registered this account because of phuket. this item i had might not look as bad in pic, but this was one of the two worst chicken pad thai ive ever had so far. no.1 siam kitchen no.2 phuket royale they definitely have something in common. both their pad thai taste like ketchup, but not as delicious as ketchup. too sour that i couldnt even taste anything else. rubbery chicken. pad thai is supposed to be sour and spicy, that doesnt mean we put ketchup and hot sauce in it… compared to other thai restaurant, price here is way cheaper. but this doesnt mean that their food worth the price. i didnt order other dishes here other than pad thai, but im never going back again. ps i wouldnt call it a pad thai when theres no firm tofu in it

Never been to Chinatown in Ottawa, I was looking for vegetarian food and pass this place. It is a Thai place with some vegetarian option. The place was rather packed at lunch time. A pack place is always a good sign. Service is efficient. The food come out in no time. I ordered a Sauté Vegetable with Tofu and Egg Plant, rice is not included. My lunch buddy has a vegetarian noodle. The dishes and tea and rice comes to just over $ 27 Canadian = less than US$ 20. The food is tasty but there might be a touch of msg in the food. My tongue is slightly swollen which is what happen when I consume msg. It is in the main street easy to find so if you don’t mind msg not a bad spot. Oh there is a lunch menu which is cheaper but I did not order from it.

Friendly service, food came out quickly and the two curries we had were tasty! Restaurant was clean inside. Worth coming in for a feed!

Phuket Royale is hands down the best Phở and Asian fusion restaurant in Ottawa. Nestled in the heart of Chinatown by the city’s beautiful street arch, we have enjoyed their cuisine countless times. The Phở is deliciousness — with a delicately seasoned broth complemented by crisp greens and generous portions of noodles and meats, including a wider variety of choices with fresh vegetables and seafood on the soup choices. Their full entries are also excellent — stir fries, curries and the expected fare is complemented with some authentic choices I don’t see outside of Toronto and Vancouver. Service is always courteous and very fast. The interior of the restaurant is more upscale than most. …to underscore my confidence that Phucket Royale is a guaranteed win, this evening the entire Vietnamese student association of Carleton university was enjoying a meal — and a Phở eating competition! Just go.

Really craved pad Thai so came here with my husband. I ordered chicken pad Thai and he got shrimp curry. Rice was not included and cost 2 dollars which was a little unusual for any Asian restaurant. How can you eat heavy curry without rice? Sure. Extra 2 dollars. The free tea was terrible. It was something minty with a very fake scent. I thought it was some hand detergent at first. Then the food. Pad Thai was really sticky and way too sour. Portion is acceptable for 11 something dollars. Shrimp curry was great. Shrimps were big and the curry tasted really good with this nice coconut taste. The rice was totally a rip. Not good quality rice. But if you want rice you just have to pay the 2 dollars. The environment is pretty good for a Thai restaurant. Service is ok. The waiter was polite and friendly but never came to ask us about the food or anything after we ordered the food. In general not a great experience. Probably won’t come back again.

Ladies and gentlemen, please flip to pages 2, 3, 4, and 5 of the menu and add 2 dollars to every non noodle dish. Rice isn’t included and you’re basically forced to order their mediocre non-jasmine rice for 2 dollars a bowl. Moving on, we ordered the shrimp green curry and the pad Thai. The curry was fine and shrimp was plentiful. But how could I possibly trust a Thai restaurant that can’t whip up decent pad Thai? Well I can’t. The pad Thai was a mushy, overly sour lump with some chicken spread around the side. It stuck to your mouth like those eggs from alien. You might reach for the tea to clean out your mouth and you really will, the tea tastes like citron cleaning solution… If you’re dying for rice-less curry this is your place, we’re not coming back again.

This restaurant was great. Ambiance was nice, well decorated, and the food was delicious! It was also reasonably priced. Only thing was that the server seemed pretty overwhelmed though it wasn’t busy. This didn’t hurt the overall experience though. They had Vietnamese, Thai, and more. We will definitely be back! :)

Was kinda worried at first about a restaurant that serves Thai and Vietnamese… but the Thai food is pretty spot on. Totally love the Pa Nang curry with chicken. This restaurant is clean and the service is great. Only downside is that it closes at 10…

Great food and great service. Had the seafood curry t77 and the duck and both dishes were great. We also had the fresh rolls, spring rolls and the soup. Loved it. The food did come all at once — some wouldn’t enjoy that bit we didn’t mind as we were sharing anyhow.

This is my go-to thai restaurant. I have yet to find a dish that didn’t leave me satisfied! Their prices are a little higher then the other restaurants on somerset, but you can really see it in the quality. They have vegetarian options here too(although limited). Each time I’ve come here, the restaurant has only been a quarter full… this may be due to their prices being higher than the others in Chinatown. The service is quick and friendly. They serve lemongrass tea at no charge. If you don’t know what to order, the yellow curry with chicken and potatoes is a safe bet.

The service is excellent and the Thai food is really good too! I would pass on the bún dishes if you’re coming here, as the Thai dishes are much better.

