Tisol Pet Nutrition & Supply Store

By far the best pet store in Richmond. Wonderfully helpful staff with a great selection of dog food as supplies too. We always get their Red Dog Blue Kat raw food for our dog and she loves it! I also love that if your dog doesn’t like the treats or food you buy, you can exchange and they donate the unused product to the local animal shelter. Very cool!

I have been coming to this Richmond store for nearly 20 years now and all I can say it that it just gets better with the staff they have. Recently I met Julia who is new there and I was blown with the knowledge that she has on cats. Since I have two very expensive cats I make sure that they only have the best for their well being. Julia knew exactly how I felt on buying only the right food for my Mr & Mrs cat. She took the time to explain her reviews on cat products for their well being. She was dead on when I asked her a couple of question on items in the store that I have always bought in the past. She knows her stuff that for sure. I will always be coming back as I have in the 20 or so years that I have been here.

It’s my first time go to a pet store for my new family member little kitty. I was absolutely lost about buying all the stuffs that I will need. So I brought my kitty their and asked one of the staff for help. She is really nice and definitely a cats expert. She said my new kitty is too underweighted in her age and gave me suggestions on how to taking care of her. Not a while I got everything I need for the cutie. Now she is growing and healthy. I really appreciated with the help and would like to say thumb up Christine!

I love this Tisol location. The staff is very knowledgable and friendly. They understand the importance of wet/​raw food for cats and wouldn’t push us to purchase unnecessary stuff. What’s more, they also have unbeatable prices in terms of canned food (I compared prices from different chain pet stores). I’d recommend this location to anyone!

The only pet store I go to!

This location is fantastic and by far one of my top pet food stores that I like to frequent. The staff is always friendly and helpful without being pushy and they have a great selection.
I noticed in another review someone was complaining about the prices, but to be honest this store has much lower prices than any other pet chain and even Mr. Pets (at least for the items I buy on a regular basis).

I would have given this store 5 stars, but for its recent large price hikes on several foods. I have always greatly respected Tisol for its fair pricing (competitive with American pricing), friendly staff, and great selection. Their competitive pricing had lead me to happily spend money there on extra items, and had assured me as a loyal customer.
However, a price hike from 1.89 to 2.19 on EVO cat food is outrageous. Their Innova has undergone a similar hike, I believe it was previously 1.69 and is now 1.99 and I believe others foods I did not keep as close an eye on have also gone up in price. These foods were previously the harder to find 13 oz tins (many companies only make 5.5 oz tins) that are also high quality but a moderate price.
I can’t abide by such an increase. I will be purchasing other food, and maybe shopping elsewhere, I can at least expect them not to have such price jumps, and to go in hand with their now similarly priced food to every other pet store, I have little reason to boast about Tisol to friends and coworkers.
There ARE cheaper chain stores to shop at for EVO and Innova, and likely other foods as well. The price difference is significant. I won’t name names.
EDIT: Tisol contacted me, saying the pet food company had raised prices so they had to as well. I would have ended it at that and said fair enough… but it doesn’t end there.
For the record, the dog versions of EVO have identical ingredients to the cat food.
Regarding an issue I had raised in this review about price differences between EVO cat and dog food, they said that the dog food being listed cheaper was a mistake and raised the price. Nice. In other words, a customer has to point out their mistakes? This does not explain why for at least several months beforehand, the dog food was 2.09 and the cat food 1.89, and when they go to raise prices to 2.19 across the board … they apparently mistakenly only raise the cat food. They only matched their prices at 2.19 AFTER my review.
My fault? Apparently, they want me to think so… but I don’t think they’d have made such a mistake. I think they’re only doing this to cover up the fact that they’d been charging different rates before and had to do damage control from my review. It’s that, or accepting the fact that they are disorganized to the point that they make significant pricing mistakes on their food… I believe a chain store has more business smarts than that.

I love this store!
As a proud new owner of the cutest furball everrr, I had a difficult time looking for good quality cat food. A patient and colleague with pets suggested this place. Funny how I live fairly close but never noticed it before (it’s located in a stripmall, in front of the Lansdowne Mall, along No. 3). So far, I’ve been there twice and each time I left happy.
Their prices are fair.
I bought Royal Canin 3.5 lb bags for 21 Cdn + tax (noticed in amazon, it retailed for 23.39 usd).
What I really like though is the staff.
Everybody I’ve met was not only super nice, but also gives you the impression that they really like to work at the store.
Plus, they know their stuff!
Last time I went, I had some questions with regards to the frozen raw food of venison & rabbit I just purchased. The staff member I talked to had all the answers and even told me that I should put a 12 hour gap between feeding my kitty –the raw food, & canned/​dry food because the feline body digests them differently… Thumbs up for that!
This is my go-​to pet store now. :)

While this Tisol store isn’t close to my home, I frequently make it a point to stop by this specific store when I’m in the area. You can’t beat the customer service here and I really like their pricing, especially on some of the high-​quality cat food they carry.
The store really grew on me when my husband and I were planning on bringing home a new kitten. The staff member I talked with on more than one visit was extremely knowledgeable about well… everything! I had questions ranging from cat food to litter to toys, and his recommendations were really spot-​on. Our kitten is now growing like a weed, her recent vet checkup was perfect, and she’s really enjoying the toys suggested to us.
I really appreciate the knowledge that the staff has and that while they’ll explain a lot about the benefits of each thing you’re looking at, they are never pushy at all. They leave the final decision up to you! They’ve made some very happy customers out of us for sure.

I’ve tried a number of pet supply stores over the years but I always go back to Tisol; in fact, I try to go to this particular one in Richmond. The staff are consistently friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. And on many occasions they have carried my heavy purchases to my car and deposited them in the trunk for me. The selection of items is excellent … for cats, anyway … and prices are competitive. When my cat died awhile back, they even took back and refunded my left over cat litter (I had just opened it but not used much). Amazing, I think! Now that I have another kitty, I always go to this Tisol to shop for her!

On the few occasions I have come into this store the staff was very friendly and helpful. The only downfall is that they don’t carry a very large stock of parrot food or items. I wish they did because I would shop here more often!

I come here all the time to get the usual supplies for my Havanese and American short-​hair cat. I love the service I get from their knowledgable staff and they always have helpful suggestions regarding nutrition and won’t just push the most expensive stuff to you. They carry top of the line foods from Champion (Acana and Orijin) and have a great selection of Kongs and toys for your furry friends!
As well, like all Tisols, they have the frequent buyer program for bags of food.
As a bonus, this store now opens til 9pm during the weekdays! Great for when I get off from work late.
