Sometimes I forget how lucky we are to have so many stunning greenspaces in our city. This is a gem of spot located just off Prince of Wales and across from the Agriculture Museum. It’s hard to spot so drive slowly! It’s basically a wildlife park, but it has all kind of special little gardens(there’s even an adorable little duck pond!) with signs and little plaques explaining what is planted and why. It’s a wonderful place to bring the little ones to explore or to catch your breathe and enjoy a slice of nature in the city. You can brings dogs(on leash) but clean up after them! I had an near miss stepping in dog poo a few times.

This is a project that recently began by a group naturalists in the city, and while it is still in its infancy, shows a lot of promise as an urban parkland and conservation area within Ottawa. The presence of an intrepretative centre is there to help locate various wildlife and provide information, but because it is mainly volunteer-based, I found the centre empty with little help available. With that being said, there is some developing parkland and planting projects that show this could be an exciting park. Right in the centre of the city, a lot of gardeners, schools and community members are coming here in increasing numbers. And just in a short tour around the park, I saw wildlife, insects and other life here that I’ve never seen in Ottawa before. If you love wildlife and/or nature, this place is worth checking out. Even if you don’t, keep this park on your watch list for a few years down the road.
