Aladdin Bakery

I love trying new things and when I was introduced to this little gem I was not disappointed. There is usually a line out the door and it’s cash only but those are the only downsides.

Came here after visiting a similar bakery on Walkley because our experience there exceeded all expectations. However, this location was notably worse. We ordered 3 meat and cheese pies and they simply put the cheese in an already prepared meat pie (which is fine), but then didn’t warm it up at all. We thought maybe it would be okay but it was awful because the cheese was cold, the pie wasn’t hot and the flavour wasn’t there. I later spoke to my sister who introduced me to the pies and other location and she said they would always warm it up at the other place no matter what. I think that is the better way because who likes to eat a cold meat pie?!
In addition, this place was not busy and had no line so it would have been easy to warm it up in their oven. This will turn new customers away because they won’t realize the pie should be warm. The other place had a line to the door and STILL they warmed up each pie because we would rather wait 5 extra minutes than eat a cold pie.

This place is a gem. Recently gone through a redecoration, the place looks better while the excellent food standards have been maintained. This place started as a hole in the wall as a secondary location to the Carling location of the same name. Their success I believe came largely from their originally $ 1 zaatar (flat pita bread with layer of olive oil, oregano and sesame seeds). They cook everything in a giant flame oven which means that your food will always be hot and fresh. The taste is great and fresh with the option to slightly spice it up (at least for the meat pies) with red chili powder and lemon. My personal favourite is the meat and cheese with spice.
In short, they are convenient, delicious, inexpensive and almost always great service. The prices have gone up a little but for as little as $ 5 you will be a satisfied customer.

Delicious, inexpensive and authentic. A limited menu, but very possibly the best in town at what they do. Meat, cheese pies and zaatar all made on the premises and probably within the last 30 minutes or so. Good selection of drinks too. Not really a sit down place but just great for a quick meal to go.

Everytime I come to Ottawa I have to grab some manaeesh from here! I have tried both locations and both were fantastic in terms of delivering a high quality DELICIOUS product. Their dough is so soft and their toppings are generous and tasty.
Their stores are renovated and relatively clean which was a refreshing change from most middle eastern stores.
In terms of price, super cheap and super filling.
The workers are friendly, service is quick. The only downfall is that there isnt much space to eat in so you should plan ahead for takeout.
