The worst. We walked in for a quick drink and snack before going to see Star Wars during the Christmas break and left within 5 minutes. When the server came by, she literally began listing all the things that they were out of, which included several of their in house beers, chicken wings, most pizzas, perogies etc. They literally had maybe 2 of their appetizers in stock. When asked about the beers they did have left, she was completely unknowledgeable about their products which they brew on site! The one white IPA we tried was not drinkable. She said that their stock hadn’t come in yet. It was the Holiday Season during the opening week of STARWARS! How they could have goofed so epically is beyond me. The place may have an great and super convenient location but it was dirty and had no food or drinks — don’t bother. Seriously… just go to subway if you’re hungry before your movie.

So my parents and I came in today for lunch and had absolutely the worst experience ever. First the White ale was out. Ok, fine, not a big deal. But when we went to order, the server let us know that the items we chose– the pizza(they didn’t have dough made?), the quinoa salad and the riblets weren’t in stock. What? Really? So we got two appies– garlic fries and some hot wings. These were fine. Came hot. Not a big deal. Then we got our food. We all ordered burgers(I ordered the black bean patty, my parents the beef burger). We like our sauces on the side. So they came and two out of three had sauce on the burger. And all three weren’t hot. We sent them back. The server was nice and apologetic but when the two burgers came back, mine still had sauce(really?) and when we looked at my moms, it looks like the cooks(not chefs) just stuck the burger back on the pan to re-fry it. It was totally burnt. The server was gaping and acknowledged the burgers was burnt. We have up and just asked for the bill– without the burgers. We paid for the appies and the beers and the server tried to give us a $ 20 gift card to come back. We left it on the table. My thoughts– eat someone else before you head to the movies. Don’t come here. They really need to work out their menu. They might be a brewery but they have food– might want to think about making it good!!!

So the good news is that I’ve figured out why this place gets such shat ratings. If you sit in the dining room, eat food and expect good food and a good dining experience, as compared to other places in the GVRD you’re going to hate this place. BUT if you sit at the bar, just order a couple pints before the movie you’re waiting for– you’ll be fine. Had pretty stellar and instant service at the bar. 6 $ pints($ 4 on mondays?) are a fill 20oz and nothing to complain about. This is probably one of the cheaper pints you’ll drink. Beer selection is meh for me… but I was able to find something ok.

BRB is the worst bar I had ever been to. The service is slow and sluggish. I ordered a $ 5 brownie and glass of Shiraz to enjoy with my gf after a long day. The brownie looked stale and had nothing but caramel drizzle on the bottom. I remember ordering it a month ago and it came with chocolate drizzle and a scoop of ice cream. Last month, the brownie was amazing and that is why I decided to go back. What a disappointment. When I told the server that the ice cream was missing, he had the audacity to go to the kitchen and come back with a separate bowl of ice cream and said that it was $ 1. I do not recommend this place.

You have to try their BRB Burger. One of the best I’ve ever had and definitely my favourite in Richmond. AAA beef, pesto aioli, lettuce, tomato, pickle and a brioche bun. Killer. Patty was perfectly cooked and juicy and the bun had a ton of flavour and great texture. Plus, when you eat it, it stays together — no toppings or condiments dripping out the sides or on your hands and face. Served with hand cut fries. This is one fantastic burger — and only $ 10! There are also a number of optional additions for $ 2.

Walked in and it took them about 3 or 4 minutes to notice I was even there. A guy that even looked like a manager of some sort walked by and didn’t say anything. After being sat down it was another 3 to 4 minute wait. Looking around its fairly busy in here. I ordered the steak sandwich, one of their large platters. They really up’d their game since my last visit. Their plating is nice but, the food itself is mediocre. I asked for my steak medium rare but, taking a bite out of it, it’s really chewy. The ceaser salad was OK. Their coleslaw tasted half decent. The beer though is good. Red ale I think it was, it was on special so I thought I’d try it. All in all, maybe it’s just the plate that I ordered or the night that I came in but, I am not impressed. UPDATE: Had their cremebrule with ice cream. It was alright, little burnt spots here and there but edible. They make up with the service. Very pleasant and polite. Was it worth the $ 30, in total? Not really. My next visit I’ll try something else and hope for the best.

They brew their own craft beer, and they have a ham and pineapple pizza with bacon for $ 10. What’s not to love. Come for the proximity to the movie theatre, stay for the English Mild Ale.

*This review is strictly for the bar — not the dining room!* My fiancé and I were waiting for a few friends at the bowling alley next door. While we were waiting, we decided to grab a drink at the bar of the Big River Brew Pub(there’s a door to it through the alley — apparently the two are no longer associated with each other). We sat at the bar and were greeted by an extremely friendly bartender. I asked if they had any specials and he said they had pints of Sour Wheat for $ 4. Sour what? Sounds gross. Still, he gave us samples. At first, I couldn’t figure out what the heck I was drinking. Was it disgusting? Was it good? It was weird, I’ll give it that. Then he described it as Sour Patch Kids in a glass. Beer style. He was spot on and I was hooked. My fiancé? Not so much. So what did the awesome bartender do? He gave him a sample of every single beer on tap. After he chose one, we paid our bill, and got ready to bring our drinks with us to the bowling alley. Before we left, the bartender gave us another sample of a disgusting beer, because, why not?(He gave it to us with the tagline that it was gross. Not trying to say that all the beer they have there is gross). Thanks to the other reviews here, I’ll probably avoid the food at Big River, but definitely grab a drink at the bar if you’re there!

