Bonga Buldak

Food is pretty much meh but the service is quite awful. It took them 20 minutes to get me a coke, forgot to tell me they ran out of coke in the first place. Staff is also pretty rude

I recommend you don’t eat here. Owner lady was extremely rude. We had dinner before stopping here to buy some late night snack and tolder her that we weren’t planning on buying that much. Once she heard this, her attitude changed and became very rude and it showed on her face. When our order was ready we asked for more bags of radish pickle. The owner refused and only gave us 1. (It used to be unlimited under the previous owner.)
This place has really gone downhill since the owner changed several years ago. Avoid!

For the price you pay, ok food…
BUT! I was expecting Buldak as in Korean Buldak spicy level… I was wrong… This thing taste nothing like Buldak you will eat in Korea… NOT AT ALL SPICY
Aside that, rating the taste itself? taste alright,. Not bad, but not good either.

Over priced. No spicy food made. You can ask for something they call spicy, not even close. Ordered bulgogi and I got a few pieces of beef and a third of rice. Was not offered any of the condiments that make Korean food tasty. Like radish, kimchi, cucumber etc. The only good thing from this experience was they had my brand of domestic beer. Not even Korean beer. Of an the table was dirty where I sat. Really really really disappointed. I’ll stay at Christie and bloor from now on.

Woke up hungover on this Wednesday and was craving something soupy and spicy. Since Bonga Buldak is located across the street it was the perfect option. When I probed through the menu the only soups listed were the chicken noodle and the pork bone. I asked the server if they had a kimchee soup and they did, it just isn’t listed on the menu.
The server/​son-​of-​the-​chef assured me that his mother’s recipe is quite authentic. And it was. Kimchee, lettuce, pork, soft tofu, shiitake mushrooms swimming in a hot red pepper broth was good and the perfect food to snap me out of my «morning after» shakes.
This wasn’t the best, nor the worst. My favourite still goes to Buk Chang Dong Soon To Fu in the Annex.

I should totally overzealously endorse this place with a fervent unhealthy bias since it’s Korean-​owned & operated & I’m of (as far as I know) MOSTLY Korean ancestry & parentage but it was a total scam. I cannot tolerate spicy food yet their food wasn’t spicy enough even for my wimpy-​assed taste buds. My spice assassin sister was understandably peeved beyond comprehension. The Pork, Squid, Chicken sauté was highway robbery at $ 18.99. No hibachi (arrived at our table already plated with no char-​grill lines– for all I care it could have been microwaved as the squid was overcooked to a tough Doc Martens shoe level of unchewability), no side dishes, no rice, not saucy enough for mixing rice into ANYWAY… Honestly, WTH? For almost $ 20 before tip I expected extras & a little effort towards common courtesy/​ingenuity/​creativity or cute attempt at any type of garnish whatsoever (even the lowly sesame seeds, diced scallions or seaweed flakes) to secure a return visit in the future. I sorely wanted to give them the chance to redeem themselves. My standards are not that high & I was too hungry to give a damn. However, the wait staff were very inattentive & I had to call them 3 – 4 times to refill my glass of water & for the bill. I still can’t get over how oily our order was! I was cheating on my diet but I didn’t want to downright tank it (like I did that night). I will never get over how bad their sauce was. Half-​assed ddeokbokki sauce I make in a hungry panicked stupor tastes a billion times better. Should I open a restaurant? UGH! Ghastly. Appalling. Do not know what the hype is about. Who recommended this place to me & why in the bloody blazes of hell did I go?

I tried the buldak (lunch/​dinner combo 2 at $ 6.99) here at Buldak. I like my fair share of spicy food so I can understand if someone else finds it too spicy. The chicken was really tender and was delicious but the rice it came with was not good. It was just marinated with a bit of sesame oil and soy sauce. Considering the chicken-​to-​rice ratio was about 20% to 80%, it was a bit of a disappointment.
That said, you can tell a good Korean restaurant by the number of Koreans that eat there… so I will be returning for the other dishes!

This place is the most authentic korean i have been, in the downtown core. Sure theres korean grill every couple of blocks but they are definitely not authentic i find that they are in theory but taste it is so much different. Korean food is mainly spicy and here you will find really spicy fire chicken which in korean is called bonga buldak sans the place’s name. Aside from that ttokbokki (pronounced tapuki) is really good nicely cooked and flavorful. The general appeal of the store is a basic family run looking place, not the fanciest decoration but specially at night they play korean music video and the place is flocked with young korean students. Me and my boyfriend frequent the place and are known by face by the owner (i believe). Service is nice and people are pretty attentive. Price is good as well and you can have a dinner with a side menu for around 25 for two people.

This place claims to have spicy food, but if your a true spicy food lover this is far from it. Its for those who think frank’s red hot regular is too hot to handle lol. I gave this place a second chance after my first bad experience, but I will never go back after what happened the second time around.
The first time i went i ordered the blazing chicken. Nothing was blazing about it. there was lots of fat and bones still in my chicken which i found unappealing. If it looks boneless on the menu keep it that way. Just the texture is not my cup of tea and i shouldn’t be biting on little bones in my food-​gross.
the second time was last night, we were kinda hungry and it was late and this place is open till 2 on Sundays. I ordered sweet and sour fried chicken basically breaded chicken you dip in sauce, with rice. I pointed to on the menu and he looked at it. The server brings me out some shrimp dish. When I told him this isn’t what i ordered he acts like he doesn’t get what I’m saying, when i know he did. i told him that i didn’t want to eat it and that i want the dish i ordered and i pointed to it on the menu about 3 times and said (i was very polite though despite how i sound here lol) 10 mins later he brings out the same dish he gave me before but with chicken. This is not what i ordered but at that point i was so hungry cause we had already been there for 25 mins i ate it anyways. I told him it was the wrong dish again and he just smiled and was «oh ok».
I used to work in a restaurant and when stuff like that would happen, which was rare you would eff up 2 times in a row, which was a very RARE case for anyone, they would either get a discount or get it for free, and I’m not cheap but that’s bad for business when you do nothing for your customer after you messed up. I wouldn’t recommend this place for anyone.
