Sandstone Grillhouse

My girlfriend and I opted to come here instead of the Ruth’s Chris that we had a $ 70 discount voucher for. Sandstone Grillhouse blew us away in terms of quality, price, and serving size. The atmosphere was quite pleasant, appropriately lighted, and the waitstaff were incredibly friendly.
We ordered the soup of the day ($ 7), the fish and chips (came with fries, $ 17), and an 8 oz. filet mignon (came with two sides, «potatoes» which were incredibly thick cut slices of potatoes that were then baked and the seasonal vegetables, $ 41). We also ordered two drinks ($ 6 each), and got a chocolate swirl cheesecake dessert ($ 5).
The soup was the potato corn chowder. If anything, it was a little light in volume (surprising compared to the serving sizes of everything else), but it left us hungry and wanting more, which is a pleasant thing in itself. The soup was spiced just appropriately and had a wondrous blend of ingredients. I would love to make this soup at home.
The fish certainly are as large as the photos here show — two whole filets! It was delicious, tasted fresh, and the house-​prepared tartar sauce rivals Washington state’s (I grew up on the pacific coast).
The filet mignon was arguably the best steak I recall having. I usually splurge once or twice a year and get a filet dining out, so that’s a pretty substantial claim. They seasoned it just perfectly, absolutely no need for any kind of steak sauce (thank god). While being a thick cut, the filet was also cooked to perfection — it was seared on the outside and a glorious, warm, juicy and even pinkish red throughout the inside, just as ordered (medium). Most knock-​off steak places can’t cook a steak evenly if they wanted to, but this place nailed it. I would not think twice about coming back and ordering another filet from them. In fact, I doubt I’d ever get anything else as my entrée it was so good!
The drinks were pleasant and well-​mixed cocktails. Certainly not the highlight of the night, but a splurge we were pleased with and not disappointed in.
Finally, the dessert was (fortunately?) the least pleasing of the entire meal. My girlfriend and I enjoy cheesecake, but this one was the special of the day (first big warning sign) and tasted a bit chalky and in want of some more cheese.
Barry (our waiter) was incredibly accommodating, never left a water glass less than half full (a true measure of a restaurant’s quality in my opinion), and ultimately gave us the splurge of a dinner we were looking for.
All in all, though, the «splurge» came out at a quite reasonable $ 100 including tip, Canadian dollars. With the exchange rate, that came out to be a very impressive dinner for $ 35 each. Wondrous, would not hesitate to come back.

The steaks are THE BEST you will get in Niagara Falls, better than Ruth’s Chris or anywhere in the fallsview. The feel of the place is very homey and inviting, a bit underwhelming for fine dining but not cheap-​looking. Did I mention how perfect the steaks were? The service was some of the best I’ve ever seen, extremely knowledgeable about the food and wine and prompt and courteous. The owner personally comes around table to table to ask how everybody’s food is.
The only weak point was the lobster, I felt it was so-​so, my wife who grew up in coastal Sweden was disappointed. Obviously this is a steakhouse far far away from the ocean so this is to be expected, and the times we’ve been since, we’ve steered clear of it.
The gniocchi was okay but I asked for a lot of mods so its my own fault if it was a little unusual tasting. Avoid substitutions, they know what theyre doing around here.
Get the steak. GET THE STEAK. You will not regret this. It’s perfect.
At the end of the day, I’m a steak guy and the steaks here are nothing short of perfection. Great wine list and great people equal a great experience, definitely worth the price tag and definitely a place you’ll come back to again and again.

We loved Sandstone! We made a reservation and our evening started off well when we sat at a corner table with a comfy oversized chair. I ordered the Greek Salad with a delicious dressing and feta. My husband ordered the French onion soup that was oozing with cheese. We both ordered the 8 oz. Filet with bacon and peppercorn sauce. This was probably one of the best steaks I have ever had! It was cooked perfectly and so tender. We didn’t have room for dessert, but the next time we visit the falls we will be sure to try the cheesecake which looked delicious!

Very nice dinner — delicious and perfectly braised lamb shank special — very tender and rib eye and excellent service ! Would have liked to see a bit more creative desserts but a lovely dinner out.

This restaurant should be named Pearlstone, not Sandstone, because its an amazing pearl!
The Artichoke-​Spinach dip was a good starter, the Sandstone Cocktail went great with the Mediterranean Chicken, and the Atlantic Baked Salmon. If you are a veggie lover you should order the Greek Salad with Black Olives and Feta Cheese. Price was a bit high, but that was the only flaw. Service was great, and the place is within walking distance of the major attractions and most hotels. Overall, a great place to eat, very romantic.

