I started taking classes with Master Lok for about a month now. I bought a Groupon for my daughter and I and so far we love this school. I have other martial arts background(Taekwondo, Jujitsu and Karate) so I’ve practice at other school and Master Lok does a great job teaching. He teaches the class from white to black belt levels and is totally hands on. I do not feel held back because of my previous experience, master Lok encourages me to use my previous skills such as advance kicking techniques. He just makes sure that I’m doing it the Hapkido way. I would recommend this school to anyone looking to give their child more confident and any adult that want to get in shape and learn some great skills along the way!

When I first moved to Vancouver, I looked around the martial arts community for a place to train. This was one of the first places I called because they were close by. Proximity is not the best way to choose a martial arts school, but it is the starting point many people use. I can’t tell you much about their actual quality of instruction since I never made it that far. When I called I asked how much their standard monthly tuition fee is, the woman on the phone refused to give an answer. She told me they had a 4-month special for $ 99 that included a uniform. This, however, is a gimmick many profit-oriented schools use to get people hooked. Then after the introductory special, they jack up the prices. And if people are really into the training, they’ll usually go along with it, even if it is crazy over-priced. In lieu of a straight answer, she invited me to come in to do 2 free trial lessons, then she said they would talk about prices. But I was persistent. I told her I wouldn’t want to waste her time and mine if I couldn’t afford their standard rates. I told her I wouldn’t come in unless she told me what they were. At this point, she accused me of being too scared to come in. Well, she was partly right. I was scared of going in and giving them the opportunity to lay a heavy sales pitch on me that would justify their, what was likely to be, exorbitant prices. So if you’re thinking about checking out this school, be warned. This is the kind of the attitude you can expect.
