Cecile’s House is the perfect spot for a quiet getaway to Niagara-on-the-lake. A quaint 19th century house, with a French theme that makes you almost forget that you are in the heart of English Canada. Owner Chris clearly has a passion for running this B&B as everything in here was spotless, organized, and absolutely beautiful. Large paintings of French royalty, old busts, and themed rooms make this one of the most beautiful houses I have ever been in. We spent a single night in the French room recently and we were not disappointed. The house is located just off Queen St. making it a short walk/drive to all the nearby attractions. The house is so serene, perfect for a quiet getaway to help you relax and unwind. We woke up to a cornucopia of delicious baked goods(scones, croissants, turnovers, clafoutis etc). It was evident that Chris was a trained chef, everything was absolutely delicious, especially the croissant which was easily the best I have ever had. I for one definitely look forward to visiting Chris at Cecile’s House in the very near future. If you are looking for an amazing Niagara getaway, this is the place for you!

Here’s a riddle: What is a B&B without the second B? Answer: A hotel I LOVE B&Bs. My bf had never been to one and I had to convince him that it would be a fantastic idea to stay at a B&B. I wanted to make it the perfect experience for him so I spent days reading Tripadvisor and Unilocal reviews about B&Bs in NOTL. After looking at pictures of the accommodations and food, and factoring in pricing, I decided to book two nights in the Master’s Suite at Cecile’s House. For the week leading up to our trip, I fantasized about the amazing breakfasts we were going to eat(Chris was a chef, after all). Our flight was delayed and I called Chris to let him know that we would be late. When we arrived, he told us that unfortunately, he had a little accident and hurt his leg and back. I could tell he was not in great condition and he sadly informed us that he could not make us breakfast the next day. He suggested that we eat at the golf course nearby. The restaurant at the golf course had a lovely view of the course and Lake Ontario but the food was similar to what you can get at IHop or Denny’s. And since it was NOTL(aka, overpriced town), a mediocre breakfast for 2 cost about $ 30. I felt terrible for Chris for being hurt but I felt sad for us as well. This was NOT what I had signed up for. Anyway, I guess I was hopeful when he told me «I don’t think I can make breakfast for you tomorrow» the first night. Somehow I thought that meant maybe he could make breakfast for us the second morning? I was wrong and I didn’t want to ask too much since he was not feeling well. In the end, we negotiated a $ 45 per night discount off the rate to make up for the lack of breakfast. Chris said that this was the first time in the 12 years that he has operated the B&B that he had to send guests out to eat and felt terrible. I could tell that he was sincerely sorry about it and I kind of feel bad writing a 3* review but I’m just being honest about my own experience. What would have been better than sending us to the golf course restaurant to eat was to work with another well-regarded B&B to see if they can make a couple of extra portions for us. I think I would’ve been satisfied with that. Or at the very least, he should’ve called us after the accident, as soon as possible, to let us know the situation so I could try to make alternative accommodations with the second B(since I had the courtesy to call him with updates about our trip). I still love B&Bs and I know my bf is easygoing but I’m not sure if I can bring up the idea of staying at a B&B again to him.
