The Well of Alternative Medicine

I went here for a RMT massage this week. The girl working the front desk was friendly and efficient. I arrived early as directed (first-​time client) and was ready and waiting ahead of my scheduled appointment time. My issue is with my massage– I was asked once about how the pressure was etc., and I requested more. Throughout the massage I had to ask for more– it felt like I was getting a light rub-​down, not an actual deep tissue massage which I had booked. I also had a 60 minute session, but it only lasted 50 minutes. I left not feeling the exact same as I did before my treatment, which was very disappointing as I was really hoping to relieve some of my muscle tension.
Sorry but I won’t be back… They do have a lot of RMTs on staff and hopefully some are better, but I just won’t chance it.

Just a fantastic experience. I had a 90 minute RMT by Bogdan and probably the best I have had, and I get many massages.
He was professional, got to the right spots on my back and shoulders, gave me a ton of information about readjusting my body, and was overall super pleasant. I have referred a friend and she will be booking there with him as well and will definitely return myself very soon.
Glad I found this place! So far so good.

When I arrived at 11:30am for my scheduled 11:45am appointment the door was locked, and I didn’t end up getting into the massage room until 11:57pm. Carol the therapist spoke with me about my back problem (the reason I went to the clinic) until 12:02pm and didn’t begin my massage until 12:08. She ended the massage at exactly 12:51. That’s 43 Minutes long. Even if she had calculated the 5 minutes of consultation into the massage time, she was still 12 minutes short of my 60 minute massage. When I asked to only be charged for 45 minutes instead of 60, the receptionist agreed that this would be ok, but Carol stated that the consultation was part of the massage, and that I will be charged the full 60 minutes.
I will not be returning to The Well.
This is the second bad experience I have had at The Well, which is why I’m choosing to write this review. I waited so long to try their services once again after my first experience, because in my memory it was the worst massage I ever had — the room was freezing and the therapist did not focus on the areas I requested. He also did not use as much strength that I requested– barely working my muscles. The therapist was Jarrod.
Because of my occupation, I get massage therapy at a minimum of every three weeks. My regular therapist recently moved out of the city, and I was really hoping to find a regular clinic that I could visit. Since I live across the street, I opted to try The Well once again — against my better judgement. Although Carol’s massage was not ideal (because she also did not focus as much on my back as I requested — instead focusing on my legs and shoulders even though I specifically stated not to do those areas unless she had time after my back had been completely worked on), she seemed to have the pace and strength that I like in a therapist. It’s too bad that she seems to think that a 43 minute massage + 5 minutes of consultation is equal to a 60 minute massage.

Tried this place out when we couldn’t get a booking at our usual place, last-​minute. We had Denise and she is just out of this world. Denise was very professional, friendly and really listened to on-​the-​spot client feedback. I called her the Break Maker because she can really work out those knots.
I like the ambiance of the whole place — very clean, bright out front but relaxed and dimly lit where the rooms are located. Staff were approachable and friendly. They have a wide array of products for relaxation, aromatherapy and pain relief that I wish I had more time to peruse, but based on my first visit, I’ll definitely be back again.

I always leave feeling super relaxed, the staff is professional, and I’d absolutely recommend it to others.

Been bouncing between massage therapist for a while since mine left for the west coast. My wife came here and was treated by Ben and had good things to say so I decided to book an appointment and received massage treatment from Carol.
I’m typically the type who is disappointed when the therapist can’t apply enough pressure but Carol is able to go above and beyond my deep tissue needs. Thoroughly impressed. They’ve earned a repeat customer in me.
The online booking feature is super handy (I hate phones), and they apparently can also bill through insurance directly which is another plus to round out this 5 star review.

I have been frequenting The Well, and my regular RMT Leslie Vasquez, for nearly two years now. I was originally referred to The Well by my coworkers (we work at a hotel/​restaurant nearby).
I find Leslie to be professional and courteous. She is very intuitive, and can always tell if I’m in the mood to chat or stay quiet, or if I need a relaxing massage versus some intense work to sort out my muscles.
I find the online booking system to be incredibly convenient, and I plan to continue frequenting this establishment for the foreseeable future!

Sorry to read that others didn’t have the best experience here, but they obviously didn’t go to Ben (Wong). He is professional and courteous, not to mention a master at deep tissue massage. Thinking back over all the RMT’s I’ve gone to over the last 20+ years, he is by far the best. He’s also a great resource for tips and referrals that will help heal you quicker.
Also, my experience at the reception has been good.

Bad attitude and poor service. I went in a while back for a massage and the woman who massaged me was so unprofessional, I am still in shock. Her massage was very lazy, no real pressure, even when I requested stronger pressure. She also gave me some very awkward unsolicited advice on how I should «accidentally» get pregnant so that my boyfriend would propose. Unreal! This place really needs to hire some mature, professional RMT’s to replace these people!

In a nutshell: go somewhere else!
I walked in to make an appointment and at that time was asked how strong a massage I was used to.
I explained my massage therapist from another practice (which was away on vacation at the time) usually did deep tissue and i’d like the same. I’m an athlete, and had been training earlier that day, resulting in a few sore muscle groups.
The lady at the desk explained they only had one male employee available that day who was able to do this, and asked if I cared that a man was going to do the massage. I was fine with it — really didn’t care one way or another — RMT is a profession, why should I?
Either way, I prepaid for an hour — which was charged directly to my benefits plan when I arrived to my appointment.
As I’m in the «waiting room» my blonde male massage therapist comes out from finishing with another appointment prior, and begins speaking with the lady at the front desk.
She explains in a rude/​joking manner that she «hand picked this one» especially for him, and the two essentially began a back and forth joke (of homophobic banter) about him massaging me. I was shocked at the lack of professionalism from both of them.
Once in the room, he was evidently uncomfortable. The massage I received was not in any way what I would expect from a RMT.
There are other (fantastic) massage therapy places about a 5 minute walk toward/​in Liberty Village. Go there instead!

I’m very disappointed as I had an appointment for a massage booked over a month ago for today (Sunday) but it JUST got cancelled now — only a half an hour before my appointment at 10:30am. What if I was already en-​route there?! Mind you, I didn’t leave yet but had gotten up early on a long weekend to get ready for it.
Plus I was booked at the same time as my partner as we were going to go there together.
The other disappointing factor is that no offer was given to have a replacement booking even with a different therapist for today. (which may only be because they didn’t have a replacement therapist available)
LASTLY, it does seems strange that I had also received a call on Saturday (yesterday) from a different person — apparently someone else had cancelled so they wanted to see if I wanted a later appointment which I declined since I was booked to go at the same time as my partner. Today’s excuse was that he had food poisoning.
No offence, but I find this unacceptable and very unprofessional. I will not be re-​booking at this location.
I am also a person that does suffers from back pain so I WAS looking forward to this appointment. Which is one of the main factors of my disappointment and hence this review.
Just an additional note — my boyfriend went for his appointment and they gave him some free bathsalts due to the inconvenience.

i had the BEST deep tissue massage I’ve ever had with Ben Wong.
I have lower back /​sciatic issues, and he was able to target the specific tension really well, where other massage therapists have not been able to.
He was also helpful and informative in reference to my self care routine.
