Souz Dal

Went there on a Saturday in late April… pretty dead. Drinks were okay, but 1 bartender accused my friend of only giving him a $ 5 instead of a $ 20 so didn’t want to give her change. Even though her drink cost more than $ 5 so it didn’t make sense. He eventually apologized and gave her the right change.
Asked the DJ if he would play something other than EDM music even that our group of 20 were the only ones there… nope… he almost scoffed at us. Sounds like this place is better in the summer with the patio. The drinks were good, had their Old Fashioned.
Will have to come back and visit.

i came here like a wrecking ball… pretty much.
I walked in, was introducing myself to my friends party, and decided to put my jacket on the hooks by the bar.
Too bad I didn’t notice the steps.bam.
Fell flat on my face into a group of three or four people standing by the bar lol. Almost knocked over the DJ booth!
All clumsiness aside, a friend of mine set up camp here on her last day in toronto, so we stopped by for a couple of drinks to bid her farewell!
The décor is dark and sexy, with a hint of retro sex appeal.
The bartender was super hot, nate I think his name was?
Will defo be back just to meet him.
Be careful as soon as u enter, theres like a weird small rampy kinda thing that I noticed a few people trip on (weirdly enough I didnt trip there)
Drink features ranged from 9 — 12 dollars, we had the El Diablo which was tequila and some other sweet stuff. It was good, but didnt taste strong. Ended up with a couple of tall boys of PBR (when in hipsterland, do as hipsters right?)
Cute place, if I lived in the area I’d be back more.

What’s with the angry looking lumberjack behind the bar? The unwelcoming gaze as you walk in? The toque and full red beard ablaze and the look of disdain? I don’t get it. Is that why the otherwise awesome bar was completely empty? I walked in, and within a few minutes I had to leave. The way too self absorbed dirtbag behind the bar made me uncomfortable.

Came here on a random Sunday night.
While empty, my friends and I could tell that this place is probably awesome on a Friday or Saturday night. Atmosphere is awesome, patio is awesome, food menu is awesome (different types of tacos). Oh and did I mention the patio has sand? Automatic 4-​star if you ask me.
I may have to rate it higher once I actually go on a night with more people.

A dark, mysterious no frills cocktail bar. They’re in the business of making pretty decent and cheap mixed drinks. It’s intimate and dimly lit with a charming poetic vibe. The cocktail range is incredible. They have everything from fun tropical drinks served in coconut shells and tiny umbrellas to brandy, amarula, bourbon, triple sec drinks, all for under $ 7.75.
They don’t have a food menu but are ok with outside food. As small as they are, they have a tiny dance floor near the DJ. The music is not fantastic but a few umbrella drinks are bound to put you in the mood.

I’ve wanted to try this place ever since I noticed it on my daily streetcar ride — there is something about that weird orb sign that made me want to check it out!
I finally got my chance one Friday night for drinks with friends. At 9 PM, this place was basically a ghost town, which was fine by me because we got first dibs on seats!
Why I like this place is the drink menu. I appreciate a good cocktail list, and the fact that they had $ 3 shots that night (AND they let us pick which one since we were the first there) didn’t hurt either. It seems like they have a few daily deals that are definitely worth checking out.
The service was decent (not great) — it was kind of annoying that we had to order from the bar even though the place was dead. But the servers were friendly, so that was a plus.
By about 11 PM the place was pretty packed — lots of groups like ours just out for drinks. Since the space is pretty narrow, it got a bit crowded, and making your way up to the bar was a bit trickier.
Since it was a chilly night we definitely didn’t check out the patio, but I’ll be back in the warmer months — I’ve heard great things about it!
Souz Dal is nothing EXTRA special, but it is still a great place if you’re on the hunt for a cocktail!

This place tickled my fancy when I looked up at their entrance and was greeted by the hanging orb by the door. I suppose «tickle my fancy» isn’t the sort of vocabulary I should use to describe such a rustic and bare bones type location. Brick wall and narrow with no fancy seating greets you as you enter.
Take some time to choose what you want to drink as their drink list holds all the classic bar drinks one needs for some winding down. Make sure to glance at the chalk board on the right as you enter for their daily special, they have sme fantastic deals up there, if not a nice cocktail for under $ 8 should satisfy you. While no one in my group tried them the also have «Tiki Grogs» and one drink called the Volcano which I certainly would have tried had I not been driving that night.
Things aren’t perfect here though, while the atmosphere is ideal for a night of drinks and mingling, service was basically non existent and all drinks had to be ordered at the bar, and it wasn’t the friendliest service either although its relatively quick. Their lack of a food menu could also deter some as I was not alone in feeling puckish as the night went on.
Overall for drinks, Souz Dal has a nice dive-​y feel, while nothing fantastic they do the basics right!

