Moksha Yoga Uptown

Best moksha studio. Teachers are fabulous! Try Marc Anthony or Matt R’s classes! Clean facility — large women’s change room with many showers. Huge selection on classes!

I did the 30 day intro for $ 60 and was very pleased. The staff were very welcoming and friendly.
They offer a number of classes throughout the day, which worked really well with my varying schedule. They also offer mat rentals for $ 2, renting glass jars as a water bottle and have a small retail section with yoga clothing and gear (which was very helpful when I showed up without pants for my class!)
The change rooms were spacious and bright, with a number of showers stocked with soap and a hair dryer if needed.
I liked the majority of the instructors who taught my classes. Many did a great job at fostering safe space (e.g. Asking for consent before providing any adjustments) as well as providing modifications, with and without equipment, to poses for beginner like me!
The space is easily to reach by TTC and there are a few parking lots nearby. I was really pleased with this studio and would definitely go back!

Love this spot! They have the most amazing meditation workshops — my friend invited me to one a couple years ago and I’ve never looked back since. The women’s change room can be a little chaotic but it’s not a big deal. Beautiful studios, very skilled teachers. I recommend it to anyone!

I love this place. I joined on the one month unlimited intro price, and by the end of of the month I was hooked. I now frequent this place 3 – 4 times a week. I find instructors are consistently good. I love heat, and probably only once I felt the class was too humid. The temperature always seems to be just right for me. The night classes do get packed sometimes, but I do not feel I was ever mat to mat, there is always space between participants so you do all your poses. Front desk people are quite friendly, so if you are looking for a quality hot yoga class, def check this place out. If I have to look for smth that needs improvement, probably that would be mats where you leave your boots before you go o change rooms — in wet weather they get soaked, and you have to do a bit of jumping and hopping around to keep your socks dry (or take them off!) :)

I have been to 5 – 6 Moksha studios in various cities all for at least a few months each, and this one is by far THE best.
After the renovations last year, here is what I noticed about this place in comparison to other Moksha studios:
Huge variety of classes, very spacious change rooms, top notch instructors.
I would highly recommend Paul Bresge’s classes, best teacher I have ever met. He runs the Vinyassa 3 classes, which are more challenging and lots of fun.
Also recommend Jess Lemon’s classes, another awesome teacher.
Since the renovations, I also noticed the class sizes got smaller and less crowded because of two or three classes running simultaneously. There is always the after work crowdedness, but that can’t be avoided in any studio.

The classes and the staff are good. And that’s about it.
Now, where should I begin…
It’s a studio focused on the practice of hot yoga. When I went there the very first time, on a very cold winter day, they didn’t have HOT WATER for you to clean yourself after the class. They also don’t offer any sort of amenity — like cleaning wipes, plastic bags for your used clothes — most hot studios offer because, you know, hygiene.
I don’t like to go back home smelling like hot yoga. It didn’t leave a good impression. I came back for a second class, but still found the washroom sub-​par. Especially the shower stalls.
I’ve been to better studios, but will very likely come back because of the convenience of Moksha Uptown being located so close to my office.

TOO HOT. I have listed my complaints for easy reading:
1. A tiny room full of 40 people all hot and sweaty is not a pleasant «yogic» experience. Uptown needs to stop being a money machine and limit its class size to an appropriate amount for a HOT yoga class.
2. The receptionist is rude. He did not greet me — I had to greet him. I pointed to a room and asked him if that was where the class was. He said no. So I asked him where the class was. He said: studio 2. So I asked him where studio 2 was… etc. The guy is not hospitable and gave a bad first impression.
3. The people who come here… are not nice. Maybe its just the women but damn, is this high school again?!
4. It is TOO HOT. When the instructor is sweating buckets just standing there, it is TOO HOT.
The only good thing was actually my instructor, Steven. He was excellent. Also a chill guy with a soothing yoga voice.

