Cadeaux Bakery

I called them not too long before closing really wanting a cake from here for my cousin’s birthday the next day. They usually require a 48 hour’s notice but took my order anyway for noon pick up the next day. I was wow’d by their customer service. The person who took my order was very courteous even with the short notice and the cake I received was beautiful. Whoever made it has very generous hands. They couldn’t even close the box properly (I’m not complaining). The taste was just what I love, buttercream frosting, not sweet, sponge cake, little sweet. Frosting could be a little bit lighter, but I have found my new go to bakery. My experience with them was nothing but full of joy from the phone call to the drive home with their box sitting next to me.

I ordered the London Fog cake for an event. The bakery was able to accommodate my order within 24hours which was such a relief. I found the location easily with plenty of parking on both sides of the street. The cake presented beautifully! Decorated very classically.
The icing was not too sweet at all. The sponge was perfectly bouncy and Moist. Everyone throughly enjoyed. This is my go-​to place for cakes.

My buddy wanted to try this place out because of a recommendation. At first glance, the place looks trendy and modern. However, that didn’t help my disappointment. There was a very limited selection of pastries and desserts. The coffee menu is basic and I was disappointed that they ‘ran out’ of decaf that day… it was 230pm. It almost seems like their main business is takeaway orders for whole cakes and the coffee shop was an afterthought. The cakes might be really good, but I don’t know. I had a mousse tart, and it was just average. As a coffee and dessert shop, I give it 2 stars.

A friend suggested that I try Cadeaux (French for gifts) Bakery… On Thursday my friend and I made a trip to Costco in Burnaby. It must be the early Christmas rush because I swear we drove around the parking lot for 10 minutes without finding a parking spot. Unable to find a parking spot we left vowing to come back Monday. After leaving Costco I suggested that we try out Cadeaux Bakery.
I betcha the rent at Cadeaux is pretty cheap! Though not really in, but Cadeaux is around the boarder of the seedy side of town. Appearance wise I would consider this shop to be «cute». They do serve coffee and there are about 4 small tables to eat in, but I think this shop relies on people coming in, ordering, and taking out.
I ordered a London Fog cake ($ 5.99). I found it a bit pricy, but the piece of cake was very large. I’m sure 2 people could share it comfortably. Cadeaux has about 4 people working in the back… baking away… I thought it’s kind of cool that the store is so open and we can look right into the «kitchen» and see them busily baking a way. My friend ordered a chocolate tart. He said it was ok… Nothing too special… I really liked my London Fog cake! I had a coffee so the overabundance of sweet was tapered by the bitterness of my coffee. A good balance.
One observation I did make is that there is not a wide selection of baked goods. I think they need to increase their menu if they want to increase their customer base.
Overall, I think this Cadeaux Bakery. It offered customer’s an intimate coffee/​dessert spot.

I really struggled writing this review. I feel as though maybe I’m being too judgie… but here goes.
The location is a little out of the way but very cute and clean. It’s nice to watch the bakers kneading dough and icing cakes.
Selection: the selection is a little disappointing for a bakery. They had all the same croissants (chocolate, almond, ham & cheese), three varieties of cake, cheesecake and a few others.
I got two slices of cake: Earl Grey and a Chocolate Ganache. They were just okay. The earl grey lacked flavour and was pretty much a well decorated white cake.
The salted caramel brownie I found to be too wet? The flavour was beautiful but the texture was a bit off.
I’m glad that I made the trek to try this bakery. I’m positive that I will not return for a second go. It’s too far out of the way for average pastries and cakes. For now, I’ll stick with pure bread.

Area is a little obscure but pretty close to main street station.
I had the london fog cake and the almond croissant.
The almond croissant is really good, it’s not super special or anything but I was pleasnantly surprised,
As for the london fog cake, it was really good except I didn’t really taste too much of the london fog. It took me a few bites before I even got the first hint of london fog. Would have liked it better if there was more.
I will probably be back too try out the london fog again. The other pastries looked really good too!

I always get the ham and cheese croissant and now I refuse to eat any other croissant ANYWHERE ELSE! They are the best. THE. END. The almond croissant and chocolant coissant also do not disappoint. Plus they offer free lavender syrup to your latte if you like. Mmmmmmmm

A chic working pastry shop on the gritty edge of Gastown. A few places to sit inside in close proximity to the open kitchen where several pastry chefs quietly scurry around making delicious and intricate treats… Of course it’s a challenge to pick only one or two treats, but they’re all amazingly delicious so you can’t really go wrong…

Very cute bakery. I stopped by hoping to get a slice of the London Fog cake and they were sold out. I had the caramel brownie instead. It was delicious! I loved the caramel sauce especially.

I really hate leaving bad reviews, especially when the place is so adorable. I am a baker and my husband loves London Fog tea, so I had the idea of making a London Fog cake. When I searched for it, I saw it had been done and this bakery makes it. We stopped by and got a slice, along with a lemon tart and some sugar plums. The cake wasn’t bad at all, but I didn’t taste Earl Grey at all, nor would I want my own version of the cake to taste like this one. The tart, on the other hand, was inedible. It tastes like metallic eggs, a sign of bad technique. The lemon flavor was good, but completely overshadowed by the metallic taste. The sugar plums, too spicy for my taste.