Mais quelle idée que d’avoir un ‘zinc’ en ‘cuivre’? Après quelques heures au bar, on a les mains qui dégagent une odeur cuivrée désagréable. Bön passons, le service est sans passion et sans désagrément et c’est un bar où il faut bon causer. Du moins c’était le cas à son ancien emplacement. Nous verrons si la nouvelle enseigne est une amélioration ou pas dans les prochains jours !

Dark and unassuming, I sometimes forget about Souz Dal until I catch sight of the great hanging globe sign outside, or the board advertising their awesome drink specials.
I love this place, it’s perfectly dark and cozy, with a decent sized patio out back. It’s perfect for a date or catching up with a few friends. Drinks are fantastic, service is decent, atmosphere is dim and intimate.
Not much more to say, definitely worth a visit if you’re nearby and thirsty…

I never got brave enough to walk into Souz Dal and have a drink alone… It just looks so dim, so dark…
After my pre dinner drink, and my dinner drink and a full stomach, I finally got to go in Souz Dal with 3 other Unilocalers…

Alright, alright, so as it turns out I sometimes judge a book by its cover. Or, in this case, a bar by its’ signage. Let’s face it, I’m a sucker for good signage. And Souz Dal has it. The rusty globe hangs outside like a relic, the name of the bar cut into the side. Lit, and glowingfrom within, it reminds me of one of those tin punch-​out crafts made from a (insert random legume) canat summer camp. But much cooler of course. It was this sign that caught my attention on more than one occasion, beckoning me in when I had somewhere else to be. Finally, one night a couple of weeks ago, I gave in to its sirens call. I was a little bit disappointed.
It was devoid of people save for us and the lonely bartender. I say lonely, butjudging by his charm (see: none) he probably liked it better thatway. Granted though, it was early — Souz Dal only has a drink menu — and a few more folk trickled in as the night wore on.
The stars I gave are attributed solelyto the bar’s ambience. Dimly lit, and painted in muted reds and oranges it has an earthy orMoorish feel to it. Worn textiles and cathedral mirrors adorn the walls, while candles flicker on every table, casting shadows. The back patio has a similar vibe happening, cloistered in by high walls, andlit by candles wedged in the mouths of old wine bottles.
Now I rarely turn down a good patio, but in this case I chose aseat inside, which says a lot. Reclined on velvet benches at our table by the open front window, we watched College Street come alive as we perused the drink menu. I was in a cocktail mood, and my friend had read somewhere that Souz Dal claimed to have the «best» mojitos in the city, so that was the first order I placed.
Now I’ve been to Cuba. I did a little backpacking, starting in Havanaand makingmy way to the South coast. I wouldn’t say I’m a connoiseur of the mojito because of this, but I diddrink my fair share, and like to think I know a thing or two about a good one. And this wasn’t one of them. There wasn’t nearly enough mint or sugar, so it was overwhelmingly bitter. I don’t like my mojitos to taste like Kool-​Aid, but I do like a little sweetness to curb the edge.
Unlikely to order another of the same, but unwilling to give up on the bar, we tried a few other beverages. Nothing wowed us. The Moscow Mule with its ginger beer offered a nice slow burn, but it also wasn’t a repeat offender. The fortune cookie garnish on the lychee-​infused Soho martini was fun, but not nearly as tasty as a lychee would have been.
Although funky signage and ambience mean a lot to me, a good drink means even more, so chancesare Iwon’t be returning to Souz Dal. If however, you are in the market for an intimate date setting (see: empty bar) then head on over. And if a mediocre mojito is your thing, then you can get them herefor $ 5.75 on Mondays.

