Two different tales brought two friends together.

Vanessa’s family was hiring a care provider. They ran into countless logistical issues such as scheduling, not knowing who was coming and what was happening during a visit.

Lucas’ mom has been a care provider for the past 6 years, he was fully aware of the compensation issues, lack of transparency and support that are common to many PSWs today.

So they decided to build something better. From hiring the best care providers to giving families the tools to manage appointments, they’re rethinking the entire model. It’s the kind of care they would want for their own family members and it’s something they care deeply about.

Like many other immigrant families, my mom has also worked as a Personal Support Worker for the past 7 years. It is a profession that doesn’t require a high level of education and a certificate can be obtained in a fairly short amount of time.

My mom loved what she does. She goes from house to house to help elders with their bathing, personal care, cooking, and sometimes, just to be there and sit with them. Despite the hard work, she would always come home with a big smile, knowing that she had a made a difference in someone’s life. I admire what she does.

However, like many other home care workers, my mom isn’t getting nearly paid for nearly what she deserves. She started off at minimum wage, then it slowly increases by $ 0.25 here, $ 0.25 there. That is not a living wage, which is part of the reason why we started Sage. We want to help families get great care that’s within their budget, but also pay our workers a wage they deserve.