Great service and an overall good selection of Thai and Vietnamese food on the menu. A solid option for Thai in Ottawa for sure. Chicken satay skewers were on point and duck curry was made nice and spicy, just like I like it. If I lived here this would be a spot I might visit once every couple weeks.

There are times when travelling when you are wandering around a town in search of a place to eat and you are hoping the restaurant you enter is going to provide you with a good tasty dinner! We entered PR at 5:30 pm(yes we do eat early some nights!) there was no one else in the restaurant. Restaurant was clean and seemed comfortable and we had selected a booth at the back of the restaurant. Looking at the menu they had dishes that were Vietnamese and also a solid menu that was clearly Thai in origin. I ordered a thai ice tea to start things off. It was creamy and nice but not as strong as I had envisioned. One person in our dinner party ordered the tom yum shrimp soup. It came with lots of mushrooms and I had a taste, flavourful sweet– sour with 3 or so pieces of shrimp. We ordered three main dishes: penang curry chicken, shrimp with eggplant and a Vietnamese lemongrass chicken vermicelli with spring rolls. The penang curry was medium spice, very fragrant and nice and creamy but not overly creamy as some restaurants turn it to a glue type paste! The shrimp with eggplant was a yummy and contrasting in flavour and texture also. Succulent well sized shrimp with the Japanese style eggplant in a nice sauce with vegetables. The Vietnamese noodles were mostly for my daughter and it was nice and light and fresh, just how a Vietnamese Ga Bun should be. All was a good serving portion fresh and satisfying! Service from the young female server was polite, friendly and very good! We really enjoyed this place and they had some nice wawa candies to freshen the palette which was a dandy finishing touch! I’d definitely come back!

My friends who live in Chinatown had been saying how great Phuket Royal is, and I finally got a chance to give it a try and I am glad I did. I had been a bit skeptical because they offer Chinese and Vietnamese cuisine so i was concerned that they would do a lot of thing decently as opposed to few things very well. Fortunately that is not the case. We were a large group(9 people) but were early for dinner so they had no trouble accommodating us. They have a large range of Thai Curries as well as phở and some other non-thai options. I ordered a Seafood curry. It was really well done with a great sauce that fortunately(for me) did not have any coconut and whose flavour that is really hard to describe apart from tasty. It also had a bit of a kick to it but not too much. My friend who has been there often ordered something that is theoretically vegetarian(a curry with yam noodles) but they were nice enough to allow him to add chicken to it, while another in the group had a chicken and potato curry that he said was excellent, although I tried the sauce and it was really coconutty. Only complaints from the group were the 2 who ordered phở, but I take their opinion with a grain of salt because a) they ordered a Vietnamese dish in a Thai restaurant and b) they are phở snobs so if you want phở, go to one of the phở restaurants in the area, you won’t have any difficulty finding one. They also found the spring rolls a bit bland but another one of our group liked the rice paper rolls he had. For service and ambiance, there are very little complaints there. Only thing I noticed is that my rice came well after the rest of my meal, so I ate some of my curry sans rice and the rest with rice. The staff were very courteous and helped our friends with the stroller get in and out of the restaurant no problem. The décor is very nice, a lot of Southeast Asian décor and it has plenty of natural light. The seats are also comfortable if that is something that you notice in a restaurant. One little thing to note is that the signs for the washroom can be confusing. There is a door that says«washroom» which seems to indicate there is only one unisex washroom, in fact that door leads to a hallway where the actual washrooms are. I had knocked on the outside door and stood there like a bit of an idiot before opening the door to discover the hallway, so if you need to use the washroom here don’t be fooled like I was. Overall this place is really good, the prices are comparable to other Thai places around and the quality is most excellent, at least as long as you stick to the Thai options.

Thai food… not my favorite cuisine. Main reason is because it tastes so much like Chinese food but over priced. Right in the middle of Ottawa’s Chinatown, which was pretty convenient for us. Ordered the beef satay skewers, curry shrimp and chicken with cashew(bowl of rice too). Can’t say food was bad, but can say portions were tiny. Again, nothing really stood out. Typical Thai restaurant and food was pretty standard. Bill came out to $ 40. A bit expensive for the food to me. Would I come back… unlikely. Not because it was bad… it was just nothing special.

We weren’t expecting much since they offer Chinese, thai, vietnamese and don’t seem to specialize in anything but we were pleasantly surprised. We started with fried shrimp spring rolls with the typical sweet chili sauce. The sauce was tangier than most places which was nice. Rolls were as good as anywhere. The pad kee maow with chicken was delicious and mildly spicy. Lots of fresh basil. We asked for extra chopped chilies on the side and they had it which was a promising sign. They were out of the Bbq duck on rice special so we got the Bbq pork special which was excellent. The pork was not too dry nor too greasy. The red colour actually looked natural. And there was a hint of sweet. It was served with a bowl of veggie soup and white rice. The broth was interesting but mainly it just provided my serving of veggies. Will definitely be back.

Only been open for 1 week. All the food was extremely tasteful, prices were reasonable. Food was so good that I forgot to take a picture before the plates were empty,
