Best panini’s in town hands down and friendly staff. I’ve been coming here for years and when I was young it was cheaper I feel the prices have been raised 6 $ a sandwich they used to be 4.50 $ but who’s complaining with the economy today id rather support small local owned hard working businesses like this family owned one than a conglomerate. The hot plates ready to go are a good addition and when you can get them the cannoli’s are delicious. I recommend the hard crust bread for sandwiches.

I love going to Di Rienzo’s, it feels so authentic, probably because it’s the original spot. This is the kind of place that makes you picture an old Italian grandma cooking in her kitchen. There is always fresh cooked pasta dishes in Styrofoam containers that you can just grab and go. The sandwiches are always awesome, ANDTHEDESSERTS!!! Cream Filled Lobster Claws is what I believe the one I love is called. So amazing.

Di Rienzo’s has got to be one of my favorite places! The sandwiches are so good whether you opt for the pre made or get one specially made. The cannoli’s are to die for, the pastas are delicious and the service is great. The prices are also extremely reasonable so really, what more could you ask for? Totally worth stopping in and grabbing lunch.

This is the best sandwich spot in Ottawa. I can’t believe it is not at the top of this list. The line often extends around the entire small shop but they are able to get people served at a very fast pace. If you are in Ottawa you have to try this place.

Di Rienzo’s was our final stop in Canada before heading back to the USA. What a great choice. The Italian sub was $ 6CAD. It had incredible fresh baked Italian bread, super high quality cured meats, and fresh vegetables and mayo. Literally the ideal Italian sub. Eat here and be happy. There is a nice picnic table across the street that has your name all over it. This sub may be second on my list only to Santoni’s in Glyndon, MD.

I used to come here weekly after discovering this gem down from my house when I lived in Ottawa. Still unofficially and officially the best sandwich shop in Ottawa by a mile maybe ten. Back ten years ago it was $ 3.50 now it’s $ 5 a sandwich on this nice fresh Italian rolls. When I used to travel out of YOW this was a necessity for me to take one if not two sandwiches with me. This place made me take a hiatus from Subway because it was so much better! The grocery store is still old and looking run down but the sandwiches are amazing! When stopping in for lunch you would see policeman, construction workers, office people, everyone who knows food in Ottawa knows this place. The lineup could get 20 people deep easily at lunch hour. If you need a sandwich and are in Ottawa get down here. Don’t ask why just go.

The best. So busy but the staff make up for wait. Fresh and not overly priced. Hard to find, but you just have to ask, cause everyone knows where they are.

Best sandwich spot in Ottawa. $ 5 for any delicious sandwich, I look forward to days when I’m near Preston st to stop in and get a vegetarian sandwich(yep, still great) from Di Rienzo’s! They also helped me cater«study snacks» during exams at Carleton for a fair price! Nice family owned and run atmosphere! I’m happy to support these guys!

Great value. The Sandwiches are cheap and satisfying. The outdated shop could use some work. I question the fridges the meat is in, as in they seem to not work. The bread is great when fresh and very crumbly when dry. Overall I like the value the most.

$ 5 for a big italian sandwich is very reasonable. #14is tasty with cheese, vegie and my favorite italian ham prosciutto cotto(even though i like the uncooked prosciutto better). The only thing I dont like is that we have to use our dirty hands to pick the bread, it would be better if they could provide sth so that we dont have to touch the bread.

I worked in Ottawa for 2 months and this place was recommended by some local workin guys I got to know. Lucky me. The sandwiches are unbelievable! Grab your own bun, hand it to the guy behind the counter and tell him what you want. Grab a cannoli too! I travel worldwide and this is a personal top 10!

Do yourself a favour and high tail it to this little hidden treasure. Get an amazing, affordable, huge sandwich, and enjoy. P. S. I don’t even want to be friends with someone who doesn’t add the spicy eggplant — to. die. for. P. P. S. If you like it extra hot — try Alexi’s Diavolo. Named after my current beau!

Without a doubt, my favourite spot to grab a sandwich in Ottawa. Yes, it’s a grab-and-go type scenario, yes, it’s kind of off the beaten bath, but HELLYES it’s beyond worth it. It almost feels like a true hidden gem — a tiny, convenience/Italian grocery store that seems a tad on the iffy side. However, once you get a look at their delicious ingredients and bite into that sandwich, all is forgotten. The bread is fluffy and crusty at the same time, the meat is plentiful and the cheese is divine. I usually go with the turkey and harvarti and I literally have to stop myself from going too often. It’s kind of like sandwich crack. You know, if I’d ever done crack. Everyone’s already mentioned the $ 5 sandwiches, and if you think it’s too good to be true, it’s not. I can’t believe they can sell these masterpieces for $ 5. You can’t even get a small sub at Subway for that, and they can’t even compare. My favourite time to stop by? When the weather is nice and you can take a stroll around Little Italy, park yourself on a bench and watch the world go by. This is one of my favourite neighbourhoods in the city and there always seems to be something going on. So go, now. Before we all wake up from this dream that is DiRienzo’s.

