We sell a variety of vintage, up to date fashion, brand names, locally designed clothing, accessories, new items like t shirts, hats from Toronto, and new sunglasses. Our main focus is quality, we only sell items that are up to date fashion and in perfect condition. C’est La Vie has been a favourite of local Vancouver fashionistas for over a decade.

Meet the Business Owner

Faustine F.

Business Owner

Owner Faustine Faure inherited her love for fashion and vintage with her mom, fashion designer in Paris, they would go to flea markets to find ideas for new collections, and the runways to keep updated. Faustine continued to work in the Vintage and fashion world in Paris throughout her life and acquired her knowledge for fashion label and quality vintage, eventually opening her own store in 2002. To keep up with demand and need to grow, she is constantly researching emerging trends and travels to Berlin, London, Paris, and Barcelona. She enjoys helping people find their personal style and says the focus of her store is to «let people feel free to look, try on and leave the store with a few unique great quality pieces at an affordable price that will last which makes her happy!»

I came here every other week, however, the reason why it has never been reviewed until now is ’cause I haven’t actually bought anything for the following reason. 1. Their quality is really hit and miss and they will almost take anything. 2. Their prices are hit and miss. I fell in love with a neon dress that I was thinking of wearing to Coachella, however, went a few doors down and got a better fitting dress. This place is just doors down from the record store that I hang out at, therefore, it is just one of the stops along the way. I actually tried to take some stuff down at one point, designer barely used things and the lady was hot and cold, didn’t have much people skills. Another reason why I never reviewed this store is the lady is close friends with one of my bosses, therefore, was a little afraid to at first.

C’est La Vie is a great Vintage Shop to go. All the pieces I got there are all really unique looking and in a good shape. Stop by when your on Main street and you might fall in love with one ore the other piece.

I found C’est La Vie to be very empty and cold. Not the most welcoming place and it doesn’t have a lot of treasure to discover. It was ok, but it wouldn’t be a place I would eagerly come back to.
Might be good to keep in mind I’ve only been in there once; maybe it was just a slow afternoon and everyone was just a little bit grumpy that one day.

They often have nice looking things, if you’re buying. A little expensive, perhaps, but stylish. The staff always looks good, too.
However, I agree with all the users who recommend against consigning here. The shop never called me as promised, explicitly told me not to stop in the shop to follow up, and after several tries only answered the phone when it was too late: my clothes had already been donated to charity (!). The owner was a bit rude about the whole thing, too. I told her I wished she would be a little more apologetic about it, but she never changed her defensive tone.
Tip: If you do choose to try to consign here, note the limited hours of business and keep calling and calling on that 6th day after drop off or your stuff will be toast, too.
I won’t be coming here again either to consign or to shop.

There is some really great finds in here for decent prices, but it’s sort of hit and miss in my opinion.
However, what turns me off of going here is the owner. There seems to be an air about her. — She doesn’t come across as friendly. I walked in and she didn’t even acknowledge me or look in my direction. However, when a regular customer (?) came in after me, she devoted all of her time to her and totally ignored me. If she wasn’t with that customer, she would be on the phone or eating. From reading the other reviews about the owner, I now see what users mean. I also don’t find her staff overly helpful either.

This store is part of the reason I got into thrifting and vintage shopping.
Though the owner doesn’t give award winning customer service off the top, she does warm up and become such a treat to interact with.
I love her keen eye for bohemian flare. The items she has in store are quite stylish and can spice up any outfit. I also like how the consignment split is 50⁄50 instead of 40⁄60 for most other places.
I have never had a problem with the turn around when I drop off items for consignment. I will admit that they are very strict on making sure people can provide their consignment number. So a word of advice for C’est La Vie is perhaps updating your database so you can also look people up by name?
Other wise, I love this store, I have found many pieces of treasure their and started my unhealth obsession of cowboy boots.

‘ve been a consignor and shopping at C’est la Vie for many years. This is one of the few stores in Vancouver that offers decent not inflated prices on used and vintage clothing, Faustine has a well curated selection none of the junk you see at other places and great taste. I love popping by for chat with Faustine and we commiserate about the lack of well dressed people in the city who care how they look. Hard to find good unique items in a city where yoga pants rule! C’est la vie is a place you can find something great!

The owner is extreamely rude — I told my friend and she said ‘oh well, she’s french’. That is not an excuse for rudeness. I would much rather give my buisness to the other great shops in the area.
Also, do not consign here, I tried it… it took the owner a couple weeks to sort through my stuff… I only knew she was done looking at it when I got a call saying if I didn’t pick it up she was going to throw it out! She ended up taking a couple things and when I went to get my money, there was $ 12 — so it was basically a waste of time… once again I would rather consign somewhere else that is friendly and does the sorting on the spot– like Front & Co. at 21st/​main.

