RCYC Island Clubhouse

Enjoyed the beet salad and duck confit pasta. Beautiful setting on the summer patio, overlooking the water and the city’s skyline. It’s a nice property, although a bit outdated — perhaps part of the charm.

Did you know this beautiful venue is available as a venue for weddings? I’m reviewing this as a guest at a wedding this past weekend, that was held here. You don’t have to be a member.
It was organized with 2 chartered ferries, about a 10 min ride, to get to the island. You can also take the ones members also go on if you miss them. Walking along the long dock, you’ll see the picturesque white colonial building, with a lush green grass and trees. This was where the cocktails were. It’s quite spectacular to see the entire unobstructed view of the Toronto skyline. A bar was also set up there, and the DJ was able to pipe down music from the 2^nd floor (where the reception was held) balcony.
The Reception took place on the 2^nd floor. It wasn’t obvious where the accessible entrance was, and a guest in a wheel chair got carried up the 3 flights of stairs.
The banquet hall had a cozy fit and there was only 150 people. They didn’t have a head table, and just a small round table for just the couple and a podium. The dance floor is in another room. I thought this was strange at first but it was actually quite perfect and worked out well.
Dinner was served and food was quite tasty. However, I did notice that the choice in two salads was basically the same except one had shrimp and the other one didn’t. The choice between two dessert were basically the same too. But it was still very good. Service was done well, food arrived all around the same time for a table (that’s what matters).
Bartenders were great and super friendly.
The dance floor was in a separate room, but it worked out well. The couple chose to do their first dance after dinner, and we all gathered around to watch. Then the party started right after. It was a great transition. Hardly anyone needed to go back to their seats unless they wanted some quiet time. But the huge balcony that circles the floor opened up with lots of seating and the cool summer breeze.
Although small, the dance floor was cozy enough and fit the amount of people well with lots of space to spare.
It may be a hidden gem as a wedding venue in Toronto, and has an amazing view, but has some caveats. Not all vendors want to bring their things over to the island. I know that the DJ had some hesitation to even doing this wedding because of all the equipment that needed to be brought over, but the bride begged him to (and for good reason, he was my dj at my wedding and he’s awesome). I also noticed there was no wedding cake.
Overall, a really nice venue for a small low key wedding.
