Junjun is the one sushi joint you can always count on being open late at night when you’ve got a case of the Japanese-specific munchies. The closing hours as specified in the store front say 3am on weekends, but I’ve definitely been there later. The extra high walled booths provide utmost privacy for groups up to six(comfortably). If you’re going to be gossiping away and recapping the night’s worst outfits though, just keep in mind that the booths are not sound proof! The prices are more than fair and the food is a-okay. The best deals are bento boxes that come with a whack of food. A large number of maki($ 6+) are worth sampling. I tried the assorted vegetable tempura($ 4.25) for the first time and would not recommend it though. Regardless of your meal choice, the guava candy that comes with the bill will definitely leave a sweet taste in your mouth and a smile on your face.

Everyone I know who is from a small town has the story of the first time they came to Toronto(or Vancouver, or Montréal-any big city) and tried sushi. I, like many ignorant to the tastes of exotic foods, was weary on trying it.(Keep in mind, where I come from, trying sushi is a very big deal!) I grew up on very traditional Scandinavia cooking, which I loved, Mom, but my experiences in culinary creativity or experiences were severely lacking. That is, until the day I tried sushi at Junjun Restaurant. And yes, I didn’t know how to use my chopsticks properly and had to kind of stab the sushi, but, hey-it worked! Perhaps it’s because Junjun holds a special place in my heart and memory that I like it so much, but it is(now that I’ve actually had my fair share of sushi) a decent sushi bar that has all the basics for an enjoyable meal.
