I hate giving poor reviews, but based on their humorous sign saying«Walkens Welcome» and their voicemail message saying they’re open Sunday 11 – 4, I thought It would be great to come here and get a cut and maybe a colour if available. Sadly, false advertising got the best of me and they are CLOSED. It’s Sunday at 2:25. I won’t be returning.

I decided to try Kocata after moving to the area and I read the other Unilocal reviews. I have to agree that this Salon is one of the best kept secrets in midtown Toronto. I have been coming to Sarah for about 4 months now. She is kind, professional, and has been very understanding in helping me transition to a different hair style.

In town visiting from the states and needed an emergency wash, cut and blow dry. Julia met me with a smile and proceeded to do a great job on my hair! Great service at a very reasonable price. Didn’t push products… just took care of my hair! Highly recommend!!!

This salon is quite possibly the best kept secret in midtown. I have been coming to Sarah for my cut and color for years now, and am never disappointed. She listens to what I ask for, knows my style well, and tells me what the most flattering looks are for my face, so I trust her suggestions when it comes to my hair, which I am very particular about. The other stylists are incredibly talented, too. I pop in for blow drys frequently, and have had both Lynn and Julia for this service. Straight, curly, pinned up, or let down these girls have it covered. If I’m getting ready for a date, special occasion, or just as a pick me up on a bad day Kocata Salon is a cheerful, comfortable place to go relax, enjoy good company and conversation, and get beautified for a very reasonable price.

I just moved to the area and decided to give Kocata a try. I like my hair short as I have a head-full of thick, stiff and wavy hair and it looks like a broom if not managed properly. My hair stylist was Lynn and she did a great job giving me exactly the hair cut I asked for(I showed her multiple pictures of the kind of hair I want as I’ve had bad experience before w/o pictures). The vibe is very laid-back and the place is squeaky-clean(they disinfect all their brush, scissors ect after each use… rare to see even in higher end salon). Highly recommended!

SARAHCANCUTCURLYHAIR!!! …No, seriously, she can. And she does it awfully well. Having had a number of terrible experiences with hairdressers who suck at curly hair, Sarah is currently one of only two people in the world who I will allow to cut mine. I’ve been going to her for a number of years now, and I’ve never been disappointed. She’s very good at listening and giving you the cut that you want, but at this point I usually just tell her to do whatever she’d like, cause it always turns out fantastic. I love this whole place, including the Brave New Girl massage/aesthetics studio in the back. It’s all friendly and laid-back, but they also really know what they’re doing. I’d recommend it to anyone, but especially curly-haired folks – and extra-especially if it’s short curls, and therefore extra easy to screw up. Sarah will make it better!

I went to Kocata after purchasing a voucher from Dealicious. It included wash, cut, colour, and blowdry. As soon as I walked into the salon, there was a big dog there(walking around). I am not only scared, but also allergic to dogs. Although I mentioned my concerns to the stylist + the owner MORE than once, I felt like they didn’t take me seriously and did not fully accomodate me. It was the most uncomfortable experience I ever had. I was constantly paranoid(& jumpy!) that the dog was going to come near me(let’s face it, no one wants to be exposed to allergens). They did take the dog out for 2 short walks, however, that kept the dog away for like 30mins. My appointment took 2.5 hours. My stylist was nice and friendly — she did a decent job on my hair colour. My hair cut was okay(i’ve had better), and the blow dry was less than average.

I recently went to kocata after finding a deal on deal radar. I had Julia(I think? She had pink hair). She was awesome! I’ve spent upwards of $ 200 on getting my hair done and I prefer this place. Julia listened to what I wanted, I asked her to keep as much of the length as possible and that’s exactly what she did. She cut bit by bit to make sure too much wouldn’t be cut off. I also got highlights and she did such an amazing job! The color is even and not brassy. She made sure I got the color I wanted. I would definitely come back here. The only negative is parking is hard to find.

I went there after i purchased a daily deal from Dealicious. When i arrived to the salon, I was greeted immediately and they came to take my coat away. My hair stylist is a girl named Julia who is extremely nice and friendly. I told them that I had purchased the deal online for a full head of highlights and a haircut. She asked me what I was looking for so I specified that I wanted thin highlights with two different shades. She proceeded to put the highlights in using foil. My highlights turned out really amazing. I told her I needed a trim only and maybe some layers at the bottom. She trimmed my hair and put in some layers at the back. I also told her my bangs needed trimming. The bangs were a bit of a struggle to communicate what I wanted but at last, she was able to cut it to my satisfaction. They only charged me tax on top of the deal which came to $ 4. I gave a $ 15 tip. so in total i spent $ 55 for a cut and highlights. The salon itself is not the most modern state of the art fancy yorkville salon. Its modest but clean. The staff are all extremely friendly. They even made me a green tea while I was waiting and gave me some magazines to read. The service at this place is amazing. My highlights and haircut turned out great. You just have to know what to ask for and be very specific on what you want done. My hair stylist Julia listened to everything I wanted and did exactly what was requested. They also give free bang trims if you are a regular customer.
