Arrive early? No problem. We have a full selection of espresso coffee and baked goods available while you relax in our café equipped with another massive large screen TV. History

Established in 2015.

Aaron, owner of Not Your Father’s Barber, had to get used to being told he was crazy in the months leading up to the launch of his inaugural shop at 91 Murray Street in Ottawa’s Byward Market.

«Every time I heard it, I’d try to use it as further motivation,» said the 45-​year-​old. «Having worked in high-​performance sport my entire life, I was used to facing big challenges and working against the odds.»

The challenge this time however, was opening a business in an industry completely unknown to the one time coach and sports consultant. After years of spending 100+ days a year on the road he wanted to switch things up and try his hand at something more entrepreneurial.

«It’s an idea I’ve always had in the back of my mind,» he explains. «I remember going to the barber as a kid with my dad. I loved the communal environment and I always left feeling like it was a fresh start.»

Aaron spent his entire life working in high performance sport. When he retired from that he decided that, while he still wanted to be involved in sport, he wouldn’t miss the travel schedule, the long hours and was looking for a change. What he found was the idea for Not Your Father’s Barber, a sports themed barbershop complete with it’s own café, 40″ TV’s at each station, great barbers and a real «at home» feel.

Originally from BC, Aaron felt Ottawa was a great fit for the business and the theme so, he and his girlfriend, originally from Ottawa, relocated and started the journey in being self employed.

Open since Canada Day, it’s been an amazing transformation.

«Every Day I meet these great people from all over the world, some locals from the neighbourhood, some locals who come down to the market just to get a coffee and a haircut from us and some great tourists» Says Dahl. It’s a fantastic way to meet people and the business is really taking off. Kind of a dream come true!”