This is another place I’ve passed on the bus countless times, and finally got in there this weekend. It was quite a different vibe from Bohemia Gallery next door, but I really enjoyed it. More mainstream types of clothing, decent prices, and lovely musical ambiance. I scored a darling poodle-​print silk scarf for $ 5 (I heart dogs), and will definitely return when I have time to look around in a more leisurely way. I noticed a men’s section here as well, and lots of boots.

I am so remiss, I can’t believe I haven’t posted a review for this place, yet!
I’ve been coming to C’est La Vie for years (maybe 6 years, now?). Main Street is one of my favourite shopping spots and this pretty little gem is always on my list of places to visit. I would say C’est La Vie specializes in vintage wear with a chic bohemian vibe, which is very much the style of the owner.
Just like any shopping in any consignment store, you have to have a keen eye and be willing to dig a bit deeper — it’s part of the fun. But there are many a lovely treasures. Most of my favourite vintage dresses are from C’est La Vie and I enjoy bumping into Faustine because we chat about music, fashion, scooters and hair. As a consignor, she always remembers my consignment number, and will make sure to keep my stuff on the shop floor a bit longer to give it another chance before returning it to me. It doesn’t hurt that I always have money waiting for me and I get a 10% discount for being a consignor.
I think that one of the things that the shop owner is happy to share with you is her knowledge of vintage wares and if you’re looking for something special, don’t be afraid to ask her, she will keep you in mind and call you when it comes in.
And if you haven’t found anything, just keep browsing — her music selection is always on point.

I brought clothes here a year ago and I just phoned and had some of the most unprofessional phone service ever. I could not remember my consignment number and she made me feel very uncomfortable and she ended our conversation VERY quickly. I have therefore lost out on any funds from the sale of my clothing. I am not impressed.

Although I am a bit biased when writing this review (I’m a loyal «Front & Co» consignor/​customer), I’ve got to agree with some of the other Unilocalers on here. The owner of this establishment has brought a wee bit too much of that French snottiness with her. I don’t know WHAT her deal is but every time I’ve spoken to her (either over the phone or in person) she’s abrupt, rude and never seems to be very interested in establishing good rapport with her customers.
It took a really long time to sell any of my items and I only suggest this store if you’ve exhausted other consignment shops first. The store is cute, has some decent vintage pieces and I think gets decent foot traffic for its location — but not as much as bigger places like front & co up the street.

I unfortunately had an awful experience at this shop. I think I may be spoiled by all the fabulous customer service I typically receive in Canada, as I was SHOCKED by the rude, snooty, unhelpful, and unprofessional staff/​owner at this store. Their inadequate excuse for their behavior was saying that the store is «overwhelmed right now» — whatever that means! There are SO many better places to shop and consign clothing in Vancouver — do not waste your time and money here… or consign your clothes for that matter!

This place is pretty small, not just size but selection. They have some hip stuff but mostly its modern clothing a few years out of date. Kind of boring when you consider all the different options to thrift on main st. When I went in I wasn’t greeted, and never have been there. The woman is always on the phone, god forbid I wanna try something on. The women who shop there are all about size 0 — 2 so no luck finding jeans that fit me. The prices are decent for what they are selling with a few exceptions to this rule. I go elsewhere for great finds.

For a self-​professed designer jeans whore, this is the best consignement shop I have been to. My wife got a pair of 7s for $ 60 and there was a fairly good selection of guys’ jeans. This is definitely trendy/​upscale consignment with non-​pushy sales people and a zany style. Highly recommended (based on my single visit)!

Main Street is renown for its funky second-​hand stores and C’est La Vie is at the top of my list when it comes to consignment shopping. C’est La Vie presents very well and when you walk in you know there’s a hidden gem just waiting for you to find. I’ve found many such jewels in this consumer wardrobe. Fluffy pullovers, velvet jackets, tweed pants, cute tops, even bags, hats, and shoes are up for grabs. As like all second-​hand clothing stores you have to dig deep to find something you like but at C’est La Vie it’s definitely worth the forage.
Unfortunately, I have to warn you that the owner (a French lady) comes across very rude. She’s so nasty that it’s sometimes intimidating walking into the shop. This is a shame really, as the pieces inside C’est La Vie can be really great.

Really gorgeous and fashionable selection of clothing. They know great style here, no question about that. Which may be why they are so picky about buying your clothes (and by yours, I mean mine.) We mustn’t forget that it’s nothing personal though, right? I still give them four stars as a buyer. It would probably be five, but the staff aren’t very warm at all (and this was before they rejected my clothes, for the record.) Still, a little Main St gem that is by all means worth checking out!
