A shitty place with some lazy workers, bad odor, and mediocre-at-best food. I would not recommend this at all given that there are more than 50 restaurants just outside.

One of only three McDonalds that can make a proper mcflurry in this city. I know I know, call me a mcflurry connoisseur, but this place has never served me a runny ass mcflurry, while other places seem to make it the norm.

So I do not often go to McDonald’s. Happened by this one for a bite before heading home. Now they have these video boards that change display frequently which makes ordering a pita Further they did not have some of the items displayed on their menu boards. This particular McDonald’s also had a lot of folks hanging around that were not customers. I will not be back.

This is not an attack an Mcdonald’s as I truly believe that it is one of the better cheap fast food options, however this is in regards to this specific location on Rideau street. Like always, the food I ordered came fast and tasted great however the biggest issue is that only at this location do they charge to make Mcdoubles dressed like a Big Mac. Having worked at Mcdonalds in the past at a different location, I know that this isn’t right at all. «Dressed like a Mac» means add lettuce and a squirt of Big Mac Sauce. Everyday Mcdonalds throws out heaps of lettuce between dinner and breakfast and waste a lot of Big Mac Sauce as well. The value of a small handful of lettuce and a squirt of big mac sauce is about 3 cents MAX, thats being generous. The franchise owner is making some very poor decisions regarding mainting brand consistency within McDonalds. Having said that, the employees were very friendly and helpful.

I only eat here when I am starving cause it is never my first choice. Very clean, fast and friendly service but… it’s the customers. If you like an adventure this is your place all walks of life but mainly bums and street kids. High school kids come in there and treat it like their living room yelling an screaming. I sat by an elderly lady and over heard her saying to an elderly man I’ll do anything for fifty bucks. Lost my appetite. It’s a great place to people watch but I am a little afraid something will happen to me one day in there so I tend to make my visit quick. This place and out front is always a little sketchy.

If you like to observe humanity and people watch, this place is the best. Ive been in this joint at random times all throughout the year. One time, a young intoxicated man was threatening to kill himself and they had to call the police… good times. Another time, a man was screaming to himself and pacing all around, while eating pickles from a tupper ware… This Mcdonalds is a reflection of its environment, and the sidewalks outside are caked in vomit and piss. Service is in line with other McDonalds, but this place can get packeddd!!! Staff do a good job at keeping it clean, but its not as nice as the mcdonalds on bank downtown in terms of layout or décor. The cashier staff are so friendly, and they clearly deal with a lot of crazy characters. They always smile and sometimes we chat around random things. The staff handle all the zany situations so well. I should say one thing: i dont feel safe in the corridor that links this restaurant to the market. The music playing in the washrooms is so loud, no one would hear my screams. The whole layout just seems creepy because it is narrow and you can’t see around the corner. Plus the cast of characters hanging around the bus station do not always inspire confidence.

First and foremost I must say that the employees at this location are great! they work hard, are pretty good at keeping the rougher hobos at bay and are really nice! but I have some major issues with the temperature!!! Its so cold in there there isnt any point in going inside! you feel like you’re going to get frostbite from just sitting there! I urge the owner to TURNUPTHEHEAT!!!

This location seems to get a bad reputation because of its location(the Byward Market, close to homeless shelters and places gangs, drug dealers, and prostitutes frequent). Sorry Unilocal, but that’s not the restaurant’s fault. They’re there to serve food and drinks, not police the area and help Ottawans down on their luck. I have a lot of sympathy for what the staff go through, since you can usually tell they’re trying their best given their location and clientele. During the day(7:00am to 7:00pm) this place is a normal McDonald’s with normal looking people. From 7:00pm to 7:00am, yes, the atmosphere certainly changes, as it does throughout the market, Rideau Centre, and surrounding businesses. In sum, I’ve never had a problem with the restaurant per se: they’ve always provided me with excellent customer service and the same delicious, quality food I expect from McDonald’s.

This place is absolutely disgusting. I have no idea what they can do to improve this place because the condition of the restaurant is appalling, and I don’t think that will stop any time soon. This place is generally full with homeless people any time of the night, expect to see at least one guy sleeping on a table… They also have a violence problem, whether its because of the location, or the amount of drunk people that frequent here, fist fights are also not uncommon! In fact I saw one this evening, and this was the 3rd one I’ve seen. My friend saw someone get stabbed here too. I would honestly want to strangle every person that looked at me if I worked here, so I don’t completely blame the employees for being so sour, but man are they nasty. The supervisor/manager/i dunno, is a very angry looking lady that makes me feel oh so hated every time I order. This evening/very early morning I ordered a few of the tiny cheeseburgers they make because I am quite fond of them, even from this sh*thole. I cant REALLY review Mcdonalds food because its ALL identical and likely takes very little skill to prepare. However, there were fries all over the floor and i saw someone throw a cup of pop at a sleeping homeless man, nobody cleaned it up. I also had to wait 20 minutes for my two cheeseburgers. Oh well, at least there was a fist fight to entertain me while I waited…

I quite like McDonalds, but this location is gross. I have witnessed two fist fights here on separate occasions. Do not go to this establishment.

I wish I could give this place a zero! Let me first start off by saying I don’t go to McDonald’s often but every now and then I have a craving for a breakfast sandwich from here after a night out because I like McD’s greasy breakfast sandwich more than any other fast food or coffee places. The location is very convenient on Rideau St and it’s close to my place. The place usually has a decent size line when you go. I have no idea why but the 3 times I’ve been here in the last year I always get the same person taking my order. I think he might be a manager but he’s done this to me all 3 times I’ve been here. Takes my order of a single breakfast sandwich, puts the receipt down and helps others in line after me. That’s no big deal to me but he always gets their orders before mine! It’s not a big deal if it’s a coffee or something but he gets everyones meals, some of which ordered the meal version of what I got and then when everyone else has received their full meals he then gets my sandwich. Thanks dick!

This McDonald’s is conveniently located on Rideau, across from the Rideau Centre. It is right in front of the bus stop area, so it’s perfect when you’re hungry and/or cold, waiting for the bus. Even better, it’s open 24 hours and you can even access it from George Street, as it has two entrances/exits. Because you can just walk through it from George Street, it’s often used a short cut, and there tends to be a lot of people walking in and out without buying anything. There are a lot of loiterers and it can get filled with a few sketchy individuals the later it gets, as it is a popular place to seek some kind of warm shelter from the cold and wind of Ottawa winters.
