Very poor service. With one or two exceptions, the staff appears to have little if any interest in gardening, nursery or floral. Even basic questions, such as what types of ivy or boxwoods do you have, are met with blank stares. Great location but parking can be difficult.

Poor service and very little patience. I find it frustrating dealing with this place. You call them, ask them if they have something, they have only a couple. You ask them to hold it for you, they say no. You runs to pick it up and they sold it before you got their. Plant world is a bit out of the way but the service amazing.

I went here a few days ago and picked up a few plants. The store didn’t have enough, but I was told it was a fairly common plant and to check back in a few days. When I called back, the employee was downright rude to me informing me it was the end of the season and they wouldn’t be getting any more. When I asked if she could order some or how I could go about finding 2 more for my garden — she became very annoyed and nasty. Very disappointing. I would not recommend this garden centre.

If you’re a Rosedale matron with thousands to spend on landscaping then come here. If you’re just an ordinary person wanting a plant, shop somewhere else. I came to Summerhill with 2 friends from Winnipeg in late November. They wandered around the store admiring everything. I felt uncomfortable as not one sales person approached us in the hour we spent there. I saw a beautiful croton plant(for $ 50+) that I returned a few days later to buy. When I got it home I watched leaf after leaf drop off. It had spider mites. I wrote a message on their website asking for help — no answer came. I left a phone message — no answer. By the time I called again there was a message saying that they had closed for the winter but would respond to messages. I left another message. No answer ever came. Seems like a very unusual way to do business, if you ask me.

I came here before I discovered Fiesta Farms Garden Centre … and now I realize I paid too much for stuff that wasn’t even organic.(If only someone had Unilocaled about Fiesta Farms Garden Centre before me!) While the vibe at Fiesta Farms is tree-hugging and hands-on, Summerhill Nursery & Floral is more posh, with an air of «Muffy, darling, the gardener will handle it.» There’s a heavy emphasis on decorative landscaping; trees, shrubs, and topiaries galore. No surprise that this place sits at the base of Rosedale where multimillion-dollar homes boast precision-cut lawns and flower beds Martha Stewart would cream her toile garden pants over. The centre is sprawling, and difficult to navigate if you don’t know your perennials from your annuals, but the selection is eye-buggingly extensive. I’ll know where to come when I get that white-picket-fenced house but, for now, it doesn’t best serve my particular needs for an edible garden on my low-rent deck. This place is close to the Dupont subway station but there’s also a parking lot in the rear if your chauffeur happens to be waiting with the Jag.
