Value Village

Pricing is not the best but they have a ton of stuff so I usually find something good every time I go there. Crowded does not begin to describe how busy this location is. Reasonably well organized and the staff are helpful. You can get better pricing when they have specials on.

This place is terrible. Totally over-​priced. and apparently unaware that you can find cool clothing at Winners/​Marshalls for not much more than the nasty 1980s clothing with sweat stains on it that they have over-​priced. $ 12 for some Moore’s poly/​cotton dress shirt?
I found 2 pairs of men’s shorts for $ 8 which is alright. but you can also find men’s summer shorts at Winner’s for $ 15, that fit properly and are not stained and stinky.
AND… there are no mirrors in the place!!! except at the front dressing room, and there is only one mirror outside the dressing room. Totally inconvenient if you are quickly trying on dress shirts over your t-​shirt (or a hat or jacket or whatever else).
I love me some good second hand shopping, but this place is crap

The most ‘interesting’, open to interpretation, Value Village.
Prices were either dirt cheap, Sorals for $ 30, or ridiculously high, Talula Blazer for $ 40 and an H&M faux leather jacket for $ 38; found myself with a handful of Aritzia items for $ 10 each, while my friend found BDG pants for $ 15.
To put it simply, their pricing strategy is mind boggling.
This is certainly the most organized VV in Toronto, perhaps thrift shop in general. That said, the amount of low brands /​subpar quality pieces you have to wade through, well, I guess it’s alright?

Ummmmmm yeah, no. Just… no.
$ 49.99 for an ancient «made in China» suit that reeks like cigarettes, with moth holes in it?
$ 39.99 for a pair of old, dirty, worn out leather shoes that aren’t even name brand?
$ 19.99 for a threadbare cotton Bluenotes cardigan from like, 1997?
$ 12.99 for a Walmart brand «George» t-​shirt that was probably cheaper at retail value?
This is not the same Value Village I used to know and love. The prices are really appalling now. I understand the concept of inflation, but come on. You’re just ripping us off now, Value Village! I don’t see how that justifies the price increase by THAT much.
I saw a homeless person trying to haggle down the prices with the manager and she wasn’t having any of it. So sad.
Still gets three stars because if you shop on their 50% off days, the prices are a little easier to swallow. And like with all thrift stores, there still are *some* gems to be found… but don’t be surprised if you leave severely disappointed.
Tip: try the Salvation Army a couple blocks east for way better deals.

Best thrift store I’ve found in Toronto so far. It’s huge and well organized.
Unlike some other places, they keep all the clothing really well sorted by gender, type, size, and colour. So it’s easy to find things that will actually fit onto your body.
Prices are good, and shopping is convenient.

When I went in today in the early afternoon, it was quite clean and I was surprised. And even though she was busy, the associate at fitting room greeted me in a friendly-​manner.
Tip: This location can be quite busy, so shop early in the day to get the best finds! No items are brought onto the sales floor on the weekend, so weekdays are best for the hardcore thrifters.

i went to this vv for the first time over the weekend… it is awesome. A lot of people talk about the leslieville one… its okay… but this one has a good shoe department and purse department. Nice
from out of town and go to rsale shops where ever i end up and this one is nice… good jewelry. kind of high but not for what youre getting…

This is one of my favourite secondhand clothing stores in Toronto.
It’s huge & fairly well organized, so it’s a great place to get basics.
If you’re thorough & open to it, there are often treasures to be found. Whenever I shop here, I always find lots of things I wasn’t necessarily expecting to find.

It’s probably the biggest Value Village I’ve been to, but it’s also one of the most organized. The last time I came here, I walked out with five books, three dishes, two sweaters, a dress, a hat and a big smile (cheesy, I know) for the low price of $ 60. Among the books was THE Origin of Species and a book entitled An Introduction to Communism. Wonderful. I also found exactly what I was looking for — some 1920’s accessories for a theme party.
The one thing keeping this from five stars is that this joint is getting expensive! Seriously, $ 11 for a flimsy shirt-​dress that was clearly homemade, that has seams coming out?! Nah, homie.

I went to this value Village location Aug 19^th 2013. I had recently cleaned out my closet and wanted to donate a bunch of clothing and replace what I’ve gotten rid of. I couldn’t have been happier with a thrift store. It’s such a huge location that contains everything you would ever be looking for. I’m already planing on going back. This as fastly become one of my favorite place to buy clothing.

This is one of my favourite Value Village’s in Toronto.
Positive:
This location is very clean and organized. I also find the staff to be very nice and helpful. In comparison to other locations, they have a very good selection of jewelry and belts.
Negative:
I find it can be picked over quite quickly in comparison to other Value Village’s. Also, I find their pricing does not always make sense (in comparison to other Value Village’s).

What can I say? I love this place.
My 4 year old comes along sometimes, and if we both look hard enough we find some sweet gems. I found this wicked knitted poncho for her that you could never find anywhere else. one of a kind! Not to mention the 50% off sale that was on today, that definitely sweetened the pot.
3 stars you ask? Well, there are better Value Village locations out there, I find this one picked over a lot of the times (true. given the location). However, I do prefer poking around Kensington for gems and second hand garb.
But all things considered, it’s always time well spent!