Do you like sandwiches? DO you not like spending a lot of money? Do you not mind waiting in line? If you answered yes to these questions then Di Rienzo’s is a great place for you. It’s a little out of the way but it’s worth a little extra walk. The concept isn’t hard. You pick your bread out of a bin, you give it to the person behind the counter, they put toppings on and wrap it in plastic wrap, you give them a 5 dollar bill. And all of this happens within a minute or so. If you are very hungry(or need a snack on the walk back to your office) you can pay an extra dollar to get a tasty samosa. The bread is always fresh tasting, the toppings are generous, and the sandwiches are very large. You definitely get good value for money. They also have prepared pasta meals, I haven’t tried any of them, but they look good. It’s also a grocery store, they have lots of neat looking items(although the open plastic tubs of olives look pretty sketchy). Can’t comment on the prices, but they seem reasonable.

This family-run business has been around for over 20 years! This place was absolutely a go-to place for any kid 12 and under. They sold candies, lots of it. Affordable and fun items like those garbage-joke-card packs that came with gum, Fun-dips, Gold Mine or Thrills chewing gum. I can see from the other Unilocal reviews that this place is still alive and kicking with great Italian sandwiches(think big, and hearty)… Not too far on foot from Preston st., little Italy. Worth checking out if you’re in the neighbourhood and have the extra energy to walk towards a nice Italian-owed small Italian grocery/convenience store…

Di Rienzo’s is not a restaurant, but rather an Italian grocery store. They sell fresh pastries, meats and various canned goods. What they’re KNOWN for, is their 5 $ sandwiches. For 5 $, you can get a massive sandwich with a wide variety of meats, cheeses and/or vegetables. I don’t know if the bread is vegan, but I often stick with the vegetarian varieties and they are AMAZING! You can also pick up many Italian baked goods and canned groceries. I love walking around Little Italy in the summer; I will often walk to Di Rienzo’s and pick up a sandwich and an Italian soda and eat lunch in the park across the street.

From the outside DiRienzo’s looks like a hole in the wall convenience store. On the inside… it still looks like a hole in the wall convenience store! DiRienzo’s is a perfect example of never judge a book by it’s cover. It’s the reason to go check out every place hoping you come across a hidden gem. The only thing is this place is a well known gem. DiRienzo’s dishes up my favourite cold cut sandwiches in Ottawa. Even though I have a fantastic option in La Bottega less than a minute from my place I prefer DiRienzo’s by a slight hair. You get to choose your type of bread, and then choose what type of sandwich you want with what toppings. Delicious, cheap and fresh! The store also sells fresh bread, pasta, deli meat and is stocked full of pantry items.

MMMMMMMMMMMMM! I went to Di Rienzo’s for the first time yesterday. I’m not going to lie — it took me a little while to find it. I walked down Preston but didn’t know which way to turn on Beech, since it didn’t look like there would be any businesses on that street. Well, I was wrong. I asked a man for directions and he pointed me up the hill, past the bridge. It’s on the corner of Beech and Champagne. I had heard about their famous sandwiches when I was in university, and I don’t know why I had never been before, but after craving a tasty sandwich for about a week, I decided that it was a perfect time to mission to Di Rienzo’s. I knew I wanted a sandwich, so I didn’t even really bother to look around at their other grocery, deli meats and cheeses, and breads. It was pretty busy, with people constantly walking in and out. There were over 20 different sandwiches, so I stood there for awhile, not knowing what to order. The lady and man working at the front were extremely sweet and very patient with me. She asked me if I was looking for anything in particular, and since I eat absolutely everything, she told me which ones were the most popular. I ended up ordering #14, which came with soppressata Calabrese, extra-hot capicollo, prosciutto cotto, havarti, lettuce, and mayo. I had also heard a lot about their spicy eggplant, so I asked her to add some to my sandwich. I was so surprised at the size! It was $ 5 even, including the eggplant at no extra charge, and it was huge! There was only one slice of havarti, but plenty of meat and spicy eggplant. The meat wasn’t very spicy, and neither was the eggplant, which was peeled, marinated, and chopped up. The sandwich was very tasty and incredibly filling, mostly because of the large and crusty bread. It was a bit of a trek for me, but well worth it.