My family and I decided to try this restaurant while we were in the area. The service was excellent and the food was great. The beet salad was fresh and satifying. It’s also nice to order a steak and have it cooked properly the first time around. They also provided an endless supply of fresh bread.
Overall a great restaurant and a wonderful experience.

A 5 minute walk away from Clifton Hills’ attractions, this restaurant is a great place to go for a fancier dinner to end the night. The portion sizes were fair, the food was great, and the prices were reasonable. Service was also very friendly and the overall ambiance of the restaurant was relaxing.
The tomato basil soup was a little too salty for my likings though.

Last night, my fiancé planned a surprise Niagara Falls trip to see the Winter Festival of Lights and this restaurant was on the itinerary. It was definitely a treat.
The ambience resembles the typical steakhouse, low light, white table cloths and soft acoustic jazz music. Other reviews have said the deco was dated, but if you step into a Mortons or a Captial Grille that is what you expect.
The service was phenomenal — if you want A-​class treatment, look no further. Jay was our server and he was fantastic. He was attentive: our glasses stayed topped up, when we finished one course we got the next (perfectly timed) and he brought out extra cutlery so we could share the starters and dessert without us asking. Don (one of the managers?) stopped by our table twice to make sure everything was okay, a great touch. It definitely feels like a high class family run restaurant.
The food was great:
We started with the baked almond crusted Brie starter with a delicious tasting ginger apricot chutney. The Brie just melted in my mouth, and the chutney was so refreshing. We then shared a Greek salad (based on Unilocal reviews), and it was so good. The dressing was a Dijon balsamic dressing, sweet and tangy. It was packed with tomatoes, cucumbers, olives and two triangles of feta. Yum.
For our mains, I got the 12oz ribeye cooked chicago-​rare with mashed potatoes and a vegetable medley (bok-​choy, red peppers, zucchini). The steak was delicious, cooked perfectly, charred on the outside and rare on the inside. Most restaurants can’t get this right, it’s usually overlooked and cold, but they did. The mashed potatoes were a little salty (but that’s my only complaint). The rest of the dish was delicious. My fiancé got the salmon with lobster cream sauce, the sauce was so tasty. It came over rice and vegetables. He liked it a lot.
We shared a NY style cheesecake for dessert, it was drizzled with a chocolate sauce and garnished with a strawberry reduction. A great way to end the dinner. Wish they had the crème brûlée, but the cheesecake was very good.
Overall, this was a great experience. Make reservations and come hungry. Definitely worth the further walk.

I couldn’t cook a better steak at my house– either in the stove or on the grill.
We started off with their Hand Breaded Calamari, then had small side salads then our steaks. Our meals were delicious…

Quite a walk from the falls, but worth every step.
Checked this place out in Unilocal which was very fortunate because we almost fell into the tourist trap of Hard Rock or Rainforest Café. The reviews of those restaurants made us to decide to leave it up to Unilocal.The food was the best I’ve had in Canada. I had a Greek salad with the addition of a shrimp skewer. Although only four shrimp to a skewer, they were excellent. My wife had a burger which she gave a big thumbs up to, although the French fries were a bit soggy. The garlic bread which comes with the meal was wonderful. The local draft beer was so fantastic we had two. The service was excellent and helpful in getting me connected to their internet. If you are ever in the area, this is the place to eat. Maria was our waitress and she deserves kudos for her friendly prompt service and accepting the Unilocal coupon without question.

Just around the corner from Country Inn And Suites, Sandstone Grill provides a quiet dining experience apart from the usual Niagara bustle. Our waitress was genuinely friendly and helpful with all our needs.
From the varied menu, we chose the fish and chips and a beet salad topped with tender, rare grilled steak. Both plates were very good, as were the house Pinot & Chardonnay.
All in all, a pleasant dining experience.

We were staying at the Country Inn and decided to give this place a try. A little over the steep side but food was decent. We ordered the garlic cheese bread which was pretty tasty. We both had the special soup that they had for that day, which was the potato bacon soup. The soup was not as smooth and hot as I was hoping for. It was cream based and was kinda grainy and I couldn’t taste the bacon.
For the entrée, the hubby got steak and lobster and I had their special atlantic salmon. Steak was kinda over cooked and it was flavorless, but the lobster was a killer. Their salmon was cooked right because the meat just fell right off of the skin. It was drizzled with a creamy sauce, pretty good. I didn’t care for the rice that came with it, it was hard and not fluffy =(the mixed veggies that came with both dishes only consisted of steamed squash and zucchini and no broc or carrots.
The next day we ordered some burgers to go and it was ok, you can’t really mess up a burger. Was kinda disappointed that my fries were soggy. They need to poke holes in the container boxes to help ventilate the steam. I wish we could stay longer, I wanted to try their other dishes.

