Cultural Interpretation Services for Our Communities (CISOC) is a registered charitable organization that was founded in 1993 with the aim of providing the highest standards of interpretation and translation services.

With over 160 professional interpreters and translators working in more than 60 languages and dialects, our services include:

History

Established in 1993.

CISOC was founded in 1993 with the aim of providing the highest standards of interpretation and translation services.

There are many instances in which language barriers can create serious problems. Whether a client is attending an immigration hearing or an appointment with a social worker, doctor or lawyer, our interpreters can ensure clear communication between the parties.

Since 1993, our cultural interpreters have offered prompt, professional services both on-​site and by telephone. More recently, our interpretation services have expanded to include video interpreting for clients in other cities or in remote areas who still want the added benefit of being able to see the interpreter.

In 1994, at the request of Ontario’s Ministry of Citizenship, Culture and Recreation, CISOC developed the Community Interpreter Language and Interpreting Skills Assessment Tool (CILISAT) in order to evaluate the language and interpretation proficiency of people
