Pretty good for quick meals or takeout. The specialty roll combos are the best value. Sashimi portions are small. I was remarking the other day how sushi franchising is a good opportunity, and I think the roll factory model could be duplicated with success. Not for sushi snobs, but quick and satisfying

Since I have a love for fancy sushi rolls, I stopped by here the other night after walking past the sign on Davie. The rolls are decently priced, similar to Kadoya’s, but the rolls just don’t compare. Despite the creativity in them, there’s just too much rice to other stuff. We ordered 3 rolls between the two of us: the maple(spicy tuny with spicy salmon on top), the scallop magma(spicy tuna with chopped scallops and black sesame sauce), and the rainbow roll(real crab meat cali roll with assorted sashimi and mango on top). The scallop magma was my favourite simply because I liked the spiciness of the tuna with the sweetness of the sesame sauce. Otherwise, the rolls are kind of simple and not very exciting. I hope they’ll have a few more options to their menu soon, I probably should’ve tried some of their plain rolls(which are okay priced at $ 4 to $ 5 for things like a cali roll or a dynamite roll).

Ordered some take out today, which was a second chance for The Roll Factory after a disappointing first experience; unfortunately it wasn’t better the second time. I had a tuna roll and spicy salmon roll and they were both too ricey, with said rice very stale in taste and texture. Fillings were not tasty(although was not unfresh).

I’ve come here for lunch to pick-up or to-go at least 4 times now and I’m never disappointed. Yes, their rolls are pricey if you don’t a combo, but the quality is definitely better than a lot of the cheap-sushi joints. I always get a combo now and with the miso soup and side sunomono, I’m always left feeling full. The miso soup is tasty and their sunomono noodles are wrapped up in 4 separate bite-sized bundles instead of in the usual way in one soggy mess.

Dropped by the brand spanking new Roll Factory to make use of their opening special coupon! The Roll Factory is owned by the same folks as Shota Sushi and Grill in Kerrisdale(though I’ve not yet been — now I want to try it!). What I ordered was a Canucks Roll(yam tempura, cucumber and avocado topped with spicy white tuna & bonito) combo, which included miso(again with the spoon — seriously!) and sunomono salad. I got a free California roll with the deal. I took the whole batch home, and boy was it good! The rolls were incredibly generous size-wise, the salad was awesome, and the miso soup(which I slurped from the bowl) was just right. The only thing that might keep me from becoming a regular is the cost. Though considering the quality of the product, and how nearby it is, I will definitely visit again!
