I’ve purchased items there but likely won’t anymore. Why not? First, you get followed. Yeah, I get that the store is small and in three rooms and that they need to ensure that their stuff doesn’t go missing. But really. They knew the space before they moved into it, so you’d think they’d have created one room. Or if they couldn’t perhaps they might have gotten a space where there was just one room. Second, not only do you get followed but you get commentary on anything you stand in front of. Sometimes attentive service is nice; but here it borders on the aggressive, since it seems that the clerk, since s/he has to follow you, is probably bored and feels that s/he might as well chat you up – which also serves to remind you that you’re being followed. Third, the prices are way too high. Do yourself a favour and look around before you commit to buy. Too late for me: I found an identical item a few weeks later that was $ 89 at MA Zone and $ 59 at another store. Caveat emptor.

I had been popping into Ma Zone for years, and have spent thousands in this shop. After years of spending on various décor items — pictures for a few hundred, a fruit basket for over $ 50, a stool for $ 200 — I went in last month and bought a $ 125 clock and $ 50 tissue holder to take to my place in Florida. At the time, I told the owner’s mother I would be bringing what I bought to Florida, and she assured me if there were problems even after the week given for a return, the store would help me. I opened the box(given to me at the store) about three weeks later and found the face of the clock had detached from the metal frame-stand. I asked the owner for a refund but he refused and rudely said it was policy to only give credits for a replacement within a week. He didn’t have a new clock in a box — he wanted to give me a clock that was sitting on the shelf for weeks and offered no refund or discount. After spending thousands there, he was not in the least bit understanding how I didn’t trust the quality of the clock. He threatened to call 911 and berated me and accused me of trying to get away with something. He threw a part of the broken clock onto the ground and told me either i take the clock on the shelf or I can wait for a new order that would take weeks. I was in tears so I took the clock on the shelf. He is one of the rudest shop owners I have ever encountered. And his mother earlier had been trying to convince me to hire him to help me design my Toronto condo. Don’t shop at this store — the owner degraded me and was rude to me and in front of his salesperson and a customer. He also has despicable people skills. The items are also way overpriced. I’d rather live in an empty home than ever go back to this shop.

This store has great gift and home items. The staff are great, very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about their products. It is organized by colour, which I love, being OCD about that kind of thing :) They have things you won’t find elsewhere. There are no big items, so it’s perfect for downtown condo living. I reccomend the store highly. The owner and staff love what they do so much that they wear white gloves to handle the merchandise! A neighbourhood gem.

MA Zone has been around for 14 years and is always fun to look around. They carry a selection of colourful home accessories — lots of kitchen stuff and nice gift items. This is the place to come for nice glassware and serving dishes, perfect for entertaining. Prices are midrange. They also have bags, jewellery, bathroom stuff, and cards. If you are looking for a unique gift, this is a great place, and they will gift wrap it for you(complete with fancy papers and ribbons!).
