Everyone is nice but I will only give 4 stars and not five is because when I ask for 3 water they forget then when I ask again only 1 water…

A Korean restaurant run by Chinese people. The menu doesn’t even list the authentic Korean names(i.e. Jap chae is listed as potato noodles with beef and vegetables). They took forever to take our order, forgot to give us tea, and then told us they didn’t have what we wanted. So we changed our order to a hot pot and because of that we had to change tables. I haven’t even eaten yet but I’m writing this as we wait because they are absolutely terrible.

We celebrated my aunt’s birthday dinner at Man Ri Sung. Located on the 3rd floor of Aberdeen Centre in Richmond, it’s a Korean restaurant with Chinese influence. The food had elements of both cuisines which I thought was pretty interesting. They provide several duck set courses so we ordered two sets of the Duck for 4 people. Each set includes 4 side dishes, 1 peking duck with 20 pieces of wrap, one of either boiled dumplings or pan-fried potato noodles or rice sausage, and one of either the duck hot pot with cut noodles or duck congee. Since we got 2 of the same set, we ordered one duck congee and one duck hot pot and for the other dish, we just ordered 2 of the pan-fried potato noodles since that seemed more filling for all of us. The Pan-Fried Potato Noodles(Japchae) were pretty tasty. It was mixed with some cucumbers, bean sprouts, and carrots. This was cooked well since the noodles weren’t too tough. Sometimes these kinds of potato noodles are difficult to chew on and you can easily choke on them(yikes)! The Peking Duck was presented nicely with nice slices served on a plate and the leftover bones separate. This is one of my favourite dishes to have and it’s usually only served at Chinese restaurants so it’s great that Man Ri Sung has this too. You eat this by taking a slice of the duck and wrapping it with some sliced cucumber, green onions, and hoisin sauce as well. The wraps were nicely made and easily separated from one another. Some were more oval-shaped rather than circular but that’s not a big issue. The duck itself was delicious. It was properly cooked and had a nice smokey taste to it. Yummy! The Duck Hot Pot was different from regular hot pots so it was great to try this. There weren’t actually any duck pieces in the hot pot but it had the essence of duck. The broth was probably made from the bones. The blade sheared noodles were nice and chewy, not overcooked at all and the soup just warmed us up on such a cold day which was nice :) Like the hot pot, the Duck Congee didn’t have any duck slices — just the flavour. It was very tasty as well! It was different from Chinese style congee because it’s more soupy and not as thick and you can eat the individual rice grains. I actually like this better. :P All of the dishes were yummy and I was extremely satisfied with our meal here. The service was decent. They actually mixed up our order but they were able to correct it right away so that was fine. Also very clean inside(big thumbs up!) However, when we got home, we were all very thirsty and had to drink lots of water — quite possibly due to the MSG. Anyways, I’d still come back for the duck and to try other dishes as well. It’s great for bigger groups too. :) Food — 8.5÷10 Service — 8⁄10 Ambience — 8.5÷10 Value — 7.5÷10

Went here with the family for the 4 person Peking duck meal. Duck is authentic and same as the one we bad in Beijing. The meal is a great deal! Overall, service was attentive and food was good.

I was already suspicious when my friend told me this place served Peking duck and Korean food together… everyone else was on board, so 7 of us got their $ 110 set meal(meant to feed 6 people). This included a Peking duck, Korean side dishes, seafood pancake, fried potato noodles, Korean ribs, and a hot pot style duck soup with hand cut noodles. We added on 2 orders of deep fried dumplings for $ 18. The split was about $ 20/person — good value especially for the variety you’re getting, but the food was just meh. I’ve definitely had better dumplings. I think the Peking duck was deep fried whole, and super dry. It was chopped up into big pieces with meat(but without the bone), so you can wrap it up in the pancake(whereas when properly served, its only the skin that gets sliced, and the meat gets prepped into another dish). Either way though, the duck was dry. The rest of the food was OK, but pretty greasy. The hot pot didn’t taste that good. The menu also included other random Chinese dishes in there, like chicken chow mein, sweet & sour pork, lemon chicken, mapo tofu, and a few other random things. I won’t be coming back here, but it kind of reaffirms to go with my gut instinct to not really trust restaurants that offer odd mixes of different cuisines.

