This Is Rustic Elegance on Nature’s Edge…
The Wickaninnish Inn, a member of the international Relais & Châteaux association, is an inviting haven of comfort on the rugged west coast of Vancouver Island, by Tofino. Nestled between the expanse of the Pacific Ocean and the ancient rainforests of Vancouver Island, the Inn’s red cedar, hand-adzed by local carvers, evokes a warmth and calm compelling a legion of return guests year after year.
Anchored on the jagged rocks overlooking scenic Chesterman Beach, and adjacent to the Pacific Rim National Rim Park Reserve, the Wickaninnish Inn offers the perfect retreat for romantics, nature lovers, or those wishing to escape to a place of natural wonder — and pampering! Guests enjoy an enchanting combination of wilderness, award-winning regional cuisine, exquisite guest rooms and serene Ancient Cedars Spa.
An award-winning retreat, locally inspired cuisine, and soothing Ancient Cedars Spa await you on nature’s edge.
History
Established in 1996.
The Wickaninnish Inn story began in January 1955 when Dr. Howard McDiarmid first moved to Tofino and assumed responsibility for the Tofino General Hospital. Over the years, he recognized the unique nature of the area and was instrumental in the creation of the Pacific Rim National Park Reserve in 1971.
Inspired by their parents’ foresight, the McDiarmid family joined with a group of long-time Tofino residents to make the vision a reality. The vision was realized in August of 1996 with the opening of the new Wickaninnish Inn and its Pointe Restaurant. The natural appeal of Tofino as a destination and the quality experience provided by the Inn brought a steady growth in Canadian and international visitors, particularly after the opening of Ancient Cedars Spa in 1998. To fulfill its long-term plans and meet growing demand, the Inn added its ‘On-the-Beach’ building in July 2003.