I have been practicing here on and off for a couple of years. Last spring I did the 7-​week Living Your Moksha challenge (am doing it again this year) and went to early morning classes most days. Early classes are worth the wake up: Watch the sun rise in a room that’s less hot than it will be later in the day, as the heat hasn’t been on for long and there are fewer bodies in the room. I’ve done both hot and regular temperature classes and have been happy with all of them. Try the Restorative classes. They’re like nap time for adults, only you’re passively stretching while you nap.
I recently returned to a newly renovated studio after months away. The place is gorgeous with added practice rooms and more classes and instructors. The change room is quite big and there are lockers for which you can get a key (no extra charge).
Some students might not like that it’s usually the same series of postures each time. I sometimes like it, sometimes don’t, depending on my mood. I find comfort in knowing the poses and that I can self-​correct but, because I know the postures, I can also challenge myself in them in a whole other way. I can focus on some element either related to technique or breathing. I can stop thinking. Also, students’ practice will be different one day to the next.
Some instructors do deviate from the series a little bit. Again, sometimes I like that, sometimes I don’t.
With these studios, it’s best to find a class you like, and an instructor you like. If you’re new to the studio, try to take classes from a number of teachers. Among my favourites last year were Jess L., Matthew, and Sarah. If you’re new to hot yoga, try a 60 minute class. Even after 3 or so years of hot yoga, I find that 75 minutes in perfect. Many instructors will encourage you to lie in savasana or child’s pose if you need a break.
To those who visited awhile ago and had a negative experience, I’d suggest returning. Even in the last year they’ve improved. I liked it then, but I like it better now. Refer to my comments about the renovations, above. Also, try to have a good time. If you fall out of a pose, smile and try again. If you need to take a sip of water or a break, do it. This is your practice.
I’ve been to 3 Moksha studios and this is my favourite of the three. I’ve also been to a number of hot studios in the city and Moksha is my favourite.

This is one of the studios where I first picked up hot yoga. I remember thinking at the time that it was absolutely fabulous! Loved the atmosphere in the studio, thought the crammed, dark wood reception area was homey, and enjoyed the classes that made me sweat as I didn’t know I could.
Having been to many other studios around town now though, I’ve come to realize that while this studio has its homey charm, the reception area is much too small for the number of people that flow through. While amazing for business, the atmosphere in the front feels more claustrophobic then homey. The changerooms as other reviewers have mentioned is too small, and there are no lockers. There are 3 shower stalls in there, but with only one drain in the middle stall, so if you unwittingly go into that one, the wash water, sweat, dirt, soap suds, and other liquids from the other two side stalls will also flow through to your feet. Washroom facilities are outside the studio. ’nuff said about that.
Both the heated and unheated studio spaces are actually quite spacious. The moksha flow class I went to was incredibly hot. Towards the end of the class, the instructor opened the door a few times to let some air in. The instruction was ok. Didn’t feel that there were too many adjustments all around, but then it was a full class so maybe the instructor just didn’t have time.
Conveniently located by St Clair subway station.

Moksha Yoga Uptown is a nice little yoga studio. I love the location as it it right on Yonge Street surrounded with lovely stores and nice restaurants.
I do like the decoration of hardwood floor and dark wall and furniture. it does give a sense of warm and coziness to the reception area.
I do find it really strange that the change room provides shower facilities but not washroom facilities? Of course I was the one that freak Rana L out by suggesting that people do their business while taking showers :)
The class itself is one of the best Moksha class I took in any location. The instructor is really nice and friendly and try giving more personality to the usual routine Moksha class. She was great going around and checking and make sure we doing the poses right!
Advice: Hiding at the back is useless! Your instructor is going to go check on you regardless where you are! :)
The room is so hot! Insanely hot! Everyone was dripping in sweat. puddles of sweat on the floor. I could not even take photos because my lens all fogged up! I kind of a little gross out to step on other people sweat and even the carpet runner outside the practice room is soaked with sweat!
I do appreciate that Moksah Yoga Uptown do offer non heated classes! I think now they realize it is the way to go. Yoga is NOT just heated… too hot sometimes is not a good thing and it is good to give your clients more varieties in classes to keep them coming!

I give it a 2.5 or so.
The class was alright. The temperature was one of the hottest I’ve been in. It was a good hot experience though! Our instructor Nuisha (sp) was friendly & tried to make the class fun. She had us all in dolphin plank & we went around to say our name & fav animal! Too jokes :) I’ve never tried a Moksha class before but did feel some of the challenges along the way (long holds, etc.).
The dude at the front was not too helpful. I was joking with a fellow Unilocaler re: front desk that we have ‘smth to Unilocal about later’.
I love how there was a cold water fountain beside the sink the changeroom! :) There’s only one locker in the changeroom (bring a small lock). The rest of us will have to put our things in a shelf. Don’t leave anything important in there.
The shower… there’s 3 stalls. Please note only the middle stall has a drain! I had no idea until I was showering and wondering where all that water/​soap suds was coming from. Then I got paranoid & bolted asap in case someone beside me took a piss.
When we were about to go in… I could feel the sweat on the long rug in the hallway ozzing out… The studio room itself looked quite nice! It could fit up to approx 40 ppl.