Was happy to hear they got shut down(until today). Always expect the lowest notch service here. No sneeze gaurds on the buffet, flies all over the place. Takes forever to be served even when its not busy. Most uncomfortable chairs in town and squeezed so close together you’ll feel like your dining with the people seated next to you. Food is nothing special, but the garlic fries and beer are really good. Glad they ID, but getting the up and down glare and waving my id in the air to see if its real for extended period, is rude.(just ask for 2nd peice aleady instead of making it awkward).

Came here because I bought a Groupon for 4. They have an area designated for family with kids. But its quite small. So you really either have to make a reservation or come early. They have weekly special but with my Groupon, I just ordered off the menu. Food wasn’t that great but again this is a pub. The food tasted as if its was cooked in a rush. Service, not that great either. We had to almost have to get up and hunt for the waitress ourself. Secondly, what disgust me is the flies flying around this place. I got so annoyed that I did kill one of them but there are just too many. At least 10. Come on get a fly zapper and zap all flies before opening the restaurant. Also the pub had an awkward smell. Its not moist but it smelled like its not clean. Also when sitting in check the seats before sitting. It can be quite dirty. Also the washroom was another thing that threw me off. They share a washroom with the bowling place. Well washroom looked clean but it doesn’t smell pleasant inside. Imagine going in feeling disgusted and coming out having to finish your meal. NONONO. Good thing is that they have free parking at the back.

They get one star because there is no way to give them a negative five. I ordered their three-course special with Beef Empanadas, paella, and flan. Thank God for the flan. It was the only thing good in the batch. The beef empanadas were not empanadas they were unseasoned ground beef smashed into a tapa and fried in oil(which pooled on the plate). The paella was about six mussels and three shrimp surrounding two cups of flavorless rice. The mussels literally tasted like horse manure and one of the six wasn’t even open. I would never eat here again. Got there at dinner time and it was dead, guess that should have told me something. Some places deserve to go out of business. This one is long overdue. Hopefully they go under before they poison someone. I’ve eaten at some pretty sorry places, but this one may just be the worst ever.

Update: 2⁄2 persons ate chicken also threw up or missed work the next day Stay away, it seems like the meals were in the freezer too long. I had sour beer and overly sour tzatziki. My panel of friends want me to vote ZERO stars.

It’s too bad they changed their menu so drastically, not kid friendly now and not casual good pub food like the old menu. Probably will not go there anymore sadly.

We went to the Big River Brew Pub as we were going to the movies across the street. We ordered items for dinner — one of us had a salad with salmon on top which was fine. Nothing stupendous but adequate. The other ordered the vegan kale/quinoa salad. Unfortunately the vegan salad appeared with goat cheese on top and was missing a couple of the items that it should have had(pecans, etc). A woman who appeared to be the shift supervisor came by to ask how the food had been. We shared with her our thoughts and she noted the comments.(Didn’t offer any type of discount or anything due to a vegan item coming with non-vegan components.) She suggested that we share a brownie dessert — this took 20 minutes to arrive. We had to shovel it in so that we could get to the movie on time. The service staff were friendly and helpful… but the service was slow. It seemed to take a while for the non-alcohol components of the meal to arrive — water, main course, dessert — but the wine appeared fairly quickly. Given how expensive the meal was, it didn’t equate with the quality of the food and service. Won’t go back.

This place used to be really good… now… not so good. The only thing I enjoyed was my ice cold Canadian. I probably won’t be back. Too expensive for what you get.

Most nights they are average but tonight, we waited 1 hour for our food only to have it arrive overcooked. Even the servers were complaining to our table and others around us about the kitchen!

Big River is pretty decent and I’ve been a few times using their frequent Groupon promotions.(and maybe twice before without Group haha) Anyways, whenever I dine here, it’s usually because we have a movie to watch after the meal and Big River is the most convenient place to go. Their prices are decent($ 13 can get you a large burger with fries) and the staff are quite friendly.(The waitresses are awesome but the hostesses can be a bit… indifferent) If you order the nachos, please order the half-size. The portion of their half-sized nachos are absolutely massive, and we couldn’t even finish the entire thing even though we were starving! We shared a burger(with salad) and the half-sized nachos and unfortunately, half of the nachos went to waste. This could easily be an appetizer for four and I honestly don’t know how anybody could finish a full-size order without having a dozen people!

Menu shows 11 beers on tap. When I went they only had two running — both IPAs. Poor excuse for a brew pub. Staff were generally disinterested.

This is one of my favourite bars in the entire metro city. They make their own beer and it always changes throughout the year so every time you come here it will be different. The food is very good and I love the garlic mixed fries. But what I like more about his location is the decorations. There is a real heritage and pioneer feel to the décor in the bar as honey have things like canoes hanging from the walls and ceiling.

This place is a 2.5. They get their business purely by location in an entertainment complex. It’s exactly what you would expect from a dark pub. The food is OK… they try to be somewhat more interesting, so I’ll give them kudos for that, but the execution more often than not falls short. I usually order the fish tacos, which are decent considering it’s a pub. The burgers are pre-frozen; fries are usually served cold/soggy, nachos are ginormous but always has some unmelted cheese in the middle. etc. etc. Salads were surprisingly good and their dressing seems to be made fresh and tastes good. Prices are reasonable — nothing too outlandish, $ 11 – 13 for a sandwich or burger. Whatever you do, don’t do the buffet. I’ve taken a peak at what it is and it looks disgusting. It is cheap though, so I guess you get what you pay for. I’m not sure when they offer it, sometimes I see it and sometimes I don’t. Service has been hit or miss but I think they all have good intentions, despite some shortcomings. Ok fine, I’ll up their rating to a 3.