This place has been on my bucket list for a while, however, for some reason it got forgotten along the way. I was recently reminded when I read Kenneth’s recent review to put this place back on my visible bucket list.
The minute you walk inside it is aesthetically pleasing and pleasant like a euro bakery. A fair cry in atmosphere and décor from the area that it is situated in.
The lady at the til was very sweet. I left without my umbrella and she flagged me down the street which was appreciated.
Here is the problem = way too over priced. $ 6 – 7 for meringue? Everything was slightly over priced with average taste which is why I can’t make this my go-​to spot as I was badly wanting it to be.

Really cool café/​bakery. I came for first time and love it. Had a chocolate croissant abs espresso and both top notch. I love the décor and style of the place. I will be back.

Just walked by and stopped in for a snack. An oatmeal cookie and a ham and cheese croissant. The baked goods were good. The location doesn’t suit the Powell Street hood but if you are looking to rest at a pretty spot then this is it.

Cadeaux Bakery made our wedding cake and man, was it good! It looked absolutely gorgeous and tasted delicious. If you are considering doing a cake tasting, do it! It was the funnest experience and if you’re lucky, you will have some leftover which you can take home and have little cake sandwiches. Note: *sugar high*
We had a lot of cake leftover (lucky us) and we sometimes thaw out a piece to enjoy. It still tastes amazing.

I feel like my review isn’t going to be very fair since I only tried their ham & cheese croissant but I noticed that other Unilocalers agreed that their croissants are just okay so… here’s my review!
It actually took me a while to find this bakery because the google maps location on my phone is a bit off so I wandered around a bit until I finally found it on the way back to my office. (I had already given up trying to find it)
I found the bakery very interesting, as the kitchen was completely open and the pastry chefs were all dressed very casually and chatting away. The atmosphere was very relaxed and I was ready to try some pastries!
At first, I planned on getting two, but after finding out how gigantic the ham & cheese croissant was, I decided on just having that for lunch. This pastry was massive! It actually took me a while to finish but in the end, I felt that the croissant was just a bit better than a grocery store-​bought pastry and was not anything special.
I feel like I really have to come back someday to try their desserts because it seems like they’re more well known for their sweet items!

This is one of the top bakeries I’ve ever found. Ever. Including in Paris. I was surprised. I was delighted. I was sated. I am in love with Cadeaux. My goal is to breakfast here every day. You can smell the browning butter from outside the building. There is a puff pastry with raspberry and light custard tart that is to die from, but don’t, because the quiche is worth returning for, and that cake, oh, that cake. Have a cappuccino and pastry and then eat salads the rest of the day.

I love obscure cafes. I would’ve never found this place if it weren’t for my foodie friend Andrea P. I instantly loved this spot with it’s whitewashed walls and furniture, shabby chic décor, mirrored menu and beautifully decorated cakes and goodies. I especially enjoyed the open kitchen, where you could watch the chefs create their edible masterpieces.
Of course I had to try the London Fog Layer Cake. I’m not usually one to eat a lot of icing but if you can, best advice for this cake — GET THE END PIECE! One bite of this cake and you’ll understand why. I took my first bite and I was taken to a foggy dreaminess of Earl Grey and cake in my mouth. A lot of the earl grey flavour came from the icing, hence… GET THE END PIECE! But if you aren’t that lucky ducky, the cake is still amazing — especially if you love london fog as much as me! The cake wasn’t as moist as I liked but the icing added the moistness it needed. This cake was a perfect balance of lightness yet enough richness to satisfy your taste-​buds.
Another slice of yumminess I tried was the Chocolate Hazelnut Cake (there was a fancier name for it but I forgot in the midst of my eating). I love moist, rich chocolate cakes and this hit all the spots! The hint of hazelnut was a nice touch as well. It was definitely the yang to the yin of the london fog cake.
Such harmonic deliciousness. Find me here again in my London Fog.

A beautiful little spot tucked away at the edges of «respectable» Gastown, Cadeaux is mostly a working kitchen and a counter featuring the daily spread, but there are a few places to sit down, and if you can manage to snag one it’s a great place to sit and have a leisurely coffee or tea and chat with a friend.
The London Fog cake is hands down my favourite item here. A vanilla layered cake, the hint of bergamot is truly evocative of a warm tea latte, and the whipped frosting is not too heavy — it’s like the foam on top of that latte. It’s still a super-​rich, decadent treat, but you won’t feel heavy and weighed down after eating it — just totally, completely satisfied.
On our visit today my fella had the Bacon Swirl — a cinnamon twist featuring bacon. Now THAT was rich — and S. remarked that he couldn’t actually taste the bacon, as opposed to say, the Maple Bacon Fritter at 49^th Parallel/Lucky’s Donuts. It was definitely there, but the buttery pastry and the cinnamon really overpowered any accent the bacon could have provided.
The only reason this place doesn’t get a 5 stars from me is the lack of sit-​down seating, the limited range of take-​home treats, and the fact that the coffee is not as great as it could/​should be to accompany such sweet treats. But the baking itself is divine, and the staff is lovely.
