I had a 2 hour layover so decided to grab a late dinner and drink. Wow these prices! I guess you can charge whatever you want when you have a captive audience. I tried the fish and chips which were fine. The server was friendly.

My boyfriend and I were catching a flight home later this evening and we thought it would be nice to have dinner at the airport. We saw Monk’s and thought it looked pretty nice so we decided to stop there. Our waitress was quick to greet us, but instead of the regular warm greeting that you expect at a restaurant, she was rather cold. She didn’t introduce herself or even say hi, she just kind of starred at us for a moment then asked what we wanted to drink. I ordered a 5oz. glass of wine and my boyfriend a pint of beer. She was fast in bringing our drinks but I noticed that my glass seemed oddly full for a 5oz. She continued to ask what we wanted to eat. We both ordered a plate of hot wings and they came out in about 10 minutes. To our surprise, the wings were completely dry with no sauce. The hot sauce was in a ramekin to the side, which we both found very odd, because usually wings come tossed and covered in sauce-y goodness. The amount of sauce in the ramekin barely covered half of each wing, and the breading on the wings was overcooked and dry. We were both very unhappy with our choice, and might I mention it was $ 15.50 each for that. Neither of us filled up on the wings in hopes of a better dessert. We ordered the Raspberry Cheesecake. Once again, very unsatisfying. The crust was dry and the filling was oddly flavorless. At the end of the meal, we asked our waitress for our bill which she brought to us, dropped off a debit machine and then disappeared. At this point, we noticed that she charged us for a 9oz. glass of wine when I very clearly asked for 5 at the beginning of the meal. She didn’t come back to our table beyond this. We found it very unprofessional to not even thank your table for coming in at the end of a meal. One of the other waiters saw that we were all paid and our waitress hadn’t come back to take her receipt/say goodbye, so he finished her job for her. As we were finishing our beverages, we noticed the host behind us asking our waitress a question and she began gossiping about another table of hers right in ear shot of us. We even both looked at her, made eye contact with her, then she continued talking about these other customers very loudly. We were most unimpressed with our waitress because of how rude and unwelcoming she was towards us, although she did offer fast service. The food was not at all what we hoped for at that price point. We won’t be going back there.

I had breakfast this morning at Monk’s Grill at the Vancouver Airport. When I looked at the menu, blueberry pancakes sounded good so that’s what I had, along with a glass of milk. I hadn’t had pancakes in a long time and these were good. The blueberries were fresh and exploded with flavour. Charmaine was my server and she took good care of me.

I went to Monk’s Grill with a Colleague when we were a little hungrier than what the Maple Leaf Lounge had to offer and it was pretty good. My colleague had a steak, and due to being past security, no steak knives are allowed, so that was interesting. The poor server delivered that explanation with a well-rehearsed spiel and then practically cringed waiting for a response. Of course, we didn’t complain, but if you expect that much of a blowback, maybe mention it when people order? They were also really stingy with the condiments, and I like my ketchup. I don’t want to wait for my fries to get cold while I wait for you to come back with more ketchup. It seems like pretty much the only sit-down gig in town in the domestic terminal so probably will be back.

This place would be nothing special if it is not located at the domestic terminal(after security). There is really not much other better choice at this boring domestic terminal. I wanted to grab something fresh to make to eat. I’m glad I walked in Monk’s Grill. The tables and bar area were full of people grabbing a drink and food while waiting for their flights, especially connecting flights like me. My server was very friendly and nice while taking order for the dead tired me. The chicken, bacon and cheese panini was made so good. I could choose from fries, Caesar salad or green salad on the side. I chose the green salad and its dressing and mixture was just perfect. The price was reasonable. The background music was just right. I enjoyed the vibe there. I felt like I was totally recharged.

So, my wife has always looked at me strangely when I mention going to Monk’s on my way thru YVR. Well, tonight I experienced what she has in the past. Worst service I have seen in a while. It must depend on the servers who help you. I had never seen the bar tender on tonight, rude! Just went down hill from there.

One of the best places to grab a drink or a bite to eat in the domestic side of YVR. Nothing fancy but real quick and usually good. Try the beef dip it’s tasty with the crispy onions.

Jan. 4⁄14 waiting for a flight to Toronto, my husband and I chose to eat at Monk’s Grill. Really good decision. I ordered the Tiger Prawn Salad. Awesome. Four plump and juicy prawn on a bed of fresh baby spinach with perfectly ripe avocado, sliced radish, two grilled but creamy baby artichoke hearts and a perfectly cooked, panko crusted deep fried egg — liquid yolk with all the white firm. And a delicious creamy Stilton dressing. $ 18.00 and worth every cent for the best airport food I’ve ever eaten. And I’d order it again anywhere! What a treat. My husband had the beef dip and salad and declared it ‘very good’.

