Mr Lube

Worst experience I’ve ever had at a mechanic shop. Trying to tell me that I needed a transmission flush when I just had a flush 2 weeks ago!!! DO NOT GO HERE, Terrible service, pushy sales people, terrible attitude and try to up sell everything. Never ever going back again!

If I could go give no stars I would, but too bad.
This is my first car and I brought it in to get the oil changed.
The thing is, they overfilled the oil and actually spilled it everywhere. I asked if that would be a problem, but he said it was fine and that he would clean it up. I drive it to work and it’s fine for a bit but the engine starts shaking and it doesn’t sound right. Sure enough, the engine light turns on. After awhile we find out the problem is with the engine oil and actually pump out a pretty big amount of oil. Even worse is that the oil has gotten into some of the cylinders.
Bad customer service, inexperienced workers who don’t know what they’re doing or at least don’t pay enough attention to actually measure out the amount of oil or fix their mistakes. I’m not even sure if there has been any extra damage but I’m definitely going to be learning how to do my oil changes myself.
Never going back to Mr. Lube and also telling everyone I know to never go to them either.

Being lured by a crappy free coffee and a free paper. They try and get you to buy things you don’t need. A kid to be about 17 tried to tell me that my Tranny oil was expired — and my filter needed this. When I hesitated because it was going to cost me over $ 350 he told me they would give me 10% off and a free filter… umm, I am sorry when did car maintenance become a bargaining issue. Wont go back and will wait for mcdonalds free coffee ;)

I visited your Richmond, BC location a few weeks ago. I had the worst experience ever!
I have always visited the one in Vancouver and never had any bad experience; however, this location really sucks.
1. The staff gave me the wrong direction and I scratched the bottom of my car.
2. Staff member told me about the problems I have with the transmission fluid and I specifically asked him to hold on the service as I wanted to call a family member to consult first. After I finished the phone call, he told me he had drained the fluid and now I will have to pay to get it refilled and pay $ 129.99. I was really upset and he offered a discount on the transmission fluid change, but I refused. Finally, he said he will not charge me for the change.
3. I called before I visited the shop and asked about the 15% discount on engine oil change. But at check out, they gave me $ 5 off which was wrong. I told the staff that it should be $ 7.80 off not $ 5.00. He then changed it to $ 7.00. It just shows how easy it is for staff to over-​write and make up prices as they please. There is zero internal control and bad customer service.
4. I brought all my complaints to the manager before I left as it really bothers me that a big brand like Mr. Lube would do such a thing. The manager and I went over the whole thing and put a note in my customer file saying that «confirm with customer before performing any service». I found it ridiculous, should not this be a standard protocol? You explain the service and clearly give a quote before performing a service.
I will never visit this location/​Mr. Lube again.

Been to a few Mr. Lube, I find the experience varies from location to location. This location has relatively average to good service, unfortunately they also try hard to up sell you with things, which I can understand. However, while they did that, they forgot to reset my oil change signal.

I think im actually quite lucky igot pretty good service last time i went. Free wifi free newspaper. Free hot drinks. Service was great polite knowlegable. Its my first time going there. A little too expensive tho.

I give this location 0 stars. My wife went there and was treated horribly. They talked down to her and left her nears tears.
I had sworn off this location due to bad service years ago, but my wife gave them another chance.

I’ve been going to Mr. Lube regularly since 1998 when I bought my first car, but never again! Went to get my usual oil change and as a regular customer I’m used to the whole upsell thing. But today’s experience was just outright dishonest. The fellow (I wish I got his name!) brings me two white cards and begins to tell me my automatic transmission fluid is at a «critical point». He shows one card that has bright pink fluid on it and tells me this is what the fluid is supposed to look like. He then shows me the other card that has fluid on it that looks nearly black. He tells me that is my cars fluid. I ask how much a transmission fluid change is and he says it will be $ 129.99 but, hey, it only takes 10 minutes to do! Luckily I told him I’d think about it. But he pushes me about damage to my transmission, blah, blah, blah. I almost cave but I politely tell him no thanks.
After this I go to my regular mechanic and tell him about the fluid issue. My mechanic goes out to my car with me and we pull out the transmission fluid dipstick and wipe it on a piece of white paper-​towel and low and behold — it’s more or less bright pink! My mechanic then tells me this is a regular «scam» by quickie oil change places. They MIX transmission fluid and old oil to make you think that your cars transmission is about to seize up. Sorry Mr. Lube — you just lost a regular customer and hopefully you lose more after this kind of crap.

They ripped me off. Said they would give a discount, then «forgot». I asked for the standard package and they sold me the premium. Tried to get me to change my transmission fluid (for another $ 85) at 100,000 km when the factory service maintenance schedule does not call for it until 192, 000 km. Dishonest. Avoid.

Ok, so I thought I’d had all the standard Mr Lube experience had to offer.
Standard service. Oil change, newspaper, check your this ‘n that, turn your head and rev, give your undercarriage the how’s-your-father. Then pretend you’re approving an expensive bottle of red wine when they display your dipstick, pay the man and leave.
I usually buy my own oil filter and oil at a discount price in the States. A jug of synthetic oil costs me about $ 22, while the same is about $ 50+ at retail price in Vancouver. A full synthetic oil change normally costs around $ 90. By buying my own oil and filter, I can take advantage of Mr Lube’s $ 27 ‘customer oil’ change price, bringing the total cost to around $ 55. I could take my car to a number of places to perform this basic service. Several shops can do this for around the same price, but I like the no-​appointment, drive-​in, drive-​out style. And they’re open on weekends and at better hours than most service centres and dealers.
At this shop in Richmond, one evening, the standard oil change turned into a great service experience. The technician started by giving me recommendations of which synthetic oil brands and weight to buy for Audi and where to look for the best deals. He suggested I pick up a few extra skid plate bolts for the next visit because a couple were missing and a new skid plate would cost a fortune if it fell off. After a discussion of how great my wheels are (stating the obvious), he also mentioned that the typical synthetic oil change interval does not need to be 5000kms as is (and was) usually printed on the windshield sticker, but rather 8000kms, so he adjusted it. Some research I did online following my visit confirmed his recommendation. Yes to getting a drive-​thru honest opinion and a free lesson.
Before this Mr Lube visit I would have docked a star from the review because the franchise recently decided to not offer free fluid top-​ups between oil changes anymore. A simple, and cheap service that allowed me to get a few squirts of windshield washer fluid when I needed it, but it got removed from the service offering.
