«IT’S A MIRACLE!» That’s what I thought on the second day after the operations, one eye a day for two days. The cataracts had crept up on me so gradually that I literally did not know what I was missing, sight-wise. I was already night-blind, driving only on well-lit streets. But not day-blind. Two years ago I went to an optometrist for a revised prescription for reading glasses. On examination he referred me to Herzig for evaluation. With great trepidation I signed up for cataract surgery on both eyes. You need to choose the type of lenses; I opted for both lenses rendering 20⁄20 distance vision. No glasses for driving. I require reading glasses for any up-close vision from reading to smartphone to cutting my toenails. The other choice: did I wait months for a medicare funded job with inferior implants or pay up for the best implants installed immediately? I did the latter; to my surprise my extended health plan paid much of it. Dr. Herzig did the operations. There was no discomfort. After only two days I was singing«On a clear day you can see forever.» The world was bright and new and shiny.

A bit long of a wait time, but the service was professional and everyone was courteous. This was just my first visit there for a consultation, so I have yet to undergo the procedure, which I am contemplating to do this winter.