What a gem!
It’s a cute and little place where the lights are low and the drinks flow. No seriously, five dollar drinks and other deals for every day of the week. Admitting to a wild Monday night, I indulged in the Mojito deal.
The service was really nice and adapted to our needs. If she saw that straws weren’t being used, she stopped bringing straws. The mojitos themselves were quite yummy, a bit on the icy side but still did the trick. Don’t take too much advantage of the deals though, bathrooms are downstairs! Aka you’ll be walking up and down stairs and narrow hallways, just be careful.
I’ll be back for the deals as well as all those other delicious-​sounding, dessert-​y, yet alcoholic beverages.

Oh Souz, what you do to me…
If you arrive early or get lucky, you can snag this perfect little «booth» by the front window, which just feels like something out of a movie scene. Warm, cozy, with a good view of the people walking by on College st.
I wish there were more places like this. Affordable booze! Even if you don’t hit up one of the drink specials, a glass of house wine only cost me $ 5.
The cocktail list sounds like they stole the names from a Cheesecake factory menu, if I wasn’t so against sugar-​laden bevvies I would be all over that.

Please don’t visit this place. It’s nice, and unspoiled by a-​holes and what would you want with a dimly-​lit, well-​stocked bar a few blocks from The Mod Club anyway?
Surely, you hate a year-​round patio, great service and daily drink specials.
Yeah, move on. I’ll hold down the fort.

I adore this little known gem, all because of the hidden intimate patio at the back… bliss in middle of Little Italy. For the most part this place feels undiscovered, possibly because of it’s unassuming rustic interior décor? If only people ventured just a little further in…
But hey I’m fine keeping it discreet, I even call it «mine» sometimes ;p
Great drinks selection, awesome non-​douchey patrons, great service, I have nothing to complain about.
I haven’t tried the food as yet but if I do I will update this review.

Small, dimly-​lit bar in Little Italy with a low douche factor and lots of North-​African-​inspired art. They have an extensive funky martini and cocktail menu as well as drink specials du jour:
Mondays — $ 5 mojitos
Tuesdays — $ 5 margaritas
Wednesdays — $ 3 rail drinks
Thursdays — $ 5 caipirinhas
Fridays — $ 3 house shooters
Saturdays — $ 3 house shooters
Sundays — $ 5 martinis and $ 20 pitchers of sangria
Portions tend to be small. There’s a patio but it’s covered. Don’t you dare smoke on it!

Oh Souz Dal where have you been all my life? I love this little watering hole. What’s not to like? It’s small enough to be cozy, big enough to accommodate a group of people. It’s got a small patio in back. The drinks are the cheapest yet some pretty decent quality along College Street in an area that is notoriously overpriced. The tunes are happening and there wasn’t any atypical Little Italy douchery in sight! I love it. :)
The Unilocal post Harbord House crew hit up Souz Dal and it was the perfect spot to wind down. I’m red penciling this little gem of a bar into my book for a great place to hook up with friends without breaking the bank. The only real draw back is that they serve no food whatsoever so there is no in house noshing to be had. You can, however, much like Magpie and the Red Lantern, bring your own goodies in the house. Duly noted for next time. When I’m boozing, I like my savouries.

Another night of sexy, sexy times at Souz Dal. The martini menu reads more like a dessert menu (what a tease) with names like crème brulée and creamsicle, and I’ve recently learned that they carry my new favourite drink — the Caipirinha (Brazil’s national drink, apparently). Incredibly yummy and expertly prepared. Amaretto Sours (my signature drink) are smooth, not too icy and just perfectly sour.
On Mondays, Tuesdays and Sundays mixed drinks are $ 4 instead of $ 8. Now that is what we call a «steal,» friends.

I have escorted half a dozen first dates to Souz Dal. It’s all very ‘Kissing Jessica Stein’, I know. Maybe I’m trying to capture this bar’s essence of mystery and sexiness to apply it to myself? The illusion has served me well, at least until my dates’ alcohol can take effect.
The cushioned window box lounge is the most coveted table — a cozy little hideaway with a view of the action on College Street. With the moody lighting and music, I feel as though I’m in a gypsy caravan that stays still while the world passes by. There’s a tiny patio hidden away, too, which feels a long way removed from Little Italy.
The cocktails are excellent: Astro Pop, Rasta, Jolly Rancher, Chocotini, Sweet Tart… and luscious whiskey sours. Rock the casbah, indeed.
