Shelter Restaurant

Stopped in for a Valentine’s day lunch. The place was quiet, but that was probably due to the time we were there (shortly after 1 pm). The place was packed when we drove past it the previous evening.
The place is warm and inviting, especially on a cold wet day. The cook welcomed us in from the kitchen and told us to sit anywhere.
Our server was friendly and helpful, bringing us water right away (served in clear white wine bottles, a neat idea) along with our menus. My wife ordered a salmon burger and I had fish and chips (not having had them in a long time, I was in the mood for them). I also ordered their chowder to start.
While the plate holding the bowl was room temperature, the bowl was extremely hot, and I nearly burned myself when I touched it. Our server didn’t give us a heads-​up about it. Nevertheless, the chowder tasted terrific, so much that I ended up asking for a second spoon so I could share it with my wife.
The salmon burger was amazing — very juicy, with slices of white radish (we think) on the bottom for a bit of zip. The fish and chips were the best I’d had in a long time, but considering the burger and the chowder, I was wishing by the end that I’d ordered something a little less conventional, if only to see what else they do with their food.
Definitely recommended.

Great food, beautiful views and friendly staff. My wife and I ate at Shelter twice over the holidays while visiting Tofino and had great service, drinks and food each time. We tried a bunch of stuff; the tuna stack, salmon burger, winter vegetable salad, chicken wings to name a few. It was all delicious
They have a great outdoor area with some fire features that kept us warm, even though it was freezing outside. Worth a stop while your visiting!

This place is a «must try» around Tofino. Great service, easy and convenient location, well done food.
I tried Meares Island Chowder. Very tasty chowder with salmon in it. It comes with delicious toasted bread. The burger was good as well, but I suggest going for other than burger.
The location is great and the restaurant is incredibly cozy with warm fireplaces close to people’s table. Just love it.

4 stars for service and atmosphere. We had a great night here. Food was good nothing incredible, octopus was the star dish. Mussels were good lots of broth and good meaty mussels. The fries that came with were not good at all On the plus side there were only about 10 fries. Rib eye was very fatty and no sear or texture to it all. Tasted like it came straight out of the sous vide and onto the plate. Mash potatoes were awesome. Tuna tartare was tasty but very little tuna and way way to much avocado and sauce. Great location and deck. The covered heated deck is also handy. I would like to give this place another shot. The Aussie host did amazing job on a very busy NYE. It was chaos in there and he handled it like a pro. Our server was amazing too. She even got us a round of drinks to make up
For the madness.

Herrliche Athmossphäre am Abend mit Gasfackeln. Burger sind zu empfehlen. Die Heizpilze Sorgen dafür, dass man es auch abends gut draußen aushält. Auch innen sehr gelungen!
