unagi roll, smoked salmon roll and dynamite roll. All was amazing and the yam the in the dynamite was yummy. If you don’t like fried food though I would avoid rolls with tempura. I also got miso soup, which was delish. This place seemed like the place where locals get sushi so it was really good. Definitely recommend.

My friend and I were downtown and wanted to check out a new place instead of going to the same old restaurants. We did a quick google search and decided upon Daikichi sushi. It’s a 15-ish minute walk from Burrard and Robson. We had the vegetable udon and a few rolls, and it was pretty good! It’s a very small store, but it was quite busy. The sushi was pretty fresh in our opinion and we were pleasantly pleased. I recumbent it if you want a comfy meal with a friend.

Our first time to come here. Despite waiting for awhile(25 minutes) for appetizers prawn tempura ready to served. Turn out it was the best tempura we had in a while. We ordered spicy combo, tuna tataki, sunomono(prawn and crab), plus sashimi combo. Very small restaurant. Was pretty busy but the food here is worth the wait. Food quality is certainly excellent. The fish is fresh and the rolls are filling with very good amount of protein and LESS rice which is even better. Again, we’ll come back and one of the best Sushi spot we have ever been to in Downtown for easy and quick dinner.

Daikichi Sushi is a very small family run Japanese restaurant. I think the restaurant may be able to seat like 12 customers. I have to admit my friend and I came here for lunch on Sunday and we ordered a bunch of rolls and I don’t even know what we ordered! All I can say is the rolls were really good! We paid $ 30 and were stuffed full! It’s a hike for me, but I would definitely come back for a sushi feast!
