There’s something so special about corner stores in Toronto. They always fit the vibe of neighbourhoods they serve and they always look«in-season.» They also tend to a have total random mishmash of things. This place is one of those diamonds in the rough, a true gem. Here you’ll find, a decent plant section in the summer, ice year round, cheap in-season fruits and veggies, the paper, lotto tickets — the usual. Of course my favourite thing about this place is fresh cut flowers in the back. Yesterday, I left with three gorgeous bunches of tulips for 10 bones. Can’t beat the price. The family that own this place are incredibly hardworking and legit peeps. Remember cash only!

One of two variety store on the sleepy corner of Hallam and Dovercourt. Sun Shine is the bigger of the two with more of an emphasis on grocery items. In the spring and summer they have a decent selection of garden herbs and other small flowers and plants. I’ll usually pick up some organic rosemary or the like. I find the prices are better than Fiesta Gardens on the items that they have. In the fall they sell pumpkins of a few different sizes and other small garden decorations. It’s a pretty big selection for a convenience store and it’s a popular spot for those who live in the Dovercourt Park neighbourhood.
