Sigh. I use to live right by this lounge/bar for almost two years and I never went. In the summer, my date and I decided to check it out since we both were curious about it. It was a weeknight and not busy at all. There was only a few patrons but the service was less than stellar. Waiter service, that didn’t even try and get a second round from us. Snotty and unimpressed was our impression. You’re better off grabbing a drink somewhere else along Harbord or walking up to Bloor to an array of choice.

AWFUL. Dark as din and completely empty(went on a Tuesday but still). There’s mood lighting and there’s trying to save on hydro. Cramped and uncomfortable. Extremely limited selection. Slow service which was ridiculous considering we were the only table. Got one drink and left.

Happened upon Charlie’s Gallery when we missed the last minute notice that the CMYE party for October’s 30-in-30 challenge had moved to Lab Lounge. We arrived to a nice lounge space and even though the party had moved elsewhere, we decided to stay for a drink. We grabbed seats at the bar and bottles of Stella($ 7). Owners and the were super friendly and happy to chat. There was a bit of a mix up in the plans for the CMYE, but we still had a nice time here before we left to find the rest of the Unilocal gang. I’m not in the Harbord area too often but glad that I got to check out Charlie’s.

Charlie’s Gallery was a hair salon on Harbord for 30 years until the Iranni family decided they’d close the corner spot and rent it out. They got a good offer from Starbuck’s but their daughter, Charlene, convinced them to let her along with her brother, Arius, use the space as a gallery for upcoming talent. There has been some great support and buzz around it in the press and on the street. They promote mostly through facebook, and there is no phone number, but it’s one of those places high on charm you just can’t help but support. Charlene is usually at the Gallery which is open 1PM-8PM daily. the art is affordable and unique.
