Been here a couple times. Not a regular. The service can be spotty. If you make eye contact you will get a response. The staff have been friendly and responsive. Food is okay for what it is. Both times I come during happy hour with a work mate. Food cones out as ordered. Is usually hot and no issues with the size. Has an old feeling to it with old pictures and interesting items in the photos. Would I eat here regularly? Probably not. But as a thing if I’m In the area sure. With friends sure if we want reasonable priced food and drinks.

I live in the neighborhood around this place. I’ve walked past many times as a kid and always thought it looked cool and liked the name. Its a good bar with friendly staff and good food. The beef dip and the roast beef sandwich are awesome, they are literally the only two things I’ve gotten and I barely ever order that anywhere else. They also have some really good local beers on tap, a nice smoking area and off sales for later on ;)

Even though it’s pretty grungy, we have had a decent meal and beer sometimes. Problem is that if you are not a regular, you will be ignored, quite literally. So of if you can go everyday you most likely will get service, otherwise be prepared to be annoyed. There are other choices nearby, choices I will make from now on. Too bad, they have good live music on weekends.

Sunday night and I wanted to try somewhere other than my usual haunts here near my apartment in North Vancouver. I happened upon«The Rusty Gull» on-line and decided to give it a try. I found the menu to be interesting, the atmosphere welcoming and would frequent the establishment if it were closer. I had the Roasted Turkey and Bacon sandwich and found it to be quick to order, just what you would expect and tasty. My only complaint regarding the bar is it seems to suffer on the weekend from what a lot of other places to: to few staff. The poor waitress who served me, who did a fantastic job, was literally running from one corner to the other of the bar in order to keep up everyone.

It’s always an experience at the Rusty Gull, sticky floors and all. It’s a convenient place to meet up with your friends and the food is surprisingly amazing(props to the Chef!). Just don’t expect your server to be… Well… More sober than you. I couldn’t believe the condition of the woman in gold who served our party of 14. She cursed at my parents, forgot orders, and slurred while tripping over chairs and bumping into tables. Meanwhile other patrons were clearly being served beyond the point of intoxication. Yet another Serving It Right violation. Essentially the key word to this place is «cheap». Food. Service. People. I wouldn’t rush back anytime soon. And hope the chefs find a new, respectable place to work in their near future.

Casual little neighbourhood bar in Lonsdale. Dead quiet on a weekend night(guess we missed their live music night). Staff was prompt and friendly — and they have Wyborowa — sweet, few places have my favourite ‘top-bottom-shelf’ vodka. I often get the ‘Dude, are you retarded?’ look when I ask for ‘Vee-bur-row-va’. Patio looks pretty nice too — should be good for some serious summer patio beers. But seriously — I have to titter a bit when I see and think of the ‘Rusty Gull’… am I the only one that thinks that it sounds like a euphemism for a complex sexual act? Oh well — maybe I’m on the right track — I always wanted to open a bar and call it the ‘Tokyo Sandblaster’ — a place to meet liberated, open-minded consenting adults or nerdy Conan O’Brien fans.

I have to say that it is the best place to go to hang out(and sometimes even dance) with friends without having to leave the North Vancouver Lower Lonsdale area. The waitress are fast, the live music is lively and highly danceable and they have some pretty original pub food. I just looove their thinly sliced and fried potatoes and spicy dip! SUNDAY night is Reggae night!

Jam packed in on a Sunday night and a totally different crowd than what I normally see in east Vancouver, or anywhere in Vancouver actually! The live band was really good. The service was slow but pleasant(it really was packed!). Lots of really drunk north shore folks. And repetitive chair stealing from our table. Not the best scene for sure.

Only 2 stars. Why? It closed early, it was deserted and expensive. Nice atmosphere though, and the patrons and barkeeps were very friendly.

This is a really friendly little neighbourhood pub with decent food, cheap drinks, and good servers. The Rusty Gull no longer has a nice view of the Burrard Inlet from it’s patio, but it’s hardly their fault that a condo tower was built in front of them. I used to go here all the time when I lived in the neighbourhood, nowadays I’ll still stop in when I’m in the area for a pint and some wings. The layout is long and narrow, with a room in front with fireplace and booths, the bar in the centre, and a larger room in the back with a stage, dance floor, and more tables. The patio is out back; bathrooms all the way downstairs. Don’t know why, but I have a fear of remotely placed washrooms. On the weekends, there’s usually a band. It’s an older, blue-collar kind of crowd in here, so the bar bands usually play old rock and roll and blues, and the older women(cougar alert!) get out there on the floor and rock it out. Your other basic diversions here are sports and keno and pulltabs. It ain’t fancy, but it’s fun.

Can’t say it’s the best pub in the world(so I won’t). Also, can’t say it’s the worst pub in the world(so…). It’s ok, if not charming… let’s say it’s a solid 3.5. They have a nice patio w/heat lamps so you don’t freeze your bum off, they have some nice canadian beers that I’d never heard of, and the patrons who were there the night my cousin and I frequented the place were pretty laid back.
