We came to The Pillar and Post for a short get-away following our wedding, and while we were there we had dinner at The Cannery. Both nights our meals were absolutely delicious. Each night we had a complimentary Amuse-bouche, both of which were delicious. I enjoyed the Loaded Beef Tenderloin the first night, and Cajun Strip Loin the second while my wife had the Prime Rib and Lamb Shank. The service was very good(I think it was probably better the second night) but the staff didn’t seem quite as friendly as they could have. The prices weren’t unreasonable, especially considering it was a treat for us, and both nights our«temptation» package included a $ 50 meal credit. The first night the prices weren’t displayed on the menu which meant that we were in for a little surprise at the end of the meal, but again it wasn’t so bad that we felt we were breaking the bank(but make no mistake, it was almost $ 150 all in).

Great food and great service. We had a private function so the private room was great and the staff were truly attentive. Crab cakes were good and I had the prime rib which was delicious. If staying at the Pillar and Post, you should definitely try out this adjoining restaurant.

We came to celebrate a birthday, the waiting time was longer than you would expect. We ordered the crab cakes as a starter. It was good but nothing special. Afterwards, we ordered the salmon and the surf & turf. The salmon was amazing! I would suggest ordering it. The surf & turf was also really good(the steak especially), however the lobster was only alright. Definitely suggest either the salmon or a steak here. Profiteroles were for dessert and they were enjoyable.

We went to the Cannery to celebrate a 65th birthday. Overall, we had a good experience. The service was pleasant and the food was well made. This wasn’t my greatest fine dining experience but it was certainly above average and seemed better than most of the Unilocal reviews for the Cannery to date. We did show up at 5PM when the place was empty and our dishes came in a normal amount of time. I write this as some of the reviews note very slow service and I do not know if they have improved serving tables promptly when the restaurant is filled. We ordered the taster platter to start. Shrimp, pistachio goat cheese soufflé with a peach chutney and a crab cake. The shrimp were served cool and were quite large. I was not particularly excited about the soufflé and it was adequate. I have never found an incredible crab cake and the one served was one of the better ones I have had. For the main I had the prime rib, Yorkshire pudding, local steamed vegetables and I substituted whipped gold potatoes for a baked potato. I ordered the prime rib medium rare and it came more on of the rare side. Still, it was a lovely piece of meat with lots of flavour. The Yorkshire pudding was tasty. The local asparagus and other mystery vegetables were perfectly cooked. And the whipped potatoes were very nice and perfect with the jus. The person celebrating a birthday has a gluten allergy. The restaurant said that they could try to bake a gluten free cake but this clearly was not something they do regularly and they warned it could be quite expensive. They were perfectly fine with us bringing in a gluten free cake from another bakery at no charge. It turned out the summer heat on the way to the restaurant had damaged the icing and the kitchen was kind enough to attempt to fix up the presentation of the cake. So, while this was not the most interesting or most delicious fine dining experience, we had a very pleasant evening and were satisfied when we left.

Stayed here for a course for just under a week and ate here every day. The food is decent but the service was crappy and slow. I guess because we had prepaid. For example — it took 2 hours to serve us dinner! I would expect this for something social where you are ordering from a menu but think it’s kind of crazy for when everyone is being served the exact same thing and there are no orders being taken. Also, one evening, we were half an hour late and the server refused to give us the salad course and claimed that there was no more. About 15mins later, we had someone else join our table, she asked another server who was more than happy to bring her a salad. I thought it was finished? Anyway, when you are staying somewhere as nice as Niagara-on-the-Lake where the options are plentiful, I recommend you venture out of the hotel and try something where the food is great and service is amazing. Even the bar at the hotel had better service and a basic menu.

The service was wonderful during our visit. The food wasn’t. I would compare the quality to an Outback Steakhouse. If you’re only concerned with service and ambiance then this is your place. If you want exceptional food, look elsewhere.

We stayed at the Pillar and Post for a weekend getaway and enjoyed a dinner that was included in our meal plan. The food was absolutely fantastic! The meal started with a refreshing amuse bouche of arugula, raspberry, cheese and walnuts. We each had the seafood sampler appetizer that truly was a meal in itself. It included a crab cake, lobster soufflé and 2 jumbo prawns with seafood sauce. Wonderful! I had the prime rib with lobster mashed potatoes and roasted vegetables. My husband had bacon wrapped tenderloin, lobster mashed potatoes and vegetables. The portions were huge, so we ended up packing up our leftovers and our desserts for later. Service was friendly, and ambiance relaxed. Would recommend!

The food was good but the service was not, the wait staff refused to divide our check up into separate checks regardless of the fact we were a large group.
