PJ’s Pet Center

This is a large store filled with everything you could ever possibly need for your pet. The prices are a tad elevated compared to other pet stores in Pickering but chances are they will probably have the item you’re looking for when some of the smaller chains won’t.
The one thing that really drives me nuts about this place is the overinflated prices for kittens. I have a friend who strongly advocates getting your pets from a shelter and I get that, I do… but I’m somewhat of a cat snob (as she calls me) and I’ve only ever lived with Abyssinians. I happen to like pedigrees. It doesn’t make me a bad person.
But I digress… My issues is, first of all, what reputable breeder would EVER allow their babies to be sold in a pet store and second, the prices are insane! Clearly these breeders are only in it for the money and that makes me sick.
Our Ozzy is a show quality Abyssinian and comes from a long line of Champions. We purchased him privately from a breeder for $ 700.00. $ 700.00! How is it that PJ’s are selling Abys for nearly $ 2,000.00??? Are you kidding me?
Trust me when I tell you… if you’re looking for a pedigree, go to a cat show and chat with the breeders. You’ll have a better idea of the lineage they have and it won’t cost you an arm and a leg!
I’m rating them a 3-​star based solely on their product availability and selection within the store… but I would NEVER buy a pet from them.

All the staff are well trained in their jobs, not the friendliest but they do the job. Big store, lots of selections. Can’t complain…

Big store, lots of selection, but upon asking for further details about the animals’ origins I was given vague answers. Saying the pets come from reputable breeders and/​or Canadian breeders only is, in my opinion, a crock. Reputable breeders want to know their puppies are going to a good, well screened home, and no «reputable» breeder would ever allow a third party to get involved. And news flash– there are Canadian puppy mills too– Whitevale, Oshawa, Newmarket all have «breeders» who have been caught running puppy mills and who knows how many others there are. I won’t support a store that carries out this deplorable way of selling pets– buy them at a bargain, increase the cost by hundreds of dollars, and rely on impulse buyers who can’t resist… just saying.

PJ’s Pet Center is located inside The Pickering Town Centre.
The store itself is huge, spacious and well stocked compare to other PJ’s Pet Centers.
The only thing I am not too comfortable are all the live stocks they carries. over 20 puppies for sale… as PJ always priced their dogs at an unbelievable inflation prices and of course the source of the puppies are always quite questionable.
Staffs here are not as helpful as the smaller pet supply stores like Global or Pet Valu and the lack of the better quality pet food.

I’d like to give this business a 0 star rating, but the website doesn’t allow it. Do not buy your puppy here. I got a pup in October, he’s cost me close to $ 10,000 in vet bills, he’s close to death, he’s froma puppy mill. Don’t let them tell you different. They lie. I’m not sure how these people live with themselves. It’s a discusting and heartbreaking story. If I could do it again I would not get a pup from there. Thank god I got him and took care of him when I did, otherwise he’d be dead now.
