The Hobbyhorse has been a favorite of ours for some time now, so we thought we would introduce some friends to the place. It is a quaint authentic pub with standard pub food. I ordered the steak special of the evening which had a caramelized onion sauce, twice baked potato and broccoli/carrot veggies. The steak which was to be medium rare was very rare with so much gristle throughout, it was inedible. The caramelized onion sauce just tasted like salty gravy. And the twice baked potato seemed like a frozen prepared item. Now… remember, we like this place, so I’m not being overly critical! When I told my waiter about my meal he was less than interested and returned my barely touched meal to the kitchen without so much as a «sorry»! Well. I’m sorry. We won’t be back.

Service was excellent but food was completely disappointed, way over price for the quality of it. We ordered roasted beef dip sandwich, fish and chips, crab cake and fried shrimp. Fried shrimp was store bought, crap cake was mushy and hardy any crab meat, fish had way too much batter on it and the roast beef was frozen, defrost and reheat, it was very dry and tough.

It’s always a pleasure dining here. Especially in the winter when you arrive for a cold winters day and the fireplace is on. The servers are pleasant and if you love single malts this is the place to be. They have an amazing selection of malts and they are reasonably priced. The menu is limited, but good pub fare is there. Look for the specials as they are worth it for the flavour and value. We go there often.

My wife and I love this place — I first discovered the Hobby Horse while working on a show in Uxbridge at the Music Hall. We went here several times for lunch in the pub, and ever since then, a few times a year, I try to make it up to Uxbridge to visit. Just remember that they are NOT open on Monday’s! I did that a couple of times, because I didn’t realize their schedule. The food is excellent, service is great and friendly. A very nice small town pub without the small town attitude. We even went in once with a group of about 10 people, and they managed to serve us without a huge delay. I was very impressed with this! If you are in Uxbridge. I definately recommend having lunch or dinner at the Hobby Horse.