When I first came back to Toronto I went to this store and spent $ 100 and on my way home, went to the Walmart on Dufferin and found the same shirts brand new (of course) for a cheaper price than I had just paid for used. I was not happy. And they have a no refund policy, only exchange, you have 7 days and it has to be exchanged the day you are in the store and if you don’t find something else, you have to take your item home and come back with it and try again… they don’t issue instore credit. If there is no price tag, you can’t buy it. I saw a guy almost begging them to let him buy a pea jacket that was in perfect condition, but they wouldn’t price it for him until the next day.
I have found some good stuff there, and it is a long process, expect to spend well over and hour or two, but really there are much cheaper places like Goodwill and The Sally Ann with a lot cheaper prices and sometimes you can get new stuff. Try Walmart, better prices and exchange and refund, and a bonus… all new stuff.
Beware of the filthiest, most disgusting bathrooms I have ever been in, and I’m not exaggerating. If you saw it in a movie you wouldn’t believe it.
Try to go on half price day.

It is what it is. It’s a thrift store. I come here mainly to buy used toys for my wee-​one. At first I was a little skeptical but I started digging and I found some pretty awesome little toys for next to nothing. Yay me! Baby toys are really expensive and babies get bored of them so fast that paying $ 20 for every toy (which seems to be the going rate for most basic toys) gets really expensive. I’ve found some toys here that are almost new for $ 2. On the weekend I found some old school wooden alphabet /​number blocks for 4 $ — a little on the pricey side for VV but significantly cheaper than any toy store would sell them in Toronto.
I always find the «bag ‘o toys» to be hit and miss — there’s usually one toy in the bag that I want and then 3 or 4 others that I don’t. Also, I’m not sure why they bag multiples of the same items together… Why would I want two tambourines? Or 5 rattles?
It sometimes seems that parents drop their kids off here to run wild down the aisles, tearing all the toys off the shelves. I’ve had kids scream as I start trying toys that they’d previously not seen and that are out of their reach — clearly the toy I have in my hand is much more interesting than any of the hundreds of other toys they’ve already pulled off the shelves and tried themselves. The toy section is usually pretty hard to navigate with a stroller and I’ve had to protect my baby from toys being thrown /​waved around by these children that appear to have been orphaned here.
I also like watching the ridiculous hipsters shopping here. I spotted one guy wearing a poncho with navajo printed leggings with a ridiculous moustache shopping for a wooden tennis racket on the weekend. I kid you not. It was picture worthy but I didn’t want to flater his ego.

This is the equivalent of Emmaus in France, Value Village sells all sorts of second hand products. Dishware, clothes, furniture, toys, etc…
Do not hesitate to dig in to find what you want!

A recent rearrangement of displays at this location makes the shopping experience even easier. Things are well-​organized and the supply of housewares and children”s clothes keeps me coming back. Good place to pick up books and tchotchkes if you’re into that kind of thing. Clothing is a real mix and maybe the good stuff is being snatched up by hipsters who can come first thing in the morning — they are there always working their way through the merchandise. The location has recently become very label conscious and is putting some insane prices out there (no one walks into Value Village to pay $ 75.00 for a skirt).
Staff are efficient and polite, your kids can come here and misbehave without you feeling embarrassed, Friday mornings seem to bring in people who smell of booze and wander the aisles aimlessly. Halloween and the 50% sale are only for the brave of heart.

Bought a sweater here for an ugly sweater party.
The store is well laid-​out and the lighting is bright. It’s clean (for a thrift store) and it;s huge so there’s lots of selection. I was surprised at the amount of hipsters shopping here.

The prices at VV continue to go up-​up-​up, to the point where I regularly find used items selling for equal to or greater than the new MSRP! In particular, they seem fond of over-​pricing Ikea merchandise. Not sure why. It’s rather common to spot Lack end tables for over $ 10, not to mention the abundance of cheap Ikea frames selling for a pretty penny. People have even begun vandalizing the exterior with scrawled slogans such as «leave it on the shelf!» and «overpriced!». Ha!
Still, we frequent the place mostly in hopes of finding pricing mistakes we can take advantage of. We recently picked up a Barrymore sofa for re-​upholstering that ran us $ 10… comparable sofas sell for $ 3000-​$ 5000, and the only thing wrong with it is the old upholstery (and the spirit of someone’s grandmother that probably haunts the thing… coolness!).
Ah well… the overpriced clothes and merchandise make the place look pretty foolish, but maybe that’ll scare enough thrifters away that the prices can come back down and we can once again enjoy our thrift bonanzas!

Never go to a thrift store in a hipster neighbourhood. There is too much competition for the good stuff. Therefore this Value Village location should probably be avoided on that basis alone.
On the other hand, I have scored here a few times. It helps to go in the middle of the week. There are some good books to be found.
Their prices are going up too high for my liking. I expect cheap prices from the Double V, and they have been letting me down.

As the other reviews say do not get overwhelmed by this place, even though I say that you can’t help but get overwhelmed.
This place is huge but I have yet to score major gems here. However they do have a good jewelery section where you can find good pieces and also their house aisle are huge.
It seems like what they do best here is overprice on clothing and shoes, $ 20 for a used H&M/Forever 21 dress is not acceptable if you can get it for the same price new.
Now come Halloween, they have major costume sales and selections, that’s a time I would make sure to visit.

I am what you would call an avid Value Villager. As such, I find that each Value Village have their own, shall we say «personality». Some are better at certain things than others, they each have a slightly different feel to them, and you really have to approach each one from the correct angle.
The Lansdowne Value Village can come across as a little hectic at times, but it’s important to not let that discourage you from finding all the great deals to be had. Try not to visit this one at their busy times, it’s scary for first timers. Weekday nights and early on the weekends are your best bet. This one gets picked through like crazy so visiting as often as possible is a good idea. New stuff is rolling out all the time. I sometimes go 2 – 3 times a week, which I realize sounds ridiculous, but that’s how you find the good stuff. You really gotta wine and dine this lady a few times before getting any action.
My favourite section to check out at this one is their knickknacks. Dishes, electronics, things made from wood, you never know what you’re going to find in there!
