Best club sandwich in Ottawa no matter what anybody else claims. Affordable breakfast lunch or dinner.

This is my new favourite place. I’ve walked by this diner so many times and never really give it any thought until impromptu bowling happened and we ordered some of their food. I have been back since then. Staff is always super friendly, food is good, quick, and really decently priced. Don’t get me wrong… it’s not fine dining or anything. But it’s exactly what I want in a diner.

The staff are friendly here, you can tell they Enjoy working there. The place is usually pretty full. Breakfast is served into the late afternoon which is handy if you have a hang over(let’s be honest .) The breakfast is good. Not mind blowing but good at a fair price. Portions are ok although I feel they could put a larger portion of home fries. All in all, it’s decent food for a decent honest price. Classic diner.

Breakfast special for $ 6.65 with coffee included. The diner was almost at capacity on a Sunday morning.

Fil’s is awesome. If you like a diner with a bit of history, this is your place. Had the soup du jour(great) and chicken salad sandwich(good). Nice place if you are looking for a relatively quick bite to eat.

The food was gross. I ordered Caesar Salad on the side, and the dressing was pure sugar. I spent a while throwing up from it.(I don’t handle sugar too well).

Tasty poutine. A little pricey, but good. Large portion. Almost died in the wet slippery parking lot getting in to the resto though. Salt please!

I love how late they serve breakfast, but I found it a little more than I would have paid elsewhere for more food. Very nice staff.

Best diner breakfast on this stretch of Wellington. Slightly confusing menu, soon to be reprinted. Good staff. Good food. You won’t be disappointed with their hearty all day breakfast options for really good prices.

Yes! I’m a big fan of breakfast, and love that Fil’s serves it until 3 p.m. As a late riser, this was a wonderful find when it was around 2 p.m. and I sill wanted something breakfasty. I was out with my sister and her boyfriend and we don’t always see eye-to-eye on places to eat, but I knew when we found this little diner it would be a good fit. I had the blueberry pancakes and coffee, both of which were absolutely perfect. My sister got a burger and rings, and though I didn’t try the burger, the onion rings were soooo good! Her boyfriend had their famous steak and eggs, and while he can be a tough critic, he said eh really enjoyed them. This place is pretty small, so I could see wanted to get there early on a weekend if it’s actual breakfast time. By the time we dragged ourselves there it wasn’t packed, just a few other groups. I agree with Coy about it being a kid-friendly spot. It’s very old-diner-style which is fun for kids and super casual. One more note — the service was wonderful. Our server was the sweetest — she was cool with us taking forever to pick what we wanted, and was really kind and friendly. Our food got our really fast and she brought us our bill before we asked. What more can you ask for? What a great meal :)

Fil’s was a great place to eat when I lived nearby, easy to walk to, and the wait staff were very friendly. Because we seemed to be there almost every weekend, they got to know us and our order. On a not-breakfast note: their milkshakes are deliciously thick and creamy, and often come with the flowover that didn’t fit in the glass.

I’m going to say that if you are stuck on where to go for breakfast after a certain hour, it’s alright, but not great. They’re friendlyl, and it’s typical diner. If they overflow, they’ll seat you in the bar on weekends, which is neat(it’s a pub.) The food is greasy and a bit sloppy, and nothing but breakfast is good there(although I’m sure they could pull off fries.) Maybe I’m being harsh but like another reviewer, I don’t think I’ve walked away without feeling a bit queasy before. I’ve been a handful of times.

This place is pretty popular and always packed, so my boyfriend and I decided to give it a try for the first time. They serve breakfast until 3pm everyday, so we walked in on a rainy weekend. We were seated right away, but it took awhile for us to even get menus, much less order. Finally, we ordered Eggs Benedict and Famous Steak & Eggs. It was cheap and fast, and the quality matched. The homefries were extra greasy and frankly, we didn’t feel to great afterward. Given, we did order a couple of heavy meals, but we didn’t finish them and didn’t even bother taking them home. There was only one waitress working that we saw, and she had obviously been working there for awhile, as she seemed to know the menu inside out. A few guys walked in after us and joined a group seated across the room. They were loud and obnoxious, constantly swearing, even though a family with two young children were seated next to them. It seemed like the waitress knew them, as she would talk to them in between serving tables. She warned them numerous times that their behaviour was unacceptable, but it got to the point where the family had to ask them to stop, and even the waitress clearly got frustrated. These people were never asked to leave that I know of, and it really put a huge damper on our dining experience. Additionally, we thought the place could have been a bit cleaner, and my boyfriend had to ask for another fork, as the one he was given still had a piece of food stuck to it. This may have been a one time thing, but it made a terrible first impression and we’re not too keen on going back.

As much as I tend to go to Fil’s Diner, I can’t rate it very high. I like that the breakfast is served until 3pm and that it’s relatively cheap, but you do get what you pay for. The service can be unreliable when it gets busy, which is often at noon, the hashbrowns are often terrible. I’m not even sure how they manage to get the toast salty, but it definitely is. That being said, it’s super cheap and open for most of the day. I still go back there often, but I definitely don’t rave about it.

I would concur with all the other reviews about how delicious(and cheap!) the breakfasts are at Fil’s, and how excellent the service is. My main addition, however: being attached to the pub next door, they are able to serve alcohol after 11am every day, making those weekend brunches that much tastier. Hard to beat a tasty, filling breakfast with a Ceasar for less than $ 15 after tax!

One day, my wife and I were shopping along this cool strip of Wellington and we found… a bowling alley. And next to this bowling alley was Fil’s Diner. Now, my wife and I are always on the lookout for Ottawa’s best breakfast, so we decided to give Fil’s a try. The prices are pretty good, but the options are a little slim. Not that Fil’s breakfast is problematic. I mean, I always order the same thing anyways — scrambled eggs, bacon, homefries, brown toast, jam, coffee and a juice. Pretty tasty, but hard to mess that meal up! Nonetheless, I have been to better-kept restaurants.

Fil’s is a friendly, neighbourhood diner that is a great place to bring kids. Breakfast is served late, and the lunch/dinner menu is always tasty. Inexpensive, with friendly service. Added bonus — if you feel like bowling, the same menu is offered in the attached bowling alley.

FIl’s can be hard to miss; in the westend right next to a bowling alley, it’s small but once you find it, you’ll be thankful. This is a 60’s style diner, not the typical 50’s, so the décor is a bit different. The food is good, affordable, and filling. Definitely check out their breakfast menu; thats the best time to go. Pancakes and waffles are really good; I don;‘t eat bacon but their bacon and eggs are reputed to be excellent as well.