We wanted to try different places while in the area, myself and my husband especially love a good steak. This place got good reviews so we tried it out. Let me say… It met all of our expectations and more!!! Our server was very nice and accommodating, the owner came over and talked to us a couple times, very friendly and personable… But their food blows all of that away. We both got filet mignon with different sides, we shared a salad and had dessert. That steak was by far the best steak I have ever had, it cut like butter, was so juicy and flavorful!!! If you want a good steak this is the place to be!

The place nice and the staff is polite and informed. We had a new waitress and she made a few forgivable mistakes. The food is meh, nothing to brag about. I wouldnt come back, the food is not very good. Unilocalers fooled me on this one. This place is boring.

This was our first time in Niagara Falls, we immediately checked Unilocal for a good restaurant, Sandstone got good reviews so we decided to go there for dinner. Cliff Hill was so amazing, we were enjoying the sight and sound of this quaint town, we did not realize the restaurant was a long walk from our hotel. By the time we got there it was 825pm and we were famished.
My husband ordered a beer, he waited a long time for it, the keg had to be emptied. My Margarita was so so, I realized this was not SoCal where an authentic Margarita can be had almost anywhere.
French onion soup was excellent, the bread was delicious, we could not wait for the steak.
The New York steak was so tender and flavorful, it was marinated and grilled to perfection.
the shrimp skewer was so mouth watering. It was pricey but worth it, count on spending about $ 45 pp.
I would have rated this 5 stars except for the fact that service was slow, we told the waiter we needed to get out in 1 hr 15 min, the fireworks started at 10pm, there was nothing the waiter could do, it was painful when I realized I had missed the fireworks when we left the restaurant at 10pm.
I would definitely come back when I visit Niagara Falls again, in the mean time, I will let my friends know about this Grillhouse but I would warn them to allow at least 2 hours to enjoy the the dinner.

Très bon restaurant tranquille avec un service impeccable. La nourriture était très bonne et le prix était respectable. Le propriétaire du restaurant et le serveur étaient très sympathique. Je le recommande et j’y retournerai sans aucun doute.

After have had a few disappointing dining experiences in Camada and I was beginning to think the food was all just yucky. But tonight’s meal was very good. The garlic herb bread was very good. We did not order appetizers. For my entrée I had Grillef Salmon with lobster cream sauce. I substituted mashed potatoes for rice. It fake with mixed veggies. The food was very tasty. The salmon was fresh and grilled nicely. The sauce was ok. I didn’t taste the lobster flavor though. The mashed potatoes were good and creamy. I did like the veggies but I thought they needed just a touch of salt (which I did sprinkled on everything). The waiter was very nice and attentive. My father ordered the rib eye which he enjoyed. My daughter for the chicken tenders which were tasty and made from real chicken. If we lived in the area we would frequent the restaurant and we will be back if we visit again.

We went here on a whim after a day of wineries, the butterfly gardens and the botanical gardens. One of the best restaurants I have ever eaten at. I ordered the Prix fix menu and had crab cakes which were very good, French onion soup– delicious, NY strip steak– very good, cheesecake– lovely. My husband had the seafood linguine, now this was the jewel in the evening. The lobster cream sauce was to die for! It was seriously sex on a plate. The staff were superb, attentive and friendly. The price for the quality and quantity of food was amazing. I wish I lived closer, I’d eat here regularly.

I really couldn’t find any real flaws with this business… Well it was my first time here after arriving at Niagara Falls for the first time in my life. We came in with low expectation after hearing about how touristy restaurants could be here.
The grilled Atlantic salmon here was the best I’ve ever had anywhere else yet so far. It was served with lobster sauce, veggies and rice.
Steak here, like others have mentioned, is a must try, even for a non steak eater like me, it was very delicious.
Our waitress was very patient and checked on us every once in a while.
Being said, I’m glad I found this place amidst such a tourist place.

This was our first time at Sandstone. We had tried to get into another restaurant but they were full and recommended we try this one.
Our first impression was that this was a very old fashioned restaurant and the décor was out of the 70s.
Our waitress was very friendly and enthusiastic. Service was very fast.
We each ordered a cocktail and both were very good and fairly inexpensive ($ 6 a piece).
For our entrées, we each ordered an 8oz striploin Chicago style. The meals came with vegetables (zucchini, carrot and broccoli) and turned red-​skinned potatoes. The vegetables were just okay, but could have been improved with some butter and seasoning and the same could be said of the potatoes. The steaks were just perfect. My husband ordered blue rare and I ordered medium-​rare and they couldn’t have been cooked any better. We were both very happy with them.
We felt the prices for the food were very high for what we received. If it hadn’t been for the wonderful steaks, we would’ve been really disappointed.
The wine prices were reasonable, although the wine list was a little limited.
I think this would be a great place to visit with your grandparents, but I wouldn’t recommend it for a date night.
