This was a fun class. I got a Groupon and tried 2 classes there. One of them was a weekend bootcamp class which involved a 45 minute run outside, followed by floor stretches. Then I tried another class where it was solely jumping to upbeat music(think zumba with kangoo boots). The kangoo boots are heavy and you need some getting used to at first. After the run, none of my joints ached at all! Kangoo is a great workout, but after the second session I was already a little bored. The novelty wore off fast.

Tired of running? Of being in the gym for way too long and way too little results? Then, I suggest you meet with Dorina(kangoo instructor extraordinaire) and get your sweat on. I have been doing martial arts for many years, and when I saw people jumping around like bunnies and dying, I thought they were all faking it. How wrong I was! First time I put the kangoo boots on, 2 things happened; first I unleashed the inner Teeger in me, and second, I realized my cardio needed improvement! Since that first time, about 2 years ago, I have been addicted to kangoo. It is actually really fun to jump at the rhythm of cool music. Because of the music, it definitely has that aerobic feel but it actually depends on the instructors. Some are more 80’s style, while others do more fighting style classes. Either way, that one hour on the boots is like a 2 hour run… minus the joint pain. I have bad knees because of years of getting them kicked at, and i have no problem with kangoo, so it is a great alternative for those with joint limitations. Dorina and her crew offer classes all over town, pretty much everyday, and have a variety of style of classes. I suggest you try one and see if you like the bouncing. Worst come to worst, you will get a killer work out, and at best, you will become addicted like most people who get the boots on.

Okay, let me just fitness-geek out for a second here. I saw the poster for a rebound shoes fitness class at the gym and my thought process went like this: kangaroo shoes? That looks bizarre… must… try!!! Always happy to be the canary in a fitness coal mine, and in this case, I struck gold. In Kangoo Jumps class you hop like a bunny, grin like a goof and sweat like a hog, but with none of the usual impacts of high-intensity exercise on your legs or back. To start out, you can teeter around tentatively and gradually work up toward really getting your bounce on. I am serious about my exercise, and I’ll note for fellow gym bunnies that I wore my heart rate monitor last night to Jumps class and got the same workout as P90X Plyometrics(which Tony says«puts the X in P90X») with waaaaayyyy less impact. Picture ski boots with a stable, springy base that you can wear when you jog, skip or run stairs.(You probably can’t really picture them, which is why you should just try it.) Kangoo Jumps has been around a long time in Australia and Europe but is just getting started in North America. Dorina, the Messiah of Bounce, is a cute and funny Hungarian-Torontonian hopping from gym to gym with a car-full of rebound shoes. She’s giving out free passes to try the classes, so you’ve got nothing to lose except body fat and maybe a little dignity.