Regardless of this fact, there are very few reasons to come back to this place unless you’re trying to fulfill your craving or all other restaurants are full. Food wise, the food was alright but there’s nothing spectacular or noticeable about the meal. We ordered some food from lunch special. Pan fried squid — it cooked well enough to the point where the squid was similar to the consistency of rubber. Steamed pork dumpling — It’s well-marinated which MSG. Pork rib and potato soup — The soup based so bland and stock not well-prepared. Past the food though, the price is definitely okay being under $ 15 but luckily this place is located within Aberdeen centre so you have other options besides Sura Korean

I got the Soft Tofu Soup at spicy level(second highest), which came to just under $ 15 with tax and tip. Everyone else at my table shared their duck special, but my food didn’t arrived until right before the last course of their meal was brought out. Although listed as having seafood, my soup contained only a single prawn and a single mussel. Most of the soup contents was tofu with some veggies. In terms of flavor, it was very average; the soup is what I would expect from a typical Korean restaurant. I didn’t find it very spicy though. Our rotating plate on the table was difficult to spin. Service was pretty good, although I did catch a few weird looks from the staff when people were still deciding what to order.

We were a group of 8 adults and 4 toddlers, under 2. We and came here because we couldn’t get into a sushi or another Korean restaurant without having to wait for at least 45 minutes. This is hard when we have little ones who were starting to get tired. If we had seen their sign for Beijing /Peking duck, we wouldn’t have entered. We ordered a couple of soups, seafood pancake, jap chae, beef bulgogi, galbi, and a bibimbap for the little ones to share. We specified the egg needed to be cooked well done. We were disappointed when it wasn’t and the was barely any beef, but again… It was getting late. The pancake was very doughy and so the ratio of seafood the filling was off. The jap chae was extremely oily and bland. The galbi was bland and had a strong beef smell… It’s almost gamey, which is rare for me to say as I love my steak between rare and medium rare. The soups came out and we noticed there was no rice or even lettuce plate, which a Korean restaurant would give. And they totally forgot the bulgogi. So in the end, we just cancelled the order. What we did enjoy were the free Kim Chi and the soups. Everything else was a miss. We would not be coming back here.

Man Ri Sung used to be elsewhere in Richmond(I really don’t ‘get’ Richmond so I have no idea where…) which was pretty popular but small and this new location is so much better! On the 3rd floor of Aberdeen Centre, so much more spacious, new, lots of free parking if you dare to brave the Richmond parking lots! They just opened last Thursday, so I’m sure still working out a few kinks here and there but overall we had a really good dining experience. They are also offering 10% off as a special opening discount although I have no idea when that ends so if you’ve got a hankering for Peking Duck, head over! It’s already reasonably priced and they have good combo packages if you’re in a larger group. For a table of 11, we ordered two of their 4 person meals, each of which comes with a whole duck for Peking Duck(with wraps, sauce, sliced cucumber and spring onion), your choice of Jap Chae noodle(spelling?) or dumplings and a big duck based soup(noodles are so good and you can get regular or spicy soup base). Apparently it’s a better ‘deal’ to get two of their 4 person meals than one of their 8 person meals as you get more options(we did the Jap Chae and dumplings) and the pricing is similar. It was plenty of food for 11 of us. There is a private room with glass walls that can fit a table of 15 so if you have enough people, make sure to book that! The service was a bit slow and frantic as they seemed really understaffed but as it is the first week of being open I’m sure they will figure it out. The servers did their best and you could see they were working hard at getting to every table as fast as they could. They also don’t have their liquor license yet so if you’re looking to enjoy any alcohol with your meal, you might want to call ahead and check with them first to see if it’s been approved. Overall, it was a great meal and really cheap… I think we ended up paying about $ 16/person and were very full! If you’re not a fan of slow service, give it a few more weeks and I’m sure it’ll be better.
