I am giving this place 2 stars only because of the location the look appeal and the design, however the bake goods were very sub par. We order the breakfast croissant. This sandwich was tasteless and over heated to the point that the croissant looked was flat as a wafer. We also ordered a Cornish pastry, this item had also no favor and there was no Meat present, only onions and excessive amounts of roux. The pastries were hard, cold and dried. The coffee was also no good but this was no longer a surprise. Do yourself a favor and avoid this place.

I really like this place! Sometimes I wake up in the morning and all I can think is: I need a Montréal Sandwich!!! Well, lucky me that I live just 10 min away!!! And yummy, that´s sooooo delicious! Sometimes they also have pretzel buns and I really can say that these are awesome! Almost like in Germany — and I can say, cause that´s my home country… The staff is friendly and the prizes are totally fine for what you get. When we have visitors I always tell them to have breakfast there once, but they usually go there more often after they where there the first time… =) what should I say more??? =)

Bonus points for being super central and windows on 3 sides. I just like being able to sit somewhere and see the city go by. The baked good are average, but ok. Unfortunately the staff seems unfriendly and really put out if you ask for things that they should have given you by default,. butter for a muffin etc.

We went to the café at 10pm on a Friday night after a long day of skating. Looking for a warm beverage in this wet, soggy weather, we wanted to find something sweet and hot. The environment was very warm and welcoming and we immediately felt like home! We ordered the white hot chocolate with an extra serving of whipped cream. It was the right amount of sweet, and the peppermint shavings on top added a nice refreshing kick with each sip. Recommendations — if you aren’t a fan of whipped cream, don’t get the whipped cream hahaha

I’ve only come for their tea and pastries, but I’ve never been disappointed! I live near here and I routinely take visitors here after doing other activities further downtown. The cheesecake brownie always impresses, and the cakes and pies are fantastic. It’s always busy, but I’ve never seen a single person in here in a bad mood. It’s great that they’re open 24 hours. When I ran out of time to decorate the cake I made for a friends birthday, I stopped here on my way to work, and came out with a beautiful cake that had her name on it for less than 30.00. It’s supermarket speed at boutique bakery value, with even better hours. How can you go wrong?

Visited Vancouver for a couple days and if I could go back for one more meal, it would be a no brainier to come here for their Steak & Cheese Panini! The sandwich looks very average in the display but when’s it’s grilled, it’s magical. The Italian pocket was really good as well. And the Flat White espresso drink was also delicious. Wish I could give this place 6 stars.

This is a cozy little spot, great to grab a panini and donut on a rainy afternoon. The soup was what kept this little gem from a 5 star review but the service and sweets still keep it at the top of my list.

Nosh and Nibble came here solo prior to meeting a friend for an event and I ordered a Chocolate Almond Croissant($ 4.50). This croissant was no skimp on the chocolate nor almond. Atop a white sweet paste-topped croissant was a visible layer of crushed almonds followed by another layer of chocolate sauce drizzle. Biting into the croissant led to some smoother chocolate gooey bits inside amidst doughy and flaky croissant layers. This was by no means a healthy treat, but I fully realized my sweet tooth cravings through eating this beautiful dessert treat. I was going to order a slice of cake too but it looked like it was from Costco so I opted for this chocolate almond croissant instead. Presentation across the board was pretty and average, but the prices and look are a little lower than that seen at Beaucoup Bakery.

I had the yam & rosemary quiche, and it was very yummy. A bit too oily for my liking though. Nice little spot with a good selection of food.

Breka has a lot of great things going for it. I was so glad to stumble on it one morning and have returned many(many!) times since, because it is the most affordable quick coffee + pastry I’ve found on Davie street. 1. It is open 24 hours. And serves breakfast all day/night. Be still my beating heart! 2. Pastries and deserts suit every taste. I’m a fan of custard and fruit desserts and this place has plenty of those. Apricot filled donuts, apple custard tart, cheesecake, passion fruit mousse and apple strudel. They have some unique European pastries you won’t find elsewhere in Vancouver. Try the Copenhagen! I had to Google it and soon decided it was my favourite new pastry. 3. Their lunch options are appetizing, small and quite affordable. A cornish pastry is just $ 3.25. And they have quiche, paninis, and soup that would make a perfect lunch under $ 10. If I worked nearby I would come here for a quick bite of lunch all the time. 4. They sell loaves of bread and I can vouch for their deliciousness. 5. I actually enjoy the music they play. It is rare to hear oldies or vintage R&B in Vancouver. I find it charming. 6. I like their London Fog. Sure they aren’t as rich as JJ Beans, but a light Tea latte is exactly what I want to go along with a rich pastry. Ok, let’s talk about the negatives and why Breka gets 4 stars from me. The downsides are just what you might expect from an affordable café like this: 1. The food isn’t baked on site. So even though it tries to look like a bakery… it’s more of a deli. The quality is generally good but don’t expect anything to be truly fresh. 2. It can get crowded, particularly in the evening when everyone is studying and hanging around for a length of time. So plan to pick up and order to go if you’re coming on a weekend evening. TLDR: Pastries served 24 hours a day — Yay! Try the Copehangen, apple custard or a fruit filled donut. It is cheap for Vancouver and it can get crowded.

