Now I have seen two performances here I feel comfortable to write a review about the space. The staff is friendly and helpful when I had a chance to deal with them Seating is comfy and from what I could tell not a bad seat in the house. My pick is a seat somewhere in middle rows as the stage goes way back and one would have a hard time following all the elements if seated up front. The acoustics were good and the stage seems to have diverse settings as the two performances I saw had an extreme range. A spartan sound stage for first(Harper Regan) to Multimedia(Needles and Opium). The close proximity to the TTC and food spots is also a boon. A nice cozy space to enjoy a performance.

We saw Molly Parker in Harper Regan on Saturday night. Fabulous performance by the cast… A difficult play in some ways but well mounted and played. An enjoyable evening.

When I worked at Canadian Stage( ), part of my job was going to see theatre, and specifically, plays in our theatre. This way, when people ask us about the show, we would be able to tell them how good it was, how painful it was, or how it compared to other theatre in the city. Not a bad job to have. Whenever Canadian Stage put anything on the big stage, they did so in the St. Lawrence Centre( ), at the Bluma Appel theatre, the largest of the two theatres in the St. Lawrence Centre. With a large main floor, large balcony, and boxes available, the Bluma Appel theatre is a great venue with acoustics to match. Musicals and dramas alike are performed here in a great facility. Regardless whether the show is great or crap, at least they’re playing on a decent stage. With no obstructions or posts to hinder the view, the crowd is able to see and hear everything that goes on the stage. That may be a good thing or a bad thing depending upon the show, obviously. Just know that when you get tickets for the Bluma Appel theatre, you’ll be able to blame a post for the reason you did and enjoy the show.