I was in a hurry to catch a flight and expecting Milestone’s which is now changed to Monk’s Grill. I was very impressed with the service from a 20-something Asian gentleman. He quickly recommended a breakfast that met my dietary restrictions, kept me apprised of the time till the meal came, and quickly and efficiently rang the bill through while also asking if I wanted a drink. He made the experience smooth and so it felt effortless. Thank you! I’ll be back and recommend Monk’s Grill to friends and colleagues.

Above average for airport food. .. a little pricey. First course: Soup of the day — chicken and wild rice($ 8.00). Small bowl, comes with a slice of warm, buttered baguette. It had a good blend of rice, chicken and veg. While it didn’t taste freshly made, and it had that shipped in look and taste, I still found it good enough, but overpriced. Main: Mascarpone Shrimp and Dungeness Crab cakes($ 16) with sangria poached pears, chipotle aioli, with citrus-carrot arugula salad. This was all fresh tasting, and nicely displayed. Very thin and few slivers of carrot in the otherwise good-size side salad. No discerning taste of sangria, but the poached pears were perfectly poached. Two small cakes, more shrimp than crab with cheese and another filler(crumbs?). The aioli not too spicy and good combo for the cakes. Service was professional and timely. Good fish and seafood options on the menu, plus breakfast to 11:30am. This is not necessarily gourmet, but better than all the other meal options at the airport. Restaurant seating.

It’s the best restaurant at the airport. Unfortunately, that’s not a very high bar. The food is good, but overpriced. The service is friendly, but not prompt. I travel a lot for work, and I often take the red-eye to Toronto. I used to rely on this place for my evening meal, but the kitchen closes at sporadic times. They’ve previously told me that the kitchen closes at ten, but when I rushed to get there so I could get something to eat before my flight, the kitchen was closed early. In other restaurants that is understandable, but at an airport where everything is run on a schedule, you need service to be reliable.

I wish I’d been able to experience the same Monk’s Grill as many other reviewers on here. I understand that this restaurant is in an airport, so they have to work with the environment and I assume it can be pretty slow-going at times(I’m sure some folks spend hours in there waiting for flights), but there’s so many things wrong with this place that could be fixed. Number one: the service was utterly horrendous. The host was completely lifeless, soft-spoken, and uninterested. We may as well have sat ourselves because he clearly had no interest in doing it, or talking to us, or doing his job. Our waiter was okay — a little timid, had to triple-check our orders, and took forever to bring our bill/ring us through. But he got the job done. I don’t think I saw a staff member in there crack a smile. Number two: such a sterile, boring environment. Being in an airport has nothing to do with this. The place is large, open, spaced apart, boring, bright, and SILENT. Regardless of the commotion of the airport, this place had zero character and zero energy. Number three: pretty overpriced. This is to be expected, eating at the airport. But if you’re going to charge $ 8.00 for an ounce of alcohol, or $ 16.00 for an average-at-best sandwich and cold fries, you better have a good restaurant and great service to pair with it. Unfortunately, this place had nowhere near either. All we wanted before our flight was to have a few drinks, and a good bite to eat. I’m very thankful I was with friends to have an enjoyable time and conversation, because I feel like this would have almost been a depressing stop if I had been alone.

I was delayed for four hours today, thought I would check out the bar Monks Grill. Now the drinks can be overly priced but it all depends on what you order. I had a caesar which was one of the best I had. The bartenders are great and seem to be having a good time. Fish tacos were recommended and I now know why. Will come back in the future.

Quick and easy. The waitress got our food fast within minutes after we ordered. I ordered Chicken Panini sandwich which was perfect and a ½ salad n ½ fries with the order was great. I didn’t want too much salad or fries to ruin my somewhat healthy lunch.

They have you in a corral(literally) and once you are in they take you for all you got. Okay that may be a slight dramatization, but the reality is that this restaurant is grossly over priced. The food is not great either so really this is a lose lose situation… Except for the restaurant. The steak dinner cost $ 30 and was Denny’s style and even the salads were disappointing. I guess you are at the Airport to travel, not to eat… so… don’t.

Usually Airport food is overpriced and terrible… I’m always trying to find a great meal while I travel and one place I frequent at airports is Monk’s Grill. I actually have eaten at this same location before it was really open to the public in YVR and have loved it ever since. Today I ordered breakfast between flights and had a toasted bagel with smoked salmon. Very good. Fast service, great staff and nice strong coffee !!! I’ve have many of the items on the menu and each one has been great.

Very happy with Monk’s Grill. Great appetizers and filling enough without having to go for an entrée. The fish tacos and lobster corn dogs were both very good. Service was prompt and friendly and I would come back again.