First of all, I need to say that I would’ve given this place 4 or 5 stars if I hadn’t found a USEDSTAPLE in my slice of pistachio ganache cake. I tried their curry chicken sandwich and chai latte first, and both were absolutely delicious. I’ve never heard of a curry chicken sandwich, and I was afraid that since curry is such a strong spice that it would be overpowering. The curry was muted, though, so it wasn’t too salty or anything. The chai latte was amazing. The most common reasons for me not liking a place’s chai latte are that it has too much foam or it’s too sweet. Breka’s has just a noticeable yet thin layer of foam and the latte is very smooth. Later, the beautiful slices of cake were calling my name, and so I caved and got the pistachio ganache cake. About two-thirds of the way through, my teeth bit down on something hard, and what do you know, it’s a staple. It had been clearly used for something– because it was all bent and twisty. I can’t even imagine how it landed in there. Unfortunately, this wasn’t the first experience I’ve ever had of finding non-edible things in food, and so I waited until the counter wasn’t busy, and I went up to the cashier to let her know about the situation. She made a face, said sorry, and that was it. Whole conversation over in 10 seconds. Since I’m from the US, I don’t know if Canada normally has the same etiquette where in this case, a manager or supervisor of some sorts would apologize and either refund the price of the food or give a replacement for free. I wouldn’t have accepted either of these things, but I was expecting a sincere apology. I even stayed there for a little while longer to see if I could hear her telling her supervisor or someone about it or if the supervisor would come by and apologize, but nope. Overall, delicious options available here. Just disappointed about how service was carried out.

Reviewing as I sit here just now… There is plenty of space in this café. I have only been in Vancouver for a couple of days, but have already noticed that a good number of the cafes do not have much to offer in their seating areas. It’s my first latte in Vancouver! To be honest, it’s okay. I expected more. I hear a lot about coffee in this city and know that I will find a better spot within time: D. I also tried their chocolate almond croissant which is enough to feed a family. I mean, it’s not super big or anything, it’s just heavy as f*ck. I had to stop eating it. And if you know me well enough, you would know that I almost never stop eating. The croissant is good but I have also had better. I don’t think I would swing by here again and I don’t think it’s a ‘can’t miss’ of Vancouver. *Wifi password is their phone number: 6044288080

I’m giving this place a 5 star for the fresh brewed code they make. I’m very impress as I don’t see«fresh brewed» at a coffee shop in LA. Although I’m only here for 4 days, I’ve been here every day for their coffee. As for their food and service, it has been great. Greeted by a friendly staff and food you can order and take with you on day trip excursions. Anyone visiting Vancouver, come get yourself a fresh coffee, here. This place is open 24⁄7.

My company ordered pastries from there today. I got some apple pie, lemon cake, chocolate croissant and a Danish. When I had the Danish I was like woah!!! This thing is super good. I loved it. Not sure if I was super hungry or what. I was amazed by it. The chocolate croissant was a bit sweet but still good. The lemon cake was really fresh. Very fluffy. Everything was good. Yummy.

Sausage rolls like Australia makes ‘em. A taste of home just down the street. Pasty’s for the Brits in town and a whole host of delicious European baked goods. But… There’s no daily brewed coffee. What? That took a moment to understand. Other than that a great place to pop in for a light meal or coffee break, anytime of the day. Literally!

You mean I can buy cheesecake at 3am?!? This was my exact reaction when I was told Breka is open 24⁄7!!! I don’t buy bread so I can’t speak on that. Their pastries and treats are delicious though. I have tried the cheesecakes, red velvet and chocolate mousse but always end up getting the pistachio ganache. The sandwiches always look super sketchy-not fresh. I wonder how long they sit out for. I have never been to Breka during the day so perhaps they are fresh in the morning. When I go to Breka– typically after 8pm the tomatoes and cucumbers on the sandwiches look off. The service is pretty fast and the staff seem to be having fun though they have to work overnight. Everything is also decently priced so I usually leave with more than I should There are definitely better bakeries/coffee shops in town but Breka has the advantage at 3 am!

One of the best meals we had on the trip was breakfast here. The Italian hot pie was dynamite. The breakfast croissants were also very good, the only thing I didn’t like was how they pressed the croissant. They asked if we wanted them warm, which I figured meant in the oven. They came out pressed, which kind of hurts the experience of a croissant. Anyhow, the taste was still good so maybe I’m nitpicking. The white chocolate raspberry scone was pretty average. But, 3 good sandwiches and some good coffee combined with a nice ambiance makes for a good review.
