I had an amazing lunch at Taylor’s yesterday with friends. Warm service — excellent knowledge of the wine menu. Such a lovely atmosphere and delicious menu options, our quick lunch last over three hours.

We will be back. After stopping in at two separate restaurants and leaving; we finally landed here for lunch. Glad we did and we will be back. The place is very small but welcoming. We sat at the bar as all the seats were taken and were told that we would get a seat very soon. We grabbed a glass of white wine and enjoyed the casual ambiance. We were indeed seated quickly and at the window seat which was very quaint. The service is friendly and casual. I enjoyed the tomato tower and my husband had the burger. My salad was absolutely delicious and I would order it again in a heartbeat. Very fresh and flavorful. From the conversation around us it was obvious that there were some regulars there for lunch; which is a great sign. My husbands burger was very good as well

Great food great service. Had a wonderful time the other night at our 30th anniversary. They had a bottle champagne ready for us when we got there. The tomato and goat cheese salad was perfect. Lovely presentation. Very reasonable prices. This was our first time and won’t be our last.

Yum! I love eating at Taylor’s. Since their opening, they definitely raised the bar of the Old Ottawa South eatery scene. It’s perfect for a business meeting, a romantic date, or just a simple get together. Everything I have had on the menu was delicious, full of flavour and as local and seasonal as it gets. The venue is comfortable and the kitchen is open. The only down side is that your clothes can end up smelling like food. Not the best, but not a deal braker either. A must try for sure!

Wow! Just experienced Taylor’s So will start with how unassuming the location is on the corner of Bank & Sunnyside not having a clue about what I was walking into. What a pleasant surprise this is run by the former Domus people(side note we lost a true gem in Ottawa when they closed). OK so this is a tiny restaurant not much to look at but your not there to be wowed by their appearance. As we were there for a late lunch we were offered the Chef’s Table … Amazing!!! Although most likely will never have that opportunity again I was thrilled. When you look at the menu you will notice or might think there isn’t a lot of choice but when you take pride in serving a quality product you understand it’s impossible to serve 100 items. What, I noticed from the patrons of the restaurant was how happy they were to experience the food. The table to my left were eating burgers although I do not eat red meat might just have to try the burger here if looked amazing. I had Lentil Soup for my lunch and from our waitress description it was exactly as advertised. By far this is the very best soup I have ever had anywhere in the world and I have travelled! My companion had a summer salad which had such contrasts between salty, sweet and crunchy with the very freshest items available if I was a betting man would say local. The salad was followed by a pasta dish that made my companion hum well eating it. It was a linguini in a cream sauce with bacon and a good size portion. The only marks off and the reason I didn’t give if a 5 was due to my cutlery which was dirty and our server short changed me on the bill. An honest mistake most likely but serving 101 shouldn’t happen. Looking forward to going back for dinner!!!

Went for lunch at a friend’s recommendation and was not disappointed. When i heard it was the chef from Domus there was no hesitation to try it. Quaint little patio in a great part of town(Bank and Sunnyside) We had a delicious lunch with a nice bottle of wine. Will definitely return

The food is spectacular and the staff is really friendly and professional. I must check out Domus soon, their sister company downtown!

Taylor’s is an Ottawa newcomer. But it has longtime local roots. Its owners also operate the downtown classic, Domus, which has been consistently serving some of the finest food in the nation’s capital for years. Domus has been my favorite Ottawa eatery since the mid-1990s. And now there is Taylor’s. A casual bistro with a short but excellent menu. I has the foie gras torchon appetizer and duck confit as my main. Both were excellent. My sister-in-law had the beet salad appetizer and the arctic char as her main. The arctic char was seared to perfection. We shared two excellent cheeses for dessert. An outstanding blue and a well aged cheddar. We shared a reasonably priced Cotes du Rhone which matched everything. Service was attentive but not obtrusive. I can’t wait for my next trip to Ottawa so that I eat again at Taylor’s. My apologies to Domus — though there’s no doubt I will be back there too.

2.5 stars… Taylor’s Genuine was a bit of a mixed bag… Service was a bit too casual and less that happy to have us. Atmosphere was also bit funky and fun… but maybe too relaxed for $$$ That said the food was beyond reproach. We shared a bowl of artichoke curry soup, I had the beef and my wife had black cod… I might come back again as I did enjoy the food so, but then again I could just go to Domus for the same quality and the same price and really be wowed but the service and atmosphere

This is s tough one. Four stars for the food and three for the atmosphere/service and the wine list. We had 8:30 reservations and when we arrived at 8:30 the small entry was JAMPACKED full of people waiting for tables. We didn’t receive a warm greeting or much assurance of when we would be getting a table. We were seated 10 minutes later and received no apology for the wait. A complementary taste of champagne would have been a pro move and a nice gesture. The situation improved when we got our food. Both main dishes we ordered(duck and shortribs) were excellent, artfully presented, decently priced and delicious. We had an assortment of charcuterie as a starter. It was good but way overpriced as charcuterie tends to be everywhere. We also ordered the apple /artichoke soup which was delicious. The wine list fairly limited but had some decent selections. No corkage allowed here unfortunately. The restaurant is small and the tables are close together which can make for a less than intimate dining experience. We will go back to Taylors at some point and will try to do so on weekdays when it will be less busy. Also, we’ll stick to the mains next time.

Pretty expensive. Flavours acceptable. Nice service though. Good alternative to the market for wine drinkers. Portions are kind of small.

I had supper here with a friend in June, when Taylor’s Genuine had just opened. We had made a reservation, but got a seat at the bar, since this restaurant is so cozy. This was fine with us, since we are both in the industry and enjoy being close to the action. My friend had already ordered a bottle of wine and charcuterie plate. There was an good selection of meats, cheeses and pates for the plate and this all came with bread, carmelized onions and some chutney. It was very tasty and we actually had trouble finishing it. Since my friend is a sommelier, I left the wine selection up to her. She chose the Crozes-Hemitage Syrah, which was a nice smooth wine. She was, however, relatively unimpressed with the wine selection and thought that it could be more creative. We both ordered daily soups and then since we were already getting full, we decided to split the salmon. We know that splitting is a a major inconvenience, especially in fine dining, so we always make it clear that we are perfectly happy to split the main ourselves when we decide to do this. At Taylor’s, however, they split it for us and made the presentation just as nice as it would have been on one plate. It was a nice gesture. One thing I like about the layout here is that the kitchen is completely open. Since I also cook, I am always curious to see what is going in the kitchen. The staff were very friendly and talked to us as they worked(since we were near the kitchen and also one of the later tables). The menu is always changing here, so you can go often without eating the same thing. It is a small restaurant, so make sure to make a reservation!
