We came all the way to try this new location yesterday and the line very slow and long that 3 people abandoned their trays of baked goods. It wasn’t well stocked, half the shelves were empty and the labels were all over the place. We stood in line and decided not to waste our time shortly after. Maybe we’ll try again in a few months.

I first heard of Bake Code when it first opened at Yonge & Sheppard and finally got a chance to try it out when the 2nd store opened in Hillcrest Mall. Bake Code got some very unique items compared to standard Hong Kong style bakery but the price tag is definitely on the the higher end. My recommended items are: Mentaiko Baguette(crispy and salty) Gangnam Star(Kimchi favoured cream cheese fillings) Sweet Taro(soft and chewy with creamy taro fillings) This rating is based on the quality and taste of the bakery items. Since this store is still new, I find the services is a bit slow. Also, some popular items such as Mentaiko Baguette is only available in specify days of the week.

Bake Code sharing the same storefront with Chatime inside Hillcrest Mall. If you like Asian Fusion baked good or never try them, it is worth a visit. They offers free samples on some of their more unusual products. Though supplied with tongs for picking up samples, a lot of people just picked it up with their bare hands. So cleanliness maybe a concern. Accepts credit cards so you can just pay your purchase with the Taiwanese tea you ordered from Chatime,

Finally was in the area and had a chance to visit this new bake code location. I really like Bake Code’s bread and love their innovative asian flavors. Kimchi creamcheese bread was bomb! It was slighyly sweet, probably cause of the bread? But it was stuffed with a lot of cream cheese mixed with kimchi bits. Not sure if its cause the place was still fairly new, but service was really slow. I went in the afternoon so it wasn’t any rush hour time but it was just a long wait to pay and they got my drink wrong too. There is also no where to sit at this location. I’d rather go to the yonge and Sheppard location. the 4 stars is more for the bread, not the service or location.

This place is definitely fresh and unique in the area. However it is missing a place to sit, and the atmosphere is not the same as the other Toronto location. Would recommend a visit nonetheless.

A Taiwanese take on baked goods. It reminded me of when I was in Japan. Presentation — Looks good. They have a tray and tongs for you to pick out your goods. I was a bit apprehensive about the large display for their breads. There was no cover and it’s right by the front so I can see people touching it with their hands. Kids also sort of rushed to touch it too. Plus with so many people coughing and sneezing while they were in line to pay… Made me think twice to get something from that area. The cashiers are very slow. There is one line for bubble tea and another line for baked goods. If you have a vicinity card, they only take it for bubble tea. Baked goods don’t count. When the cashier was putting through my purchase, she asked someone a question but her long hair brushed against my buns I was going to pay. I asked to get new ones. I don’t know if they just put it back out there for people or if they threw it away. Price — Ok, this is where they lost points big time. First off, at any other bakery you buy six and you pay no tax. When I inquired, I was told they are complying with CRA but that at the moment management is trying to figure out what to do. So in other words, if you buy six baked goods, you are going to pay tax! Prices were alot higher than other places. I mean, $ 4+ for a brioche bun with chocolate. $ 6 for a large taro bun. I don’t mind paying more if I’m getting quality but based on what I got, I’d say it was a rip off. Taste — It wasn’t as light and fluffy as I was hoping. The garlic bun was really salty… I mean, really salty and not that fluffy. Overcharging customers tax and charging alot for mediocre pastries. I’d rather go to Panera.
