Specialties
It can be said that Taiwan is home to the best street food markets in the world. From the infamous night markets of Raohe to Shihlin, culture and food enthusiasts flock to take in the sights, sounds, smells and flavours. A melting pot of culinary delights derived from historical Taiwanese influences of Japan, regions of Mainland China and Hakka-style, the markets are a landing spot for the ultimate epicurean mash-up.
Kanpai delivers the same flavours to the historical neighbourhood of Cabbagetown in downtown Toronto, one of the most exciting cities in the world. Our focus is a menu laden with exciting XIAOCHI or «small plates» from wok-fried delights to our signature TFC, the Kanpai experience will be unique and first of its kind in Toronto.
And what of the name «Kanpai?» An oft-used Japanese term used in Taiwan but derived from Putonghua or Mandarin represents «Bottoms Up!» (sometimes as Kampai or Gan Bei). Our guests’ experience would not be complete without the ultimate bar program which is a tribute to local craft producers and the love of artisanal-designed cocktails. Craft beer, hand-crafted cocktail creations, as well as wine, sake and feature cocktails «on-tap» will be a prominent part of the experience.
Our people, our food, our drinks, our neighbourhood. When Taipei meets Toronto, Kanpai happens. Eat often, eat well and wash it down with something good.
History
Established in 2015.
Three partners with steeped tradition and experience around food service on multiple levels loved the energy behind the Taiwanese food culture. They also believed that Toronto deserved a piece of this… and then Kanpai Snack Bar was morn #TaiwanTO
